With the rise of suicides, bullying, addiction, abuse and so many other challenges, The Scars Foundation is dedicated to help provide resources, tools, educate and empower people on a global level that struggle with these burdens.

Dar-us-Sakina is a safe space for people of all abilities and their caregivers.  We inspire the community to abandon stigmas and embrace individuals with disabilities with empathy and respect.  Together, we are better!

We are dedicated to providing inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities, while empowering the affected and their caregivers with social support and access to local resources.  We envision a Muslim community where individuals with disabilities are fully accepted and included, and both they and their caregivers have adequate access to support.

Dar-us-Sakina offers its services to all special needs individuals and their caregivers within the Houston community, but reserves its Zakat fund for Muslim families who are in financial need or crisis. Our mission is achieved through three key service areas: Education, Support, and Community Awareness.

Education:

Special Needs Weekend Islamic School Programs: At four locations across Houston, children with special needs come weekly to the masjid to learn about their faith using an adapted curriculum and to be included in the community.

Teen Adult Program (TAP): This program helps individuals with special needs take the first step to adulthood by teaching them independent life skills in a supportive social environment.

Support:

Caregiver Support Groups: This allows mothers, fathers, and siblings of individuals with special needs to connect with others with similar life circumstances.

Events: From inclusive family events that make all accommodations to caregiver training events, Dar-us-Sakina engages the local special needs population on a monthly basis.

Zakat Services: For special needs families in crisis, we are committed to providing comprehensive support through our Zakat Fund, including funding of emergency respite care, counseling, necessary evaluations, advocacy and durable medical equipment.

Community Awareness:

Youth Inclusion Training: We visit local Islamic schools, masaajid, and Scouts to train typical youth on accepting and including their brothers and sisters with disabilities.

Community Education: We conduct awareness events and workshops to educate the general community on disability awareness and early childhood intervention.

Sakina Internship: This is a one year commitment for college age students who dedicate one day of the week serving individuals with special needs while learning about related topics.

Volunteer Enrichment Program: This is a volunteer buddy program for High School students.

The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies supports psychedelic and cannabis research, education and policy reform.

Founded in 1986, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) is a visionary 501(c)(3) non-profit organization ushering the safe and ethical use of psychedelics as tools for healing and growth on individual, familial, societal, and planetary levels.

MAPS’ top priority is ethically introducing global access to MDMA-assisted therapy as a treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) through regulatory approvals and training certification for therapy providers, as well as public education, policy reform, and building community support networks.

How Your Donation Will Help

While the MDMA drug development program is the main priority of MAPS, the organization's programs include research into other psychedelic compounds and provide critical resources for researchers around the world interested in studying psychedelics. These resources include assistance with protocol development and regulatory guidance, in addition to providing study drug and training for investigators. As part of its commitment to open science and open praxis, MAPS publishes its research protocols, treatment manual for MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD, published articles, and investigator's brochure on its website for free download, and actively collaborates with third-party researchers and institutions. Researchers and institutions around the world are building on the body of research that MAPS has produced.

MAPS operates a global network of intersectional education and research programs focused on the careful study of the risks and benefits of psychedelics. The education programs include: harm reduction and peer support through the Zendo Project; policy and advocacy efforts focused on community organizing and reducing barriers to research; a conflict resolution initiative for peace-building; and an active fiscal sponsorship program for fledgling mission-aligned organizations. MAPS also produces myriad educational materials, training workshops, and conferences, both physical and virtual. MAPS builds its global community of support through: outreach at events worldwide; a robust social media presence; and interviews and publications in various global media outlets. All of this work is supported by MAPS’ general operating fund. 

MAPS aims to transcend geopolitical and social boundaries and intentionally cultivates interactions with thought leaders in a broad range of interest areas and outlets that demonstrate the broad applications of the healing potential of psychedelics, and to proactively build trust and common ground with those most likely to have resistance to psychedelics.  

A Tipping Point for Psychedelic Medicine

MDMA-assisted therapy is poised to be a true breakthrough for psychedelic medicine and is the first psychedelic therapy to enter a Phase 3 clinical trial. This trial recently cleared a critical interim evaluation, with analysis confirming a 90% or greater likelihood that the final results will show significant effectiveness in treating PTSD. Achieving FDA approval for this treatment could be the tipping point to shifting psychedelics into the medical mainstream. This shift has the potential to unlock previously unavailable resources for the investigation of psychedelic-assisted treatments applied to our most critical mental health challenges: trauma, depression, addiction, anxiety, and more.

