Since 2009, Gator Wilderness Camp School has served over 180 boys and families in Southwest Florida.

Gator Wilderness Camp School is located in Charlotte County in southwest Florida. Located on a 250 acre property, Gator Wilderness Camp is a year around camping program designed specifically to serve adolescent boys from the ages of 11-15 years old. This group of boys is significantly struggling to interpret a myriad of issues in their families, schools, and communities. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.

In over 70 countries around the world, MSF saves lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most—in armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and other crises.  The people who work for MSF are doctors, nurses, midwives, epidemiologists, water-and-sanitation experts and many others who combine their professional expertise with a commitment to the world’s most vulnerable people.  Each year, these medical teams run close to 470 projects where they care for millions of people.  

As an organization, MSF is neutral and operates independently of any political, military, or religious agendas. It does not take sides in armed conflicts, provides care based on needs alone, and advocates for increased independent access to victims of conflict and disaster as required under international humanitarian law. Medical teams conduct evaluations on the ground to determine a population's medical needs before opening programs, aiming to fill gaps that exist (rather than replicating services that are already offered) or reach communities that are not being assisted.  Over the years, the organization has been the recipient of several awards that recognize its work, including the 1998 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize, the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize, the 2012 J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding, the 2015 Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award, and the 2017 Pardes Humanitarian Prize for Mental Health.

Nyanam is a restorative justice organization preparing widows to lead positive community transformation.

We are a restorative justice organization, preparing widows to be leaders of positive social transformation in their communities through integrated programs in leadership, health, livelihoods and justice. Our work alleviates widowhood poverty, mitigates the impact of HIV/AIDS, and gives widows the tools to tackle oppressive cultural, economic, and social practices that undermine widows’ dignity and limit their agency.

Past and current activities 
Our unit of operation is the leadership circles, which are self-led widow-to-widow support groups that meet on a weekly basis. We also have youth mentorship groups that organize and meet weekly during school holidays. In the leadership circles, widows offer each other spiritual, emotional, and economic support, replacing isolation and loneliness with communities of friendship. These circles consolidate their collective voice to guide the design and implementation of Nyanam’s work. As an organization, we have five main program areas that guide how we engage with Nyanam widows and their children. We use capacity strengthening as the core approach in implementing our programs. Our holistic interventions in leadership, livelihoods, health, justice, and youth education are delivered through our unique curriculum called Voice of Change, a Nyanam’s unique and widow centric training curriculum tailored to respond to the needs and concerns of widows, and uses storytelling, deep listening, and social action as approaches for community transformation. 

Leadership: Widowhood thrusts women into household leadership in patriarchal culture where male headship is valued and expected. We affirm the leadership of widows and harness their potential for community transformation. From the leadership circles, we have trained 640 widows in our various capacities who have in turned trained 780 widows in the same knowledge and skills in their groups. Further, leadership circles conduct Bible studies for spiritual development, personal sharing for emotional support, and table banking for economic development. 

Livelihoods: Our livelihood program has two main components; economic empowerment and sustainable agriculture. We train Nyanam widows in sustainable agriculture, financial literacy, table banking and micro- business skills. We offer them seed funding for their group table banking and businesses, we provide them with vegetable seeds for planting, and new gardening resources (multistorey gardens). 

Health: Nyanam widows' health and well-being is our primary focus. In this program we train our widows in trauma healing, preventative health and counselling. Through our professional and trained counselors, we provide widows with individual and group counseling sessions which support and addresses each widows’ nuanced situation and unique set of challenges, as well as mental health workshops with specific themes at the request of the widows. Further, we have a team of trained community health volunteers that provide monthly health talk sessions in the different leadership circles as well as home visits and health referrals where needed. 

Justice: Access to, ownership and control of land is both a human right and an economic justice for widows. In this program, we raise awareness on widowhood issues and take action to address injustices related to land, housing and widows’ rights. We ensure this through community leaders education and training, conducting conflict resolution sessions among Nyanam widows and their relatives, provide direct legal support to widows who are pursuing their land and property inheritance and succession, provide housing support  by building Nyanam widows dignified houses in partnership with other stakeholders and undertake policy advocacy with different government agencies and policy makers on widows human rights. 

Youth Education: Widows’ children are particularly a population in need of support, as poverty limits the future of both the widows and their families. Guided by our 3-year youth education strategy, we provide capacity training to Nyanam widows children in comprehensive health education, technology and robotics and environmental justice. The training is multiplied in the youth mentorship groups by a group of trained Nyanam youth mentors supported by trained widow matrons. In addition, we provide need based secondary school education sponsorship to widows children to improves student access to secondary education, but also builds students’ communication skills and goal setting through the application and mentorship process. 

In the future we are planning to serve up to 10,000 widows in our region and establish a widow-led cooperative business for financial security and additional income for Nyanam widows improving their financial status and muscles. Further, we seek to expand the work to other communities through training of different partners and stakeholders in our intervention the Voice of Change as a key driver for positive community transformation in the communities of widows.

