There are around 30,000 women in Ethiopia living with devastating childbirth injuries called obstetric fistula, because they don't know help is available. An estimated 1,000 women suffer a new fistula injury every year. Catherine’s trailblazing **Hamlin Model of Care** - today replicated around the world - finds, treats and holistically heals these women, restoring their lives.

Women living with childbirth injuries suffer great trauma. Following obstructed labour, they are left incontinent and usually lose their baby. They are shunned from their community and live hidden not knowing help available.

In a single year, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia treats more than 6,000 patients and perform more than 2,000 surgeries.

We also provide counseling and a range of vocational training to support nearly 1,000 women in their recovery. A woman's healing journey starts the moment she arrives at a Hamlin fistula hospital. She is given a Comfort Package containing a Hamlin blanket that has been lovingly made by a volunteer, hygiene items, a new nightgown and slippers, and a homecoming dress.

These are utter luxuries for the many women who arrive at a Hamlin hospital without shoes, wearing the only stained clothes they own. When they wrap themselves in their Hamlin blanket, they feel the warm embrace of people like you.

For more than six decades, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia has implemented our world-recognized approach to the holistic treatment of women and girls with obstetric fistulas — severe injuries resulting from prolonged, unrelieved and obstructed labor, typically in the absence of skilled birth attendants.

In 93% of cases, the mother suffers not only dramatic tissue damage, but she also loses her new baby. Nerve damage and weakened pelvic muscles make many daily tasks unmanageable. And, women are also often ostracized from their communities – cut off from avenues to leading a full, healthy and happy life.

The Hamlin Model of Care – The World's Leading Approach to Treating Obstetric Fistula

Dr Catherine Hamlin pioneered an approach to treating obstetric fistula, including developing a new surgical technique, that dramatically changes the lives of women and girls — in some cases in no more than an hour.

The Hamlin Model of Care is unique because it is not just about repairing injury, but restoring dignity. Hamlin's Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program at Desta Mender offers counseling, literacy and numeracy classes. Additional programs for vocational and life skills training help women find sustainable employment or establish their own small businesses. Today, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is staffed by more than 550 Ethiopian medical professionals and five regional hospitals have been established to respond to the significant demand for fistula surgery.

To accelerate change for women in Ethiopia, our Project Zero teams will go from door-to-door, in every Woreda (district) to identify women living with historic fistula cases and organize care and treatment. At the same time, we will strengthen maternal healthcare services, to reduce the incidence of birth injuries, and increase awareness, so women have the tools and knowledge they need to give birth safely. Lasting change for women and girls requires building a workforce of skilled birth attendants. Through our Hamlin College of Midwives, we recruit women from rural communities in Ethiopia to learn the Hamlin Model of Care during a four-year Bachelor of Science in Midwifery program.  The curriculum is fully certified and includes the precondition that students conduct at least 40 deliveries before they graduate. Upon graduation, Hamlin midwives return to their villages – today staffing over 90 rural midwifery clinics in remote areas.

Our founder's family has spent much time at UVA Children’s Hospital (and Boston Children's Hospital) when their daughter, Lily, was little and fighting for her life. Improving health in the Peruvian Andes by training and empowering indigenous women as community health workers. 

Sacred Valley Health is a community-based, public health nonprofit that partners with vibrant, indigenous communities in the Andes of Peru. **Our core purpose is improving  health and well-being in underserved, marginalized communities through a community health worker program that empowers local women with education, resources, professional development, and economic opportunities.** 

Sacred Valley Health works with **marginalized partner communities to increase access to health knowledge and health care while \***providing vocational training to women and elevating them as leaders within their communities\*.\*\* It is often the case in indigenous communities, like SVH’s partner communities in Peru, that older women viewed as community elders are a respected voice when it comes to dictating community norms. ​​Our vision is that by empowering cohorts of women with health education and vocational training and by providing culturally relevant health information and care to the vibrant, indigenous partner communities we partner with, we can help people living in these communities to experience greater health and well-being.

Euki

A joint project between VIVO Alliance and Integro Foundation to advocate for victims' rights. 

Background:
The Victims' Rights Advocacy & Accountability Project was inspired by Karla Hernandez-Rosario's exhausting legal battle for justice after she was brutally attacked and sexually assaulted in December, 2020. Her plea for basic human rights was overtly denied by continuous roadblocks in the Puerto Rican justice system, which unequivocally favors the perpetrators of such heinous crimes. It's been nearly two years since her horrific ordeal, and yet no progress has been made to incriminate her assailant. After consulting with several legal professionals, multiple assault victims faced with similar challenges, as well as many non-profit organizations battling the scourge of gender/sexual violence, Karla and her husband came to the conclusion that the problem is indeed systemic. In Puerto Rico, victims of crime such as gender violence and sexual assault have no constitutional rights in the criminal proceedings against their offenders. It is common knowledge that the Puerto Rico Criminal Justice System, for decades, has shown callous disregard toward victims of these types of crimes in their fruitless pleas for justice, leaving them to suffer relentless personal, emotional, and financial wounds.