When administered in a clinical setting with trained therapy providers, MDMA has proven to be a powerful adjunct to therapy, which assists individuals in processing traumatic experiences in a deep and profound manner, leading to the alleviation of suffering. Clinical research indicates that MDMA may catalyze therapeutic processing by allowing participants to stay emotionally engaged when revisiting traumatic experiences, without feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or other painful emotions.

FDA approval of MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD could help millions of people who are suffering from trauma. A long-term follow-up study published in June 2020 demonstrated that 67% of the study volunteers (N=91) who had PTSD for an average duration of 17.8 years were still in remission and no longer qualified for a PTSD diagnosis at least 12-months following the completion of their treatment. 

While MAPS is the engine that powers this research, passionate supporters are the fuel that feeds our fire. We are inspired to press on towards the finish line of this 35-year marathon.

Thank you for taking a moment to connect with our mission. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to share our incredible journey with you—a journey that began with a genuine concern for our beloved elderly Asian American community. In the midst of the challenging times brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, we witnessed the hardships faced by our elders, from food insecurity to intense loneliness and social isolation. The urgency to act became even more apparent when we learned that a staggering 28% of Asian American older adults in NYC live in poverty, surpassing the citywide average of 16%. It is crucial to understand that the pervasive "model minority" myth masks the very real challenges this community endures. This stereotype not only oversimplifies the diverse experiences within our community but also perpetuates harmful narratives, leaving many elders without the vital resources they need and leading to isolation and despair.

It is in these times that Heart of Dinner was born—a heartfelt response to nurture those who remind us of our own grandparents. We felt a deep calling to reassure our Asian American elders that they are cherished, seen, and valued beyond measure. For many of us, especially those with immigrant heritage, food holds a significance that goes far beyond sustenance. It is a profound gesture overflowing with love, respect, and cultural richness.

Our journey began in a humble 350 square-foot apartment on the cusp of Chinatown and the Lower East Side. We transformed our home into a sanctuary of cultural resonance and dignified care for our Elders. Starting with homemade meals that brought back memories of comforting family dishes that our own grandparents loved to eat, paired with handwritten notes of love and joy on each to-go container. We soon expanded to providing comprehensive care packages.

These care packages are more than just nutrients, they are filled with culturally thoughtful items like bok choy, bags of rice, and mung beans. And to add more layers of personal touch, we build care packages using bags that are uniquely hand-illustrated and attached with handwritten notes in our beneficiaries’ native languages to evoke a sense of home and connection. We organize extraordinary volunteers, worldwide, to contribute their heartfelt notes and bags!

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our community. Heart of Dinner's champions, donors, partners, dedicated team, extraordinary volunteers, and collaborators have been instrumental in our journey. We are incredibly honored to share that our journey navigating from a pop-up relief efforts initiative to a budding 501c3 public charity has been a labor of love, intention, and meticulous care. Marshall ROC -  Restoring Our Community  is a coalition of community organizations, funders, and government agencies bound together by the common interest: Helping our neighbors, particularly those who are most in need, recover from the Devastating Marshall Fire & Windstorms which destroyed over 1000K homes.  

Marshall ROC is led by its members, who are a dedicated community of volunteers and organizations, in collaboration with government representatives. Many organizations in the surrounding communities offered their help after the Marshall Fire. Coordinating these efforts is challenging, but important. Marshall ROC is structured as a Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG), which is a nationally recognized, tried-and-true method for coordinating limited money, muscle, and materials among multiple organizations, on behalf of individuals and communities impacted by disaster. The Marshall ROC Mission is to support and empower individuals and households affected by the Marshall Fire and windstorm to lead their own recoveries by identifying needs and coordinating assistance on their behalf

The mission of Marshall ROC is to support and empower individuals and households affected by the Marshall Fire and windstorm to lead their own recoveries by identifying needs and coordinating assistance on their behalf. Marshall ROC is a collaborative coalition of existing agencies and all Marshall ROC related services will be provided without regard to race, creed, color, gender, disability, religious or political affiliation, documentation status, or sexual orientation. 