The cultivation, use, and trade of psychoactive substances — including psychedelics — has been a consistent aspect of human history, but prohibition, criminalization, and militarization — and their inherent oppression — have led to drastic consequences. The ongoing, global War on Drugs has been justified by bad science, racism, and fear for too long: it has led to mass incarceration; erosion of civil liberties; ecological damage; economic waste; and the public health polycrisis of adulteration, poisoning, and overdose. Many of these harmful effects have disproportionately impacted the most historically exploited and oppressed communities. Consequently, we believe societies worldwide have an obligation to account for and repair those harms, to the extent possible.

Our mission is to protect LGBTQ+ youth in Poland from the harms of homelessness and refugeehood. 

The Warsaw House Foundation's mission is to protect homeless and refugee  LGBTQ+ youth in Poland and provide them with the tools they need to live independently. Our inspiration was the  Ali Forney Center  (AFC)  n NYC, which is largest organization in the world offering support to homeless LGBTQ+ youth. We are honored that Carl Siciliano, the AFC's founder is on the board of the Warsaw House Foundation and works as an advisor. We place extra attention on HIV and STI education, support and prevention with the help of board member Dr. Joanna Kubica and the Smart Life Clinic in Warsaw.  After we took in our first LGBTQ+ youth to house on February 14th, 2023  we have been flooded with calls for housing and support from young people in need.  These are Polish Trans 18 year-olds from the Polish countryside in desperate need to escape their abusive and intolerant homes, young queer people with PTSD and untreated mental illness who need housing and support immediately, LGBTQ+ refugees from Ukraine and several young gay men from Iraq who suffered torture in their homeland, were detained and imprisoned at the Polish/Belarussian border for up to two years, and are now trying to build their lives in Poland.  We are also housing and supporting young LGBTQ+ people from Uganda and Egypt,  We are raising money to support the young people under our care, to house and feed them and pay for their medical needs and courses needed for them to start an independent life,  We are also raising money to hire staff (all of WH's work is now done by volunteers), to continue the renovation of our residential building and for short term emergency rentals.  We have a committed and professional team and a well planned strategy for both emergency and long term care.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!! While many people alive today can expect to have greater wealth than generations before us, millions of people live in poverty, and billions more struggle to get by. They may lack access to basic healthcare and vaccinations, making them far more vulnerable to deadly diseases, or to quality education, which strengthens their economic future. These are complex, but not unsolvable, problems. Researchers, advocates, and organizations around the world are working to scale up solutions to these problems. By taking a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to philanthropy that accelerates the best of these solutions, we can do immense good.

The Founders Pledge Global Health and Development Fund identifies and supports highly-impactful and neglected development initiatives. By pooling donations and collaborating with other funding and research organizations, this Fund allows individuals to make contributions when and where they will have the largest impact. We aim to:

- Significantly improve the lives of the world's most vulnerable people;
- Eliminate deaths from easily preventable disease;

### Our Approach to Grantmaking

When evaluating potential grants, we consider several key points:

- **Counterfactual impact**. Our grants are designed to create a meaningful outcome that would not otherwise have happened. This means that you can rely on the Funds to create meaningful, real change, rather than just maintaining the status quo.
- **Impact-driven philanthropy**. This fund prioritizes the highest-impact solutions to challenges. We assess where the gaps are, which opportunities may be neglected by other funders, and where the biggest wins are in terms of making the biggest difference.
-  **The organization’s funding gap**. Not all organizations are set up to scale up their programming and some may not be able to productively absorb large amounts of unsolicited funding at any given point. We evaluate all potential grantees’ capacity for growth and consider how much money they could put to good use.
-  **Organizational strength**. Particularly with unrestricted funding, it’s important to have trust in the leadership and capacity of the organizations we support. We look at their track record of success and their transparency about failures as well as successes, and we only support those organizations which are exceptionally well run.
- **Time-critical opportunities and funding certainty**. While Founders Pledge members give to our top climate charities regularly, sometimes there are time-critical opportunities which require fast decisions. We will use the Fund to make grants that enable such short-term opportunities and stability for high-impact funding opportunities thereby increasing the impact compared to individual giving to specific organizations.

**Can charities apply for money from the Fund?**

The Funds do not generally accept applications from charities, and we request that charities do not send unsolicited applications for funding. If the Fund Managers choose to open up an application round, this will be publicized. 

**How frequently will you make grants from the Fund?**

In general, Fund Managers will review grantmaking decisions on a quarterly basis. Decisions will be made based on the value of Funds and the available options for high-impact grantmaking. We may disburse funds outside of quarterly review dates if we become aware of a particularly promising and time-sensitive funding.