Vision of Project:
To rectify the severe imbalance between the rights of criminal defendants against the absent rights of victims, VIVO Alliance must raise the necessary funding to collaborate with a team of legal and research professionals, whom Karla and her husband, Gerald, have connected with on their own personal battle for legal justice. These professionals, along with the help of the University of PR, shall implement a work-study program for students from the UPR Legal and Journalism departments. Together, they shall harvest critical information to create an in-depth, on-demand database that clearly defines the severe imbalance of Puerto Rico's legal justice

**Safe Water Now**

We provide sustained safe water access to communities through water treatment – one of the most cost-effective ways to prevent childhood illnesses and death. Safe Water Now programming in Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, and India uses innovative, low-cost approaches like chlorine dispensers and automatic in-line chlorination. With local government and community buy-in, we reach nearly 10 million people with safe water access and have saved the lives of more than 15,000 children under 5 years old. Now, we are scaling in partnership with the Government of India to reach tens of millions more.

**Deworm the World** 

We help improve children's health, education, and long-term wellbeing by treating parasitic worm

infections at schools. In partnership with governments in Kenya, Nigeria, India, and Pakistan, Evidence Action designs, scales, and sustains cost-effective mass deworming programs. Since 2014, Deworm the World has helped governments deliver 2 billion deworming treatments to children, dramatically reducing worm prevalence and collectively increasing economic productivity by an estimated $23 billion USD.

**Equal Vitamin Access**

We combat the leading cause of childhood malnutrition and disability in low- and middle-income countries by helping to deliver essential supplementation. Equal Vitamin Access provides end-to-end support to governments in India and Malawi to address anemia by leveraging our school-based deworming platform to offer iron and folic acid supplementation cost effectively. In 2023 alone, our program reached 35.8 million children with weekly treatments, giving them a

better chance to develop into strong, healthy adults.

**Syphilis-Free Start**

We safeguard the health of pregnant women and their unborn children by enabling access to low-cost syphilis screening and treatment as part of prenatal care. We partner with governments in Liberia, Cameroon, and Zambia to prevent disability, neonatal

mortality, and stillbirths resulting from congenital syphilis. Syphilis-Free Start’s timely detection and treatment prevented 2,300 adverse outcomes such as blindness, neurological issues, and hearing loss between 2021 and 2023, including 1,300 lives saved.

Evidence Action

We provide menstrual products to those experiencing homelessness and low-income disparity. 

No one should have to worry about accessing menstrual products when they are needed.  Helping Women Period provides menstrual products (mostly disposable pads & tampons, but sustainable products when available) to those who need them; we also offer menstrual health workshops, advocacy (let's eliminate period stigma!), and peace of mind.   Since we work with a local janitorial supplier, we can provide one person's menstrual needs for an entire year for only $35.  

Helping Women Period

KWO is an indigenous women’s organisation serving women and girls in our community in Burma and in refugee camps in Thailand.  

The Karen Women’s Organisation (KWO) currently has a membership of more than 70,000 women living in Karen State, Burma and in refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border. KWO is a leading indigenous women’s organisation working in protection and our programs directly serve women, girls, children, and the most vulnerable people in our community. We promote women’s leadership, gender equality and community ownership in all aspects of our work. KWO is active in four main sectors: Organising and Information Sharing Program, Education Program, Health Program and Social Welfare Program.  KWO is led and staffed entirely by women in our community. KWO participates in the struggle to stop all kinds of oppression of women and of children. We believe in a federal Burma, where all communities have gender equality, the protection and promotion of indigenous people’s rights, human rights, and justice. 


WHAT WE DO

Within our 4 program areas we provide: service delivery, advocacy, awareness raising, and capacity building threaded throughout our daily work and our funded projects. Our work varies from the delivery of hygiene kits for mothers with new-borns, conducting community health and nutrition education, to ensuring safe accommodation for women suffering violence, developing Women’s Protection Laws, to training young women from our Communities to become leaders. 

KWO believes that empowering women will help reduce human rights abuses and encourage an end to discrimination against women. We believe that women have a right to be properly represented in politics and society at large. And we believe that the whole community is better off when women play an equal role with men in decision-making. The 17 individually funded Projects which KWO currently implements in refugee camps and Karen State, run under our 4 programs, and have over 100,500 beneficiaries.

WHERE WE WORK
KWO lives and works in the 7 districts of Karen State, Burma which is in Southeastern Burma and in 7 refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border.