Disasters are, by their nature, overwhelming. If it wasn’t overwhelming, we’d call it an “inconvenience,” not a “disaster.” The Marshall Fire and Windstorm is overwhelming. Our neighbors lost hundreds of millions of dollars worth of property and belongings. So many individuals and organizations have rallied to help and it is inspiring to see how engaged and supportive the communities responding to this disaster have been. However, it is now clear the need is greater than the available resources. Marshall ROC and its members will work to help as many people as possible, while managing community expectations.
One of the most important efforts of Marshall ROC is the launch and opening of the Marshall Fire Recovery Center, which is a centralized Louisville, CO location dedicated to expediting the access and delivery of disaster related support, services and resources to fire survivors in Superior, Louisville and Unincorporated Boulder County as they navigate the complexity of their recovery. The Marshall Fire Recovery Center will house the Marshall ROC office and provide spaces for mental health, rebuilding and technical programs, and the network of professionals who are all helping to support the impacted community as well as to facilitate coordination and collaboration among local, national and governmental organizations. The Navigating Disaster for Boulder County program, operated by Lutheran Family Services – Rocky Mountains, will also be located at the Center. 
The Marshall ROC Marshall Fire Recovery Center is a testament to the power of community and our coalition of organizations. We / Marshall ROC felt it was important the financing of this Marshall Fire Recovery Center effort should be separate from donations previously collected so as to not detract from funds raised for the direct support of fire families, and we’re exceedingly grateful to the many organizations who have contributed so far to  help us launch the Recovery Center and effort:

The arts can cultivate students' creativity, a survival skill in this Artificial Intelligence age, and can grow mutual empathy, essential for a "more perfect union." 

We employ the power of the arts for a dual intervention. Firstly, students' creative development through our school art program, the Arts Olympiad, followed by their empathic development at the World Children's Festival on the National Mall across the U.S. Capitol. 

The Arts Olympiad 
Objective: To transform children's self-identity through the arts for higher-order thinking and enhanced self-worth that teaches students to foster their creativity and engage in physical activity to counter the epidemic of declining creativity and rising obesity. 

The Arts Olympiad introduces students to the "Artist-Athlete Ideal" of the creative mind and a healthy body (mente sana in corpo sano). The structured lesson plans motivate students to think of themselves and others not as techies, nerds, jocks, or artsy but as artist-athletes. The coalescing of artistic and athletic mindsets sprouts outside-the-box thinking and instills healthy lifestyles. 

The Arts Olympiad requires students to visualize and depict themselves as artist-athletes in their paintings, drawings, or digital art, which solidifies their revised self-image as artist-athletes. When the number of artist-athletes grows, the school becomes a more creative, healthy, and forward-looking community.

The World Children's Festival
Objective: To develop mutual empathy with three days of workshops, activities, and training at the National Mall across the U.S. Capitol.

The Arts Olympiad winners from the participating U.S. school districts and countries convene at their World Children's Festival (WCF) to celebrate Creativity, Diversity, and Unity.  

The WCF workshops, training, and activities are designed to provide a transformative experience that infuses children's creativity with empathy, inspiring them to become "creative-empaths" who can work together to make the world a better place.

To be a creative-empath requires a quality of character that can help overcome adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and disrupt the intergenerational transmission of trauma and hatred that seeps into the young, like physical traits or melanin. The WCF is not only fun and entertainment but an effective intervention that makes it unlike any other children's festival, nationally or globally.

Objective: Creative and empathic development of young readers.

Published ad-free since 1998, ChildArt is a unique magazine that focuses on a single theme for each issue. Recent themes include Creativity, Human Security, Young Leaders, The Moral of Your Story, The Power of Words, Mindfulness, and Metaverse.

ICAF's Impact
Over the past twenty-five years, ICAF has changed the world for children. More than five million schoolchildren have participated in and benefited from ICAF's free-of-charge programs. An estimated two million students, parents, and teachers have attended ICAF festivals, exhibitions, and conferences in over twenty major cities worldwide. ChildArt quarterly’s readership has grown to about 220,000.

The National Endowment of the Art, the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the Skillman Foundation, and the Robert J. Bauer Family Foundation supported ICAF in 2022. ICAF is independently ranked among the 25 Top Children's Charities in the United States. The U.S. Olympic Committee has granted ICAF an exclusive license to use the "Arts Olympiad" mark. 

ICAF is raising funds to launch its 7th Arts Olympiad in June 2023 and produce the 7th WCF in June 2024.