**How will my contribution be used?**

All funds are granted out. The Fund is not an investment vehicle. The Fund does not use any percentage of contributions to cover staff time or other overhead costs. Every dollar contributed to the Fund will be used to make grants directly to end-user organizations creating a real difference.

Dear Cherished Supporter,

Thank you for taking a moment to connect with our mission. We are so grateful for the opportunity to share our journey with you—a journey born from a deep, instinctive need to care for our Elders. **In March 2020, at the onset of the global pandemic, we leapt into action to support our Asian American elder community, who were facing devastating food insecurity, isolation, and loneliness.**

While many believe the urgency that defined the pandemic has passed, **the reality for our Elders remains critical. Even now, 1 in 3 Asian American older adults live below the poverty line.** These challenges are not new. For decades, this community has been overlooked, its struggles masked by the harmful “model minority” myth, which conceals the deep inequities faced by Asian American Elders. This, combined with language barriers, technology gaps, and economic hardship, means that many continue to lack access to the resources and care they deserve.

Out of a guttural instinct to protect and uplift our Elders, we **transformed our 300 square-foot apartment on the cusp of Chinatown and the Lower East Side into a sanctuary of cultural resonance and care.** We hyperfocused on those in the most critical state, providing emergency food relief and addressing their emotional needs through handwritten notes in their native languages, making sure our Elders felt seen, valued, and dignified.

**These care packages are more than just food—they are a lifeline.** Filled with culturally meaningful lunchboxes and fresh groceries beloved in Asian immigrant households like bok choy, rice, mung beans (and more!), all lovingly bundled inside decorated bags, attached with notes of love & joy that deliver warmth, connection, and belonging.

As our work evolved beyond emergency relief, we **built Heart of Dinner into a nonprofit focused on sustainable care.** Thanks to our incredible community of donors, partners, volunteers, and small team of staff, we have transformed into a **501(c)(3) public charity that continues to nourish and uplift our Elders, week after week.**

By Summer 2024, **we have delivered over 200,000 meals to beloved Elders living in significantly under-resourced and underinvested communities across New York City.** And our work is far from over. The challenges our Elders face didn’t begin with the pandemic, and they certainly won’t end with it. **These hardships are rooted in long-standing societal and governmental neglect, where policies and systems have historically overlooked the needs of this community.**

**Looking forward, we have plans to build Heart of Dinner's own delivery infrastructure with a fleet of electric vehicles, hire a dedicated team of drivers trained in our protocols—which emphasize cultural respect and thoughtful care when serving our Elders—and we aim to increase our care package distribution by 25%.** **These efforts will build upon our ongoing commitment to delivering care packages to our Elders and existing beneficiaries with the same high level of deep care and compassion.**

We focus on what matters most to children: How they view themselves. We employ the arts as a dynamic activity for holistic identity development. For personal betterment, we inspire students to reframe their identity as “artist athletes;” for social betterment, we motivate them to become “creative empaths.” 

**1. Arts Olympiad**
Our free-of-charge school art program transforms self-identity for higher-order thinking and enhanced self-worth through fostering creativity and promoting physical activity to counter the epidemic of declining creativity and rising obesity.

The Arts Olympiad introduces students to the "Artist-Athlete Ideal" of the creative mind and a healthy body (*mente sana in corpo sano*). The coalescing of artistic and athletic mindsets sprouts outside-the-box thinking and instills healthy lifestyles.

Because of the program's national significance, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee has granted ICAF an exclusive license to use the "Arts Olympiad" mark.

**2. World Children's Festival**
The Arts Olympiad school art contest winners from the participating U.S. school districts and countries convene at their World Children's Festival (WCF) to celebrate the American values of Creativity, Diversity, and Unity.

The WCF workshops, training, and activities are designed to provide a transformative experience that infuses children's creativity with empathy, inspiring them to become "creative empaths" who can work together to make the world a better place.

**3.ChildArt Magazine**
Objective: Creative and empathic development of young readers. Published ad-free since 1998, ChildArt is a unique magazine focusing on a single theme for each issue. Recent themes include Creativity, Human Security, Young Leaders, The Power of Words, Mindfulness, Metaverse, Animal Art, and Dance.

**4. Special Programs**
ICAF conducts Healing Art Programs to restore faith in nature of child victims of natural disasters and Peace through Art Programs to revive trust in humanity of children in conflict zones.  

**Impact**
Over the past twenty-five years, ICAF has changed the world for children. More than five million schoolchildren have benefited from ICAF's free-of-charge programs. An estimated two million students, parents, and teachers have attended ICAF festivals, exhibitions, and conferences in over twenty major cities worldwide. ChildArt Quarterly’s readership has grown to about 220,000.

According to the WHO, depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and is a major contributor to the global burden of disease. In Africa, an estimated 66M women have depression and 85% have no access to treatment. Since 2014, StrongMinds has treated over 200,000 individuals for depression symptoms, with 80% measuring as depression-free after therapy. When a woman recovers from depression, she is more engaged in the community and her economic activity increases. Her family eats more meals and her children go to school more often. LAEF (Los Alamitos Education Foundation) is the non-profit partner of Los Alamitos Unified School District in Orange County, California.  