ORGANISING AND INFORMATION SHARING PROGRAM  - KWO’s Organising and Information Sharing Program provides services, advocacy and capacity building to support women’s empowerment, mobilize the community, and sustain the organisation. KWO believes that broad community and organisational education contributes to building a fair and tolerant civil society. We conduct training, events and activities around: women’s rights, indigenous rights, democracy, political awareness, a Federal system for Burma, child protection, human rights, project management, leadership skills, public speaking, financial policy and procedures, KWO policy, landmine awareness, etc.

The Organising and Information Sharing Program Co-ordinators are all Karen women who live in their communities. Work under this Program includes: to conduct community consultations to identify needs, share information in the community about the current situation, including through KWO publications, update KWO’s membership list, co-ordinate with the KWO Social Welfare Program to organize the distribution of humanitarian aid (food and materials) in emergency situations, oversee and monitor all funded KWO projects implemented in the area, arrange and attend meetings for KWO and our network, coordinate with other agencies on issues that affect the community, assist researchers and field trips for visiting individuals, advocate on behalf of vulnerable groups in the community, conduct individual and joint advocacy efforts on the local, national, regional, and international stage.  We currently implement 4 funded projects under this program.

EDUCATION PROGRAM 
KWO’s Education Program provides services, advocacy and capacity building to promote education in our community. We provide schooling where there are gaps in existing education mainstream services in the refugee camps, and in areas in Karen State. We particularly target girls in the community to ensure they have equal access to education, protection, development and care. We also place a significant emphasis on education that promotes and preserves Karen indigenous culture.

Our Education Program Co-ordinators are all Karen women and are part of the community. Every day they work to promote education, to identify children struggling at schools or at home and provide support to the family, and assist with school fees when possible. They monitor and support KWO’s funded education projects in their areas, visit all community schools and give encouragement to students and teachers. They conduct home visits and encourage parents to send children to school, and assist the poorest of the poor children to get into schools. They attend events organized by schools to share positive messages about the benefits of education for all. They meet with education leaders at all levels and advocate for inclusive education, improved child protection mechanisms, and the importance of girls education. We currently implement 7 funded education projects under this program.

SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAM 
KWO Social Welfare Program provides services, advocacy and capacity building in all sectors of Karen society. We provide direct care and assistance to community members and we work to solve social problems in our community, particularly those that affect women. Due to the failure of Burma’s successive governments to provide care and security for the people, many ethnic groups, like the Karen, have established well-organised and high-functioning social systems. The KWO Social Welfare Program does a lot of the work that a free and democratic national government would normally be offering to the people.

Our Social Welfare Program Co-ordinators are all Karen women and live in their community. Their duties include: identifying and providing care to the most vulnerable members of the community including the elderly, people with disability or chronic illness, and families in trouble; providing assistance in emergencies; help to organize community events and ceremonies; home visits; build capacity and opportunity for women to earn income especially through traditional crafts; be advocates for the best interests of women in justice cases; fight for improvements in laws relating to women and child protection, justice system reform and better enforcement mechanisms both in the refugee camps and within Southeast Burma.

Overall our Program’s main area of focus is to prevent, and respond to Violence Against Women. Under the Social Welfare Program, and its funded project, we provide an enormous amount of training for women, for KWO leaders and staff, for local community leaders, and for the broader community. We currently implement 4 funded projects under this program.

HEALTH PROGRAM 
KWO’s Health Program provides services, advocacy and capacity building to promote better health in our community. Our Health Program activities address common community health issues, like nutrition and hygiene, and we focus on the health needs of women and of children. KWO collaborates with existing community health organisations to support local health workers, to care for patients and the community. We do not offer medical or clinic-based services ourselves.

Our Health Program Co-ordinators are Karen women who live in their communities. Their work includes: to advocate for better access to health services, accompany patients to hospitals or clinics, organise village and stream clean ups, identify health needs of the most vulnerable people and provide support in the home, conduct health education campaigns in the community, share information with families about good health practices, encourage communities to set up kitchen gardens, organise access to clean drinking water, improve village sanitation and the use of built toilets, promote KWO’s key health messages for women’s reproductive health, improve access to safe sanitary materials for all women and girls, monitor any funded KWO Health projects being implemented in their area, educate parents about good nutrition and childcare, advocate for recognition of skilled Traditional Birth Attendants, and for birth registration and birth certificates for all children. We currently implement 2 funded projects under this program.

Prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases among vulnerable populations.

Our mission is to save lives and improve health in Africa and Asia through evidence-based programs that tackle malaria and other priority diseases while advancing universal health coverage (UHC). In the US, we build partnerships with foundations, donors, and philanthropic organizations to ensure that every contribution makes a lasting impact for those most in need.

As a leader in malaria control and elimination, our work focuses on interventions such as seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), malaria vaccines, disease surveillance, and integrated child health services. We work in collaboration with governments, communities, and health systems to improve access to essential healthcare and strengthen delivery of services in underserved and hard-to-reach areas.