Since 2009, Gator Wilderness Camp School has served over 180 boys and families in Southwest Florida.

Gator Wilderness Camp School is located in Charlotte County in southwest Florida. Located on a 250 acre property, Gator Wilderness Camp is a year around camping program designed specifically to serve adolescent boys from the ages of 11-15 years old. This group of boys is significantly struggling to interpret a myriad of issues in their families, schools, and communities. We are a private, non-profit (501C3) organization dedicated to sharing Christ’s unconditional love with families and their sons. It is the goal of Gator Wilderness Camp to pursue relationships with those in need and to offer a navigational beacon of hope and healing in the name of Christ.

Bluelight neither condemns nor condones the use of drugs. Rather, we accept that drug use will always exist irrespective of legal status or societal norms. While there is no truly safe way to use drugs, we understand that prohibition and abstinence are not realistic or desirable solutions for everyone, nor have they been adequate in addressing the serious public health concerns associated with drug use.

While there is no universal definition of drug-related harm reduction, Bluelight believes that through frank and open discussion we are able to deliver accurate information, eliminate misinformation and empower individuals to make wiser, more responsible choices. Our approach is that any idea or concern is worth raising, so that all perspectives and experiences can weigh in and help others decide for themselves what to believe, what actions to take.

Bluelight understands that drug use encompasses a broad range of behaviors, some safer than others, and that drug use can progress towards increased risk with some individuals. We encourage our community to be honest and cognizant of their drug use and understand the warning signs of abuse and addiction before they manifest.

Bluelight also hosts a robust recovery community for those seeking a way out of drug abuse and addiction. These forums invite visitors to discuss addiction and sobriety in a non-judgmental setting, share recovery resources and encourage members to seek help. We believe there are various roads to recovery, including 12-step programs such as Narcotics/Alcoholics Anonymous and alternatives such as SMART Recovery.

We are a community-based, non-profit organization that serves the homeless and at-risk populations of the Mid-Peninsula. We establish environments and build relationships where community volunteers can provide food and clothing, as well as referrals for shelter, addiction recovery, and other personal support.

Street Life Ministries (or SLM) began in 2001 at the downtown Menlo Park train station. Today, due to the help of many people, it now serves over 35,000 meals a year, five nights a week, in Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Redwood City. For 20 years SLM gatherings have built a reputation as the one consistent place the homeless can count on. Whether it is a holiday, a cloudy or rainy day, SLM never varies from the set schedule, giving the homeless a stable option throughout the year.

SLM is an established 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a board of directors, and is very different from many “feeding ministries.” It serves a unique role in the way it cares for the homeless and the hungry in San Mateo/Santa Clara Counties. Hot, home cooked meals served in outdoor venues are less threatening for our homeless neighbors, fostering a safe environment for relational connections to develop with the SLM leaders and volunteers. These connections build trust for guiding homeless friends toward healthier decisions, medical assistance, detox, rehab, housing, mentorship and counseling. In addition to food and encouragement, SLM provides clothing, toiletry kits, sleeping bags, medical supplies, temporary shelter, recovery services and job assistance to those in need. 

SLM is also unique because it places its staff and its services “in the streets”, and “in the camps”, where the homeless live. It reaches more homeless people directly in those street locations than traditional professional service agencies. Additionally, no other homeless non-profit in the area provides local residents with the large number (over 6000 hours per year, estimated) of volunteer hours of opportunity to meet directly and be served on a face to face basis as we do. Homeless folks need love, care, trustworthy friends, and reliable, regular support to improve and/or recover. SLM is “in the trenches and on the street” every day, helping our homeless neighbors. SLM’s outreach can be accessed at all hours of the day and night.

About the founders:

Shahar Fearing
After starting her Dog Training Career in the world of Assistance Dogs, training mobility, hearing, facility and psychiatric service dogs, Shahar established a private practice that focused on deepening and nurturing the relationships between people and the dogs in their care. Witnessing the healing and growth that comes from a better understanding of animal behavior and incorporating training into daily practices, is what inspires Shahar to continue and grow her work. FWCC was born to address the need to make the world of dog behavior and this magical experience of what is possible when training is applied in a good way, accessible to ALL communities and their members.