LAEF enhances educational excellence by providing 400+ after-school and summer enrichment programs annually, including free elementary world language classes.  

LAEF fundraises to support student mental health and wellness initiatives at all nine Los Al schools.  With your support, LAEF is now working to maximize the use of Well Spaces across Los Alamitos Unified by developing after-school counseling groups.  This way students can receive support on a variety of areas with peers experiencing similar struggles, all while not missing class time.  

Since 2017, LAEF has donated over $350,000 to build and furnish Well Spaces at all nine Los Al schools, and support counselor staff salaries.

What is a Well Space?  A room on the school campus to improve mental health by creating a calm, safe and comfortable space for students to reset and learn about mindfulness strategies with support from school counselors.

LAEF also funds school STEAM Fairs and grants for STEAM instruction and supplies.  STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, the arts and math.

Resilience1220 empowers young people to build resilience, strength, and the tools to master life's challenges.

Resilience1220 provides free counseling services to youth ages 12-20 in the mountain communities west of Denver. Through individual counseling, support groups and community outreach, we work to raise awareness of the social, emotional, and mental-health issues young adults face, and to provide the necessary life skills to create wellness and resiliency in their lives.

Four years ago, our mountain communities faced the reality of three teen suicides. We were made painfully aware of the mental health issues that young people face and the lack of life saving resources accessible to them. Resilience1220 was founded by a group of local therapists and community members. They worked tirelessly to break down barriers to neighborhood mental health resources and the social stigmas around seeking care. We provide confidential counseling services to youth ages 12 to 20 years old at no cost. Our service area includes Evergreen, Conifer, Bailey, Clear Creek, Gilpin, and Park counties.

Counseling sessions with Resilience1220 teach stress-reduction techniques, tools to ask for and provide help, validation, a place to sort through belief systems, and a non-judgmental place to share their feelings.

Resilience1220 fosters an environment of mutual respect in which our staff, clients, and volunteers can feel valued. Our mission is to lower the suicide rate and prevent homelessness in the veteran population.  

Formerly known as Operation Combat Bikesaver. Our flagship program is what we call "Hotrod Therapy," which teaches veterans the skills and techniques to rebuild an old beat up motorcycle and create the bike of their dreams.  Through this distractive therapy veterans also get to work through their problems and end up "rebuilding" themselves as well.  We have seen some great men and women go through incredible changes in this program.  The veteran then gets to keep their project at no cost, and they usually end up sticking around to help mentor the next veteran through the process.  
While we are most known for our Hotrod Therapy program, we offer a variety of programs to improve the lives of veterans that served their country.  The "On Your Feet" program helps veterans going through hard times.  Our weekly veteran peer support group "Lima Charlie" meets every Thursday and gives veterans a safe space to workshop their problems with like-minded individuals who have been through similar experiences.  Our F.A.T. Program, or "Fitness and Tranquility" helps veterans to live a healthy, active, and peaceful lifestyle, which can be an adjustment to some.  Just to name a few.
100% of your donation goes to helping veterans, whether that be a part for their motorcycle build, getting them a safe ride to work in the morning, or enabling them to make positive impact in their community.  
We do not believe in just "raising awareness."  People are definitely aware.  We are making a positive impact.

Marshall ROC -  Restoring Our Community  is a coalition of community organizations, funders, and government agencies bound together by the common interest: Helping our neighbors, particularly those who are most in need, recover from the Devastating Marshall Fire & Windstorms which destroyed over 1000K homes.  

Marshall ROC is led by its members, who are a dedicated community of volunteers and organizations, in collaboration with government representatives. Many organizations in the surrounding communities offered their help after the Marshall Fire. Coordinating these efforts is challenging, but important. Marshall ROC is structured as a Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG), which is a nationally recognized, tried-and-true method for coordinating limited money, muscle, and materials among multiple organizations, on behalf of individuals and communities impacted by disaster. The Marshall ROC Mission is to support and empower individuals and households affected by the Marshall Fire and windstorm to lead their own recoveries by identifying needs and coordinating assistance on their behalf

The mission of Marshall ROC is to support and empower individuals and households affected by the Marshall Fire and windstorm to lead their own recoveries by identifying needs and coordinating assistance on their behalf. Marshall ROC is a collaborative coalition of existing agencies and all Marshall ROC related services will be provided without regard to race, creed, color, gender, disability, religious or political affiliation, documentation status, or sexual orientation. 

