What happens when we STOP overlooking the person who ALREADY knows the way? Five (5) years ago we began to ask ourselves this question: We realized that most leadership programs spend more funds, and time to reach fewer people. Life Bloom Services International (LBSI) was on that path for many years before then. The impact of Covid 19 pandemic and the shrinking funding support for non profits on community transformation initiatives needed to shift, to focus more on sustainable locally driven models, which only the communities know how best to design: with support. We have trained and dispatched 62 Para Counsellors who offer psychological first aid to community members experiencing distress and trauma, 12 Para Legal experts who unpack the basic laws for communities and create awareness on referral pathways, Mentors who support their peers navigate threatening seasons and rise above with more self power. Since then, Life Bloom multiplies community leadership. Transformation is evident. We don’t graduate leaders. We sustainably multiply them. The communities identify and forward their "ready" leaders for our 8 months training/mentorship program. In the on going cycle, 6 Professional Mentors/Coaches are mentoring 16 Grassroot leaders who in turn are mentoring 225 other grassroot leaders in their circles. No extra Budget! The 2nd Cohort of 16 grassroot leaders will be launched in January 2027. Applications and assessment (interviews) are underway. Already 7 grassroot women leaders qualify. It will cost us $450 for each of the 16 Grassroot (Community) Leaders for the 8 months project as they are mentored on how to mentor 15 mentees each. A monitoring and evaluation plan is enshrined in the project to measure progress, improve the program and lift best practices for sharing and improving on next cycle. Each participant has made a commitment to contribute $100 to their program, as Life Bloom raises funds to cover the extra $350 per person. An external evaluator remarked: “The Program is Mentorship-driven, adaptive model is not only replicable but offers a blueprint for organizations seeking sustainable change.”  

Every gift of $10 helps one child receive therapy. Children in Kenya, just like other parts of the world, experience some aspects of life that cause trauma. Very often trauma experienced stems from separation/divorce, abandonment, sickness, violence and death in the family. The growing number of children experiencing violations of various forms, especially sexual exploitation, child labor, early marriages, threats of or actual female genital cut are left with marks that turn around their lives. The good part is that there is a growing number of children stepping forward seeking for help. Unfortunately, some of the children remain silent: locked up in a world that shut down for them with the experience. They need to be supported to live through the emotions, unlock the gates to their inner beauty in-order to thrive now and into their future. Counselling is not commonly programmed for children in our community, thus not accessible to majority of the children, especially those living in very vulnerable circumstances. Life Bloom celebrates 20 years (2004-24) of supporting more than 13,800 children, girls, women and men through a dynamic holistic approach (www.lifebloomservices.org). Among the GIFTS planned for our children providing professional counselling for 1000 needing children in the year 2024, children who have not experienced the gift of counselling, yet wallow in psychological stuck-ness. Life Bloom has operated with a pool of qualified counsellors ready and already holding up this project. Child Centered Art and Play Therapy approaches are used. Continued counsellor related up-skilling, de briefing and counsellor supervision is part of the planned. What remains is for some of the children to receive sponsorship for this life -changing transformative healing journey.