Marilou Chanrasmi
Marilou is a certified somatics coach, mindfulness and qigong practitioner and an experienced facilitator of circles. She is a founding member of Deep Listening for Social Change/DLSC a peaceful action group that was formed by members of the Twin Cities BIPOC mindfulness community in response to the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Marilou is a survivor of sexual abuse and partner violence. Her healing journey from her addiction to alcohol and struggles with depression began in 1988 with the unplanned arrival of her first dog into her life. Her best medicine and teacher arrived in the body of an 8 week old black cocker spaniel puppy. She attributes her decades of sobriety to her dog. Marilou is committed to creating and holding safe and brave spaces where we allow wounded parts of ourselves to be seen, heard and held, and where we can collectively and lovingly support each other and make room for healing, joy and aliveness.

Jacob is Director of Development & Communications at Women’s Advocates, a domestic violence shelter in St. Paul, Minnesota. He came to nonprofit management following many years in academia, the last five spent studying and working with LGBTQ+ activists in Pune, India. During the pandemic, he became the proud owner of a 3 year old cattle dog mix named Gumbo.

Stacy is the Executive Director of Lil BUB's Big FUND, the first national nonprofit focused on special needs pets. Her work centers around advocating for those animals most often overlooked while working to protect and preserve the human-animal bond. My Dog Is My Home's mission is to increase access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with animals.

My Dog Is My Home is a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with companion animals. By securing their ability to maintain their most important relationships and find adequate shelter, we ensure every family’s right to build a home.

We assist service providers like homeless shelters in expanding their programming to allow humans and their companion animals to remain together. My Dog Is My Home’s programs currently fall into three categories: storytelling, community building, and technical assistance.

STORYTELLING
Storytelling is at the foundation of our work. We believe that people who are impacted by the problem are necessarily close to the solution. My Dog Is My Home provides a platform for people with actual lived experience of homelessness and animal companionship to share in their own words how co-sheltering people and animals together contributes to ending homelessness. Through exhibitions, speaking events, and video or narrated images, we are able to educate members of the public, program administrators, and policymakers about preserving the human-animal bond in circumstances of homelessness.

COMMUNITY BUILDING
We believe in the mantra that we are “stronger together.” My Dog Is My Home holds space for members of the homeless services and animal welfare communities to come together to connect, learn from one another, and solve mutual problems. Most notably, our community building efforts have created two related but distinct stakeholder watering holes: 

1) Annual Co-Sheltering Conference
Since 2021, My Dog Is My Home’s annual conference has drawn 400-500 people together from across disciplines to hear from homeless shelter programs about co-
sheltering models in practice, latest research in homelessness and animal companionship, and relevant policy efforts across the US and globally.

2) Co-Sheltering Collaborative
The Co-Sheltering Collaborative is a peer-to-peer learning network with membership that
spans across animal welfare and homeless services. This Collaborative meets as a large group on a quarterly basis to exchange resources, troubleshoot, and hear presentations from members on the progress of their work. In between large group meetings, working groups meet to produce deliverables that work towards collectively developed goals. The Collaborative also provides a sustained community for attendees of the annual conference.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
My Dog Is My Home also works with homeless shelters that need more hands-on assistance with developing or implementing co-sheltering. We provide customized training, consultation on policies, and resource coordination to ensure a successful co-sheltering program.

LAEF (Los Alamitos Education Foundation) is the non-profit partner of Los Alamitos Unified School District in Orange County, California.  

LAEF enhances educational excellence by providing 400+ after-school and summer enrichment programs annually, including free elementary world language classes.  

LAEF fundraises to support student mental health and wellness initiatives at all nine Los Al schools.  With your support, LAEF is now working to maximize the use of Well Spaces across Los Alamitos Unified by developing after-school counseling groups.  This way students can receive support on a variety of areas with peers experiencing similar struggles, all while not missing class time.  

Since 2017, LAEF has donated over $350,000 to build and furnish Well Spaces at all nine Los Al schools, and support counselor staff salaries.

What is a Well Space?  A room on the school campus to improve mental health by creating a calm, safe and comfortable space for students to reset and learn about mindfulness strategies with support from school counselors.

LAEF also funds school STEAM Fairs and grants for STEAM instruction and supplies.  STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.

ABOUT US:
Sequoia Center is a 501c3 nonprofit, providing low-cost, sliding-scale psychedelic-assisted therapies and related services in Portland, OR.  Our organization was founded in 2022 by two LGBTQIA+ identified therapists as a response to the growing disparity between increasing demand for psychedelic-assisted therapies and low accessibility for those most in need. 