Disasters are, by their nature, overwhelming. If it wasn’t overwhelming, we’d call it an “inconvenience,” not a “disaster.” The Marshall Fire and Windstorm is overwhelming. Our neighbors lost hundreds of millions of dollars worth of property and belongings. So many individuals and organizations have rallied to help and it is inspiring to see how engaged and supportive the communities responding to this disaster have been. However, it is now clear the need is greater than the available resources. Marshall ROC and its members will work to help as many people as possible, while managing community expectations.
One of the most important efforts of Marshall ROC is the launch and opening of the Marshall Fire Recovery Center, which is a centralized Louisville, CO location dedicated to expediting the access and delivery of disaster related support, services and resources to fire survivors in Superior, Louisville and Unincorporated Boulder County as they navigate the complexity of their recovery. The Marshall Fire Recovery Center will house the Marshall ROC office and provide spaces for mental health, rebuilding and technical programs, and the network of professionals who are all helping to support the impacted community as well as to facilitate coordination and collaboration among local, national and governmental organizations. The Navigating Disaster for Boulder County program, operated by Lutheran Family Services – Rocky Mountains, will also be located at the Center. 
The Marshall ROC Marshall Fire Recovery Center is a testament to the power of community and our coalition of organizations. Our mission is to make psychedelic-assisted therapy accessible, through direct service, community collaboration, and education.

ABOUT US:
Sequoia Center is a 501c3 nonprofit, providing low-cost, sliding-scale psychedelic-assisted therapies and related services in Portland, OR.  Our organization was founded in 2022 by two LGBTQIA+ identified therapists as a response to the growing disparity between increasing demand for psychedelic-assisted therapies and low accessibility for those most in need. 

Our mission is to increase accessibility to psychedelic healing for individuals historically underserved within the traditional healthcare system (e.g., those identifying as LGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC, those with complex or persistent mental health concerns).  Our direct services include ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, psychedelic integration and harm reduction counseling, community education, and case consultation for prospective clients, providers, and organizations seeking guidance on access to psychedelic services, treatment planning, or program development.  

Sequoia Center exists as a community hub where individuals from all social locations have access to affordable psychedelic-assisted healing services that meet their unique needs. We aim to return personal empowerment to individuals where it has been taken away by harmful systems of oppression and abuses of power.  In the context of our mission, “accessibility” refers not only to financial accessibility, but also to the availability of providers who “match” with different client identities or lived experiences, and services that are rooted in trauma-informed and client-centered care. Accessibility is also increased through collaboration with similar values-based organizations; for this reason, we aim not to work in isolation, but through partnerships with other community organizations, so that clients can be more fully supported across the arc of their healing journeys. 

OUR APPROACH AND IMPACT:
Sequoia Center prioritizes individualized care, where services are adapted to meet each person’s unique needs.  This is accomplished through deep listening and meeting people where they’re at, and through careful assessment, preparation, care coordination, and open communication.  

Our direct services are offered through a restorative justice subsidized care model, which empowers recipients to choose their own hourly rate for services (considering not only income, but also historical and systemic factors that lead to health inequities). We do not require lengthy applications or proof of income/financial hardship for clients to receive subsidized services. We pay all our therapists the same hourly rate no matter what hourly rate their clients have chosen. This program has thus far been quite successful and has created a positive impact track record for our community and donors.

Since our inception in 2022, nearly 75% of our total client base identifies as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ and received reduced-cost ketamine-assisted psychotherapy services through our subsidized care program.  The most common indication treated was complex trauma & PTSD; others included eating disorders, addiction, severe anxiety, medical trauma, and relationship issues.

OUR VALUES:
At Sequoia Center, we believe that psychedelic-assisted therapies can offer healing from trauma through re-connection to ourselves, others, communities, and the world. Further, we believe that organizations providing psychedelic-assisted therapies have a duty to create equitable access for communities who experience disproportionate levels of trauma and systemic inequities in healthcare access.

We chose the name Sequoia Center because Sequoia trees propagate by fire - a beautiful metaphor illustrating our belief that challenges and difficulty can often transform into beauty, growth, and resilience, especially when we are witnessed and held through the fire and pain. We view healing as a collaborative effort; every person within our organization who interacts with a client plays a role in supporting that client’s healing process. Our team is interdisciplinary by design, as we believe that each person’s unique training, experience, and perspective contributes to a rich and holistic healing environment, where we are all able to learn from one another. Furthermore, we believe in the importance of including a client’s support system (e.g., family members, friends, other healing professionals) in the arc of treatment, as well as in the importance of ongoing community connection and support in maintaining healing and wellness. 

We highly value diversity, and as such, we actively recruit team members with a diversity of backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. As a team of community members and allies, we diligently work to create, and operate from, policies and practices that ensure equal access, representation, and cultural sensitivity. We also value creative “outside of the box” thinking and visioning and are continually working to adapt our services and internal processes to most efficiently and effectively meet the needs of our communities (including our team members and the clients we serve).

WHY DONATE TO SEQUOIA CENTER?