Our mission is to increase accessibility to psychedelic healing for individuals historically underserved within the traditional healthcare system (e.g., those identifying as LGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC, those with complex or persistent mental health concerns).  Our direct services include ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, psychedelic integration and harm reduction counseling, community education, and case consultation for prospective clients, providers, and organizations seeking guidance on access to psychedelic services, treatment planning, or program development.  

Sequoia Center exists as a community hub where individuals from all social locations have access to affordable psychedelic-assisted healing services that meet their unique needs. We aim to return personal empowerment to individuals where it has been taken away by harmful systems of oppression and abuses of power.  In the context of our mission, “accessibility” refers not only to financial accessibility, but also to the availability of providers who “match” with different client identities or lived experiences, and services that are rooted in trauma-informed and client-centered care. Accessibility is also increased through collaboration with similar values-based organizations; for this reason, we aim not to work in isolation, but through partnerships with other community organizations, so that clients can be more fully supported across the arc of their healing journeys. 

OUR APPROACH AND IMPACT:
Sequoia Center prioritizes individualized care, where services are adapted to meet each person’s unique needs.  This is accomplished through deep listening and meeting people where they’re at, and through careful assessment, preparation, care coordination, and open communication.  

Our direct services are offered through a restorative justice subsidized care model, which empowers recipients to choose their own hourly rate for services (considering not only income, but also historical and systemic factors that lead to health inequities). We do not require lengthy applications or proof of income/financial hardship for clients to receive subsidized services. We pay all our therapists the same hourly rate no matter what hourly rate their clients have chosen. This program has thus far been quite successful and has created a positive impact track record for our community and donors.

Since our inception in 2022, nearly 75% of our total client base identifies as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ and received reduced-cost ketamine-assisted psychotherapy services through our subsidized care program.  The most common indication treated was complex trauma & PTSD; others included eating disorders, addiction, severe anxiety, medical trauma, and relationship issues.

OUR VALUES:
At Sequoia Center, we believe that psychedelic-assisted therapies can offer healing from trauma through re-connection to ourselves, others, communities, and the world. Further, we believe that organizations providing psychedelic-assisted therapies have a duty to create equitable access for communities who experience disproportionate levels of trauma and systemic inequities in healthcare access.

We chose the name Sequoia Center because Sequoia trees propagate by fire - a beautiful metaphor illustrating our belief that challenges and difficulty can often transform into beauty, growth, and resilience, especially when we are witnessed and held through the fire and pain. We view healing as a collaborative effort; every person within our organization who interacts with a client plays a role in supporting that client’s healing process. Our team is interdisciplinary by design, as we believe that each person’s unique training, experience, and perspective contributes to a rich and holistic healing environment, where we are all able to learn from one another. Furthermore, we believe in the importance of including a client’s support system (e.g., family members, friends, other healing professionals) in the arc of treatment, as well as in the importance of ongoing community connection and support in maintaining healing and wellness. 

We highly value diversity, and as such, we actively recruit team members with a diversity of backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. As a team of community members and allies, we diligently work to create, and operate from, policies and practices that ensure equal access, representation, and cultural sensitivity. We also value creative “outside of the box” thinking and visioning and are continually working to adapt our services and internal processes to most efficiently and effectively meet the needs of our communities (including our team members and the clients we serve).

WHY DONATE TO SEQUOIA CENTER?

1.	We have established experience supporting LGBTQIA+ communities, as that has been a primary focus of ours since our inception in 2022. We believe strongly in the importance of affinity matching (i.e., providing clients with the option to work with therapists who share aspects of their identities and/or lived experiences). Currently about half of our therapists identify as LGBTQIA+ and specialize in working with queer communities.

2.	As bridge builders between local and national psychedelic communities and the health care system, our network reaches far and wide.  We are regularly approached by a wide variety of individuals and organizations looking for services, education, training, and advising in adapting psychedelic services to their particular needs.  Our mission is first and foremost about accessibility, not just within our own clinic walls (i.e., through making our own services affordable and available to all), but beyond - through helping individuals find the route to psychedelic services that is *best for their unique needs*.  Often, this means getting creative and collaborating with other providers, organizations, and resources, and facilitating communication and cohesion among people with different backgrounds and approaches.  

3.	We are a heart-centered team with a wide diversity of skills, expertise, and training backgrounds, including clinical psychology, social work, psychiatry, naturopathic medicine, shamanic healing, art therapy, harm reduction, and peer support. We value bringing together our diversity in the service of a truly interdisciplinary approach where all perspectives are not only valued but viewed as crucial to success.

4.	We value public education and training for new practitioners; our team has vast expertise within these arenas.  We are actively building out a robust training site for graduate students, interns, and new practitioners to gain hands-on experience in psychedelic modalities.   This will not only keep our costs down, allowing us to serve a higher volume of clients, but it will provide crucial experience and supervision for trainees. 

5.	We value real-world research, particularly where psychedelic services are being offered in new or innovative ways that differ from how they are offered within existing clinical trials.  That is, we aim to improve our own services while simultaneously contributing to a greater understanding of the effectiveness of psychedelic services across contexts.  Data is only ever collected with full consent from the clients we serve and never used or shared for commercial purposes.  We view participating in outcomes research as a commitment to our own ongoing learning as well as to improving results for the clients we serve.

Founded in 1973, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) is the only comprehensive rape crisis center in the Greater Boston area and the oldest and largest center of its kind in New England. Our mission is to end sexual violence through healing and social change.

BARCC provides free, confidential support and services to survivors of sexual violence ages 12 and up and their families and friends. We work with survivors of all genders, and our goal is to empower survivors to heal and seek justice in ways that are meaningful to them. We meet the needs of survivors in crisis and long after, and we also assist them as they navigate the health-care, criminal legal, social service, and school systems.

We take the knowledge we learn from survivors and from current research out into the community. We work with a wide range of schools, campuses, community groups, and organizations. These include middle and high schools, colleges, police, health-care providers, businesses, and more. We advocate for change and work with them to help them understand their role in making their environment safe and preventing sexual violence. We do this by offering training, on topics such as how to respond to survivor's disclosures. We provide concrete tools and technical assistance to help create policies and practices that prevent sexual violence in the first place. Our response and prevention programs are based on research and more than 45 years of direct service experience. We are frequently asked to provide expert testimony about potential policy and legislative solutions to preventing and responding to sexual violence. We also provide expert commentary in the media on these issues.

We are powered by roughly 50 staff and over 200 volunteers. 

Each year, BARCC assists thousands of sexual violence survivors—regardless of sex, gender identity, race, physical/developmental disabilities, income, ethnicity, class, religion, sexual orientation, and former/current engagement with sex work—and their families, friends and communities. We provide services in English and Spanish, as well as other languages upon request.

Boston Area Rape Crisis Center

Our mission is to lower the suicide rate and prevent homelessness in the veteran population.  

Formerly known as Operation Combat Bikesaver. Our flagship program is what we call "Hotrod Therapy," which teaches veterans the skills and techniques to rebuild an old beat up motorcycle and create the bike of their dreams.  Through this distractive therapy veterans also get to work through their problems and end up "rebuilding" themselves as well.  We have seen some great men and women go through incredible changes in this program.  The veteran then gets to keep their project at no cost, and they usually end up sticking around to help mentor the next veteran through the process.  
While we are most known for our Hotrod Therapy program, we offer a variety of programs to improve the lives of veterans that served their country.  The "On Your Feet" program helps veterans going through hard times.  Our weekly veteran peer support group "Lima Charlie" meets every Thursday and gives veterans a safe space to workshop their problems with like-minded individuals who have been through similar experiences.  Our F.A.T. Program, or "Fitness and Tranquility" helps veterans to live a healthy, active, and peaceful lifestyle, which can be an adjustment to some.  Just to name a few.
100% of your donation goes to helping veterans, whether that be a part for their motorcycle build, getting them a safe ride to work in the morning, or enabling them to make positive impact in their community.  
We do not believe in just "raising awareness."  People are definitely aware.  We are making a positive impact.

We work with social networks and large online communities, arming them with the tools to make a measurable impact on the health and well-being of millions of people, especially young adults. Our services have reached 2 million people so far, mostly adolescents.

Answering the dreams of children ages 3-18 who are chronically ill, physically challenged and/or abused throughout US since 1976.