1.	We have established experience supporting LGBTQIA+ communities, as that has been a primary focus of ours since our inception in 2022. We believe strongly in the importance of affinity matching (i.e., providing clients with the option to work with therapists who share aspects of their identities and/or lived experiences). Currently about half of our therapists identify as LGBTQIA+ and specialize in working with queer communities.

2.	As bridge builders between local and national psychedelic communities and the health care system, our network reaches far and wide.  We are regularly approached by a wide variety of individuals and organizations looking for services, education, training, and advising in adapting psychedelic services to their particular needs.  Our mission is first and foremost about accessibility, not just within our own clinic walls (i.e., through making our own services affordable and available to all), but beyond - through helping individuals find the route to psychedelic services that is *best for their unique needs*.  Often, this means getting creative and collaborating with other providers, organizations, and resources, and facilitating communication and cohesion among people with different backgrounds and approaches.

5.	We value real-world research, particularly where psychedelic services are being offered in new or innovative ways that differ from how they are offered within existing clinical trials.  That is, we aim to improve our own services while simultaneously contributing to a greater understanding of the effectiveness of psychedelic services across contexts.  Data is only ever collected with full consent from the clients we serve and never used or shared for commercial purposes.  We view participating in outcomes research as a commitment to our own ongoing learning as well as to improving results for the clients we serve.

**Nearly 90,000 Adolescent and Young Adults (AYAs) ages 15-39 are diagnosed with cancer each year in the United States, and this number continues to increase.** 

Additionally, there are over 633K AYA survivors currently living in the US. AYAs are the most underserved population by age, and it is well documented that they often fall through the gaps in the healthcare system. Social support is vital to their quality of life and health outcomes. Yet, supporters in this age group often lack the life experience to stay connected and supportive, leaving the patient to endure this difficult time feeling isolated and alone.

b-present Foundation is a San Diego-based nonprofit established following the devastating loss of 20-year-old [Kirsten](https://b-present.org/kirstens-story/) to cancer in 2016. We improve the quality of life and health outcomes of adolescents and young adults with cancer nationwide through programs that promote and strengthen connections between young adults and their communities of support.

b-present actively engages with the national AYA community of survivors, supporters, health professionals, researchers, and nonprofits. b-present partners with researchers to study the barriers to social support, lead monthly meetings with western hospital AYA coordinators, lead focus groups to get program feedback, and host annual community workshops to discuss support gaps. These collaborative relationships allow the diverse needs of the AYA population to stay top of mind and shape future program innovations, interventions, and strategies to improve support.

Our goal is to help every individual see the important role they can play in the social support network and how they have the power to reduce social isolation and improve health outcomes by being present when they are needed most. 

Through two key programs, b-aware and b-there, we amplify the importance of presence before a diagnosis and provide the tools and resources after a diagnosis so supporters feel ready and empowered to be present when needed. Street Life Ministries (or SLM) began in 2001 at the downtown Menlo Park train station. Today, due to the help of many people, it now serves over 35,000 meals a year, five nights a week, in Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Redwood City. For 20 years SLM gatherings have built a reputation as the one consistent place the homeless can count on. Whether it is a holiday, a cloudy or rainy day, SLM never varies from the set schedule, giving the homeless a stable option throughout the year.

SLM is an established 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a board of directors, and is very different from many “feeding ministries.” It serves a unique role in the way it cares for the homeless and the hungry in San Mateo/Santa Clara Counties. Hot, home cooked meals served in outdoor venues are less threatening for our homeless neighbors, fostering a safe environment for relational connections to develop with the SLM leaders and volunteers. These connections build trust for guiding homeless friends toward healthier decisions, medical assistance, detox, rehab, housing, mentorship and counseling. In addition to food and encouragement, SLM provides clothing, toiletry kits, sleeping bags, medical supplies, temporary shelter, recovery services and job assistance to those in need. 

SLM is also unique because it places its staff and its services “in the streets”, and “in the camps”, where the homeless live. It reaches more homeless people directly in those street locations than traditional professional service agencies. Additionally, no other homeless non-profit in the area provides local residents with the large number (over 6000 hours per year, estimated) of volunteer hours of opportunity to meet directly and be served on a face to face basis as we do. Homeless folks need love, care, trustworthy friends, and reliable, regular support to improve and/or recover. SLM is “in the trenches and on the street” every day, helping our homeless neighbors. SLM’s outreach can be accessed at all hours of the day and night.

Closegap is a 501(c)(3) non-profit technology company on a mission to improve the emotional and mental health of K-12 students.

Closegap is a nonprofit tech startup that’s created a free daily mental health check-in for K-12 students. Each day, students complete a developmentally appropriate and interactive check-in, which asks a series of questions about their emotions, energy level, physical needs and more. Students then have the option to request to speak with a trusted adult or choose from a library of self-guided, social-emotional learning activities on the digital platform. School staff receive alerts, a daily triaged list of their students, and data visualizations to spot trends over time. Founded on the idea that every kid needs at least one trusted adult and self-regulation skills to navigate tough circumstances, we’re working to transform the way kids are cared for and supported within schools. 