MISSION STATEMENT
Sunshine Foundation answers the dreams of children, ages three through eighteen, who have severe or profound physical/developmental/intellectual challenges or trauma from physical/sexual abuse, and whose families cannot fulfill their requests due to financial strain that the child's illness may cause. Sunshine Foundation answers dreams to children from all 50 states and Puerto Rico with life-long chronic conditions; ones that are turned away from the other national wish granting organizations that require a life-threatening or critical diagnosis.

HISTORY
In the 1960’s and 70's, Philadelphia police officer, Bill Sample, was assigned on protective duty to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. He encountered critically ill and chronically ill children, and saw firsthand how these children’s families were burdened, not only by mounting medical bills, but also by the frustration of not being able to provide their child a special dream.

In 1976, Bill took out a $4,000 personal loan and, with the help of volunteers, started the Sunshine Foundation and began making dreams come true for chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children. The first child helped was Bobby, a five-year-old boy diagnosed with Leukemia. Bobby’s nurse told Bill that the boy had a dream to go to the mountains to see snow. Bill brought Bobby, his parents, and siblings to the Pocono mountains in PA for a week of playing in the snow, sledding, and snowmobiling. Not long after, Bobby passed from his battle with Leukemia. Bobby’s mom told us years later that she did not realize at the time how important that dream would be to their family. She said that trip with Bobby, laughing and playing in the snow, was the happiest moment of their lives, and those memories created have lasted a lifetime.

Under Bill’s leadership, the Sunshine Foundation grew into the first national wish-granting organization. In 1990, the Sunshine Foundation Dream Village in Florida opened with nine fairy-tale themed cottages, specially equipped to handle the needs of the children who dreamed of visiting the Central Florida theme parks. Bill also established an annual Dreamlift to bring children with severe special needs on a chartered jet to the Magic Kingdom for a day; and for twenty-seven years, Bill hosted a gathering of children from across the globe who lived with the unique challenges of Progeria (Hutchinson-Guilford Syndrome).

More than 41,500 children have benefited from programs and services of the Sunshine Foundation over the past 45 years. Sunshine Foundation is proud to continuously be ranked as the Top-Rated wish-granting organization serving the terminally ill or chronically ill according to www.charitywatch.org. 

PROGRAM
The most popular dream request is for a family trip to Orlando to visit LEGOLAND Florida, SeaWorld, Universal Orlando, Walt Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, and the Florida coast beaches. Families stay at the Foundation’s 22-acre Dream Village in Davenport, FL, an enchanted accommodation less than 15 miles from Disney World. Since opening in 1990, more than 21,000 children have enjoyed the Dream Village which includes 9 fairy-tale themed cottages, a heated zero-entry swimming pool, handicap accessible playground and a miniature golf course. The Sunshine Foundation provides everything for the entire family including airfare, transportation, lodging, tickets to the attractions and spending money. These Magical Dreams cost approximately $6,600 per family.

We also answer Special Dreams: shopping sprees, computers, iPads, gaming systems, bedroom makeovers, outdoor playsets, above ground swimming pools, family trips, and many more. These Special Dreams cost approximately $2,200 per family.

TARGET
The Sunshine Foundation strives to bring joy to children who need us most, including children from income-limited families who suffer from chronic illnesses, often which has a devastating life-long impact. These are the children who are forgotten and ignored because the initial outcome of their diagnosis is not immediately life-threatening. However, they suffer incredible pain from many incurable diseases that will significantly shorten and hinder the quality of their lives.

The children we serve suffer from several illnesses and conditions including spina bifida, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome, spastic quadriplegia, low functioning autism, brain & spinal injuries, Type 1 diabetes, post-traumatic stress disorder, mental illness, injury from abuse and numerous other syndromes due to mutated chromosomes and rare genetic circumstances. We do not limit our support to one specific illness and address each child’s request with the dignity that is deserved. 

IMPACT
Granting a dream or a wish for a child with an illness is not a part of traditional medicine. However, it often becomes an integral part of a child’s path towards wellness, independence, stability, or recovery. The Sunshine Foundation has many accounts on record from parents and children who attest to the power of a few days away from doctors, hospitals, and treatments. It can make all the difference in the world and the staff proudly pursues its work on behalf of children every single day.

MEASURABLE OUTCOMES
We will measure the outcomes using exit surveys and letters of thanks from the families we serve and expect at least 80% of the children will see either a temporary or permanent improvement in their outlook and at least 80% of the families will also experience some relief from the stress of their child’s or sibling’s illness.