THE PROBLEM 
Closegap is addressing the youth mental health crisis, and schools’ inability to meet student mental and emotional health needs. Youth anxiety, depression and suicide have been on the rise for the past decade. In 2019, one in three high school students reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, an increase of 40% from 2009. The pandemic exacerbated the crisis. In 2020, there was a 30% increase in emergency room visits for mental health reasons for youth ages 12-17. Today, suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-24 year olds. 

Schools are on the frontlines of this crisis, and represent an enormous opportunity to strengthen our mental health safety net—most students (and BIPOC students, disproportionately) receive mental health services at schools. Yet, schools are often understaffed and under-resourced. When something is wrong, we don’t have mechanisms in place to catch it. Nationally, there are over 415 students for every 1 school counselor, almost double the recommended ratio. School staff are largely unequipped to monitor the needs of all their students or intervene in real time; it’s unrealistic that they can check-in with each student, and implicit bias can cloud judgment. Additionally, not all students feel comfortable asking for help. For this reason, many students slip through the cracks. Schools desperately need a way to gauge the mental health needs of their students both in real-time (for immediate individual support) and over time (for systemic support) to adequately address the youth mental health crisis. 

THE SOLUTION 
Closegap equips schools with the technology and data to more effectively support the mental health of K-12 students. 

The check-in is developmentally appropriate and backed by research from mental health experts and leading institutions, enabling schools to ask the right questions early and often. It first asks students about their feelings, needs, and challenges. Then the more foundational questions. Are they eating enough? Sleeping well? Is everything okay in their peer group? At the end, students are given the opportunity to privately ask for help from an adult or choose from a library of self-guided, evidence-based social-emotional learning activities, such as box breathing, shaking out parts of their body and making a gratitude list. Students learn to label, understand and regulate their emotions, and are provided with a new, direct line to school staff to express their emotional needs; this is particularly important for students who may not feel comfortable walking to the counselor’s office.

Check-in data enables school staff to monitor and intervene on student needs in real time and at scale; they receive alerts, a daily triaged list of students, and data visualizations to spot trends over time.  Schools move from a disjointed, reactive approach when serious crises occur to a proactive approach to care. 


IMPACT
Schools using Closegap have prevented suicides and uncovered cases of self-harm, sexual assault, bullying and trouble at home that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. The check-in leverages technology to bolster the current support system in schools—meeting kids right where they are, fostering more genuine connection between school staff and students, and increasing empathy and understanding. We’ve served over 200,000 students across all 50 states, with over 5.8 million check-ins completed to date.

YTB is experiential learning in the interests of building community.  YTB introduces youth to principles of co-production and servant leadership.  When youth are involved with community, they strengthen their connections to their community and learn about Civic Engagement.  As youth continue with YTB they experience co-production -- a model in which each person contributes to the design and delivery of projects or services.

YTB is Timebanking customized for youth, a program of giving and receiving where youth earn YTB time credits for their service contributions. Youth take care of Little Free Libraries and community gardens, design logos, participate in virtual events, work on community crochet, and more. YTB time credits earn youth resources-services-opportunities, such as cell phone minutes, refurbished technology, sports gear, school supplies, arts-crafts supplies, books, coaching sessions, digital inclusion, lessons, etc. YTB is a youth-adult partnership in which youth develop strengths, make community connections, and experience something bigger than themselves. Dar-us-Sakina is a safe space for people of all abilities and their caregivers.  We inspire the community to abandon stigmas and embrace individuals with disabilities with empathy and respect.  Together, we are better!

We are dedicated to providing inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities, while empowering the affected and their caregivers with social support and access to local resources.  We envision a Muslim community where individuals with disabilities are fully accepted and included, and both they and their caregivers have adequate access to support.

Dar-us-Sakina offers its services to all special needs individuals and their caregivers within the Houston community, but reserves its Zakat fund for Muslim families who are in financial need or crisis. Our mission is achieved through three key service areas: Education, Support, and Community Awareness.

Education:

Special Needs Weekend Islamic School Programs: At four locations across Houston, children with special needs come weekly to the masjid to learn about their faith using an adapted curriculum and to be included in the community.

Teen Adult Program (TAP): This program helps individuals with special needs take the first step to adulthood by teaching them independent life skills in a supportive social environment.

Support:

Caregiver Support Groups: This allows mothers, fathers, and siblings of individuals with special needs to connect with others with similar life circumstances.

Events: From inclusive family events that make all accommodations to caregiver training events, Dar-us-Sakina engages the local special needs population on a monthly basis.

Zakat Services: For special needs families in crisis, we are committed to providing comprehensive support through our Zakat Fund, including funding of emergency respite care, counseling, necessary evaluations, advocacy and durable medical equipment.

Community Awareness:

Youth Inclusion Training: We visit local Islamic schools, masaajid, and Scouts to train typical youth on accepting and including their brothers and sisters with disabilities.

Community Education: We conduct awareness events and workshops to educate the general community on disability awareness and early childhood intervention.

Sakina Internship: This is a one year commitment for college age students who dedicate one day of the week serving individuals with special needs while learning about related topics.

Volunteer Enrichment Program: This is a volunteer buddy program for High School students.

About Alma Institute: 

Our mission is to strengthen and diversify the network of legal psychedelic service providers by offering prioritized enrollment and certification opportunities to people from marginalized communities. We seek to increase benefits and prevent harms by creating pathways to apprenticeship, employment, and ongoing peer support for facilitators in this growing field.

Launching in Oregon in 2023, our social justice-rooted training program practicum to prepare students for licensure under the nation’s first legal psilocybin services program. We seek to raise industry standards so people from all backgrounds can find belonging and thrive in psychedelic work. This requires anchoring in trauma-informed care, cultural humility, feedback, accountability, and meaningful practices of sacred reciprocity. 

We exist so psychedelic healing work can not only be available to our communities, but relevant to our ancestral and lived experiences and impactful for generations to come.

Our Approach:

We hold a strong focus on continued support and skill building for new graduates, and are weaving a culture of engagement, mentorship and accountability into our programming. We will support this by hosting in person and digital integration circles for new and experienced facilitators, supporting networks of student pods to continue learning together, and leading industry-wide conversations about ethical standards and care. 

Oregon ranks among the worst for mental health conditions and is dismal in access to therapy and psychiatric services. The numbers are even worse for people from marginalized social locations. These community members experience higher rates of the very mental health conditions that psilocybin can help address. However, psilocybin is not a cure-all. Wellbeing is systemic and depends on the harmony of a variety of factors. The success of psilocybin services will depend largely on the trust and rapport established between client and facilitator, the client's sense of safety and belonging, the environment in which services occur, and importantly, the follow-up care and support provided.

As in talk therapy, it is critical that patients have the option of working with someone who has shared identifiers and can relate to their lived experience. This is especially important when working with racial and gender-based trauma and deep healing processes. 

Additionally, the lasting benefits of psilocybin will rely on external factors, such as access to healthcare, safe and consistent housing, healthy food, community support, and gainful employment. It is essential that individuals working in this new industry understand and are engaged with the intersectional approach to wellbeing and community health; if they don't, the industry will be peddling a short-term band-aid solution, with service sites overwhelmed by high-paying experience seekers and fail to deliver on the promises of lasting change and healing promoted by the Psilocybin Services Act. 

Alma Institute seeks to bring a deeper inquiry to psychedelic therapies and help raise standards for the field at large. If we are successful, we can shift the conversation from one laser focused on mental health, to one about the historical roots of our suffering and the systemic shifts needed for collective healing.

My Dog Is My Home's mission is to increase access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with animals.

My Dog Is My Home is a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with companion animals. By securing their ability to maintain their most important relationships and find adequate shelter, we ensure every family’s right to build a home.

We assist service providers like homeless shelters in expanding their programming to allow humans and their companion animals to remain together. My Dog Is My Home’s programs currently fall into three categories: storytelling, community building, and technical assistance.

STORYTELLING
Storytelling is at the foundation of our work. We believe that people who are impacted by the problem are necessarily close to the solution. My Dog Is My Home provides a platform for people with actual lived experience of homelessness and animal companionship to share in their own words how co-sheltering people and animals together contributes to ending homelessness. Through exhibitions, speaking events, and video or narrated images, we are able to educate members of the public, program administrators, and policymakers about preserving the human-animal bond in circumstances of homelessness.

COMMUNITY BUILDING
We believe in the mantra that we are “stronger together.” My Dog Is My Home holds space for members of the homeless services and animal welfare communities to come together to connect, learn from one another, and solve mutual problems. Most notably, our community building efforts have created two related but distinct stakeholder watering holes: 

1) Annual Co-Sheltering Conference
Since 2021, My Dog Is My Home’s annual conference has drawn 400-500 people together from across disciplines to hear from homeless shelter programs about co-
sheltering models in practice, latest research in homelessness and animal companionship, and relevant policy efforts across the US and globally.

2) Co-Sheltering Collaborative
The Co-Sheltering Collaborative is a peer-to-peer learning network with membership that
spans across animal welfare and homeless services. This Collaborative meets as a large group on a quarterly basis to exchange resources, troubleshoot, and hear presentations from members on the progress of their work. In between large group meetings, working groups meet to produce deliverables that work towards collectively developed goals. The Collaborative also provides a sustained community for attendees of the annual conference.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
My Dog Is My Home also works with homeless shelters that need more hands-on assistance with developing or implementing co-sheltering. We provide customized training, consultation on policies, and resource coordination to ensure a successful co-sheltering program.