As a leader in interventions such as chemoprevention and vector control, we rely on evidence and our expertise to deliver established interventions, influence other effective interventions and guide new strategies to reduce the burden of malaria, pneumonia, dengue, malnutrition and diarrhea. We work with communities and all levels of the health system to improve access to and demand for primary healthcare services and overall quality of care.

Our tailored interventions seek to improve equity by providing quality, affordable health services to marginalized populations (particularly women and girls and those living in hard-to-reach areas). To ensure barriers to achieving UHC are addressed and to encourage sustainability, we work closely with governments to integrate our programs within existing health systems and structures in the countries in which we work.

We promote disease surveillance as a core intervention to engage communities to improve the quality and accessibility of routine health information by using digital tools and approaches that strengthen the linkages between case-level data and national health information systems. We combine capacity development at community level with the use of innovative tools and platforms to enhance local capabilities to interpret and use these data most effectively.

Malaria Consortium

ConnectMyVariant's mission is to end hereditary disease by bringing families together.

ConnectMyVariant is an educational health-focused 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports individuals and families with hereditary disease in their early detection and prevention efforts. We provide unique value by leveraging our evidenced-based family connection protocols to help people identify other at-risk relatives and help those relatives access genetic testing so that they can get optimal medical care. ConnectMyVariant brings people with the same genetic risk together through our variant database and community engagement events to share experiences and find common ancestors. ConnectMyVariant also works to increase awareness of the benefits of family outreach among physicians, others who provide prevention care, and the broader genealogy community.
 
Our key activities are:

- Working with patients to implement personalized family outreach plans
- Interactive educational workshops about sharing information on inherited disease risk
- Variant specific family reunions to share stories and plan outreach to cousins
- Genealogy assistance to help connect individuals in variant groups
- Individual equity and inclusion grants for family and community outreach

Need and Impact:
When hereditary disease risk is known, family outreach has been proven to be the most effective and cost-effective intervention for early detection and prevention. This family outreach, also known as cascade testing, is recommended by multiple guidelines. Despite overwhelming evidence, family outreach assistance is not reimbursed by insurance or integrated into healthcare. Many people suffer and die from hereditary disease that could have been prevented or caught early.
 
We have shown that our strategies to encourage family outreach can act as a communication multiplier. Our pilot research at the University of Washington showed that this approach enhanced patient experience, was considered ethical, and was appreciated by newly identified relatives. Our approach is low-cost and is 25 to 50 times more effective than awareness and education interventions that target the general population.

Millions of people have been touched by our storytelling and reached by our activism and resources. Jennifer Siebel Newsom founded The Representation Project in 2011 with her groundbreaking film *Miss Representation*, igniting a national conversation about sexism in the media. *The Mask You Live In*, Jennifer’s second documentary, showcased how harmful American masculinity can be for boys and young men. Her latest films-- *Great American Lie* (2019) and *Fair Play* (2022), tackled inequality in the American Dream and in the division of care and domestic work in households, respectively.  

These documentaries on limiting gender narratives have been viewed nearly 30 million times, with our film curricula changing the lives of over 2 million students. Siebel Newsom’s prescience has born true: that storytelling opens hearts and minds like nothing else, shifting attitudes and behaviors. This is culture transformation at its best and creates a more equitable world where everyone can reach their full potential.

**Why Its Urgent**

Gender stereotypes are a public health crisis. Two-thirds of young women have disordered eating. One-in-three girls have seriously considered suicide, up significantly from a decade ago. Boys who hold traditional ideas about masculinity are significantly more likely to bully and harass others, and to suffer from depression and suicidal ideation.

The dangers to our youth link back to harmful messages. For girls, these stereotypes form the root cause of body hatred and shame, eating disorders, depression, low self-esteem and low leadership ambition. For boys, they are the primary driver of depression, dangerous risk-taking activities, substance abuse, suicide and violence. By getting in front of the message, we can change the outcome.

**How We Do It**

- We raise awareness through films— viewed over 30 million times worldwide.
- We educate students through our curricula, which has reached over 2.4 million students.
- We amplify the impact of our film and educational materials through hashtag campaigns (e.g., #AskHerMore, #NotBuyingIt, #EndRape, #RespectHerGame) that have reached 588 million people.

Our mission is to help pregnant people take control of their healthcare and futures by dismantling medicalized control of abortion and encouraging a world where abortion pills are over the counter.

We simplify access to care for patients by funding virtual abortion providers and clinics, individuals accessing telehealth abortions, and reimbursing local funds for telehealth abortion care, allowing them to focus their resources on people seeking procedural abortions in their communities.

In addition to direct funding, we partner with organizations doing research and other activism to increase access to abortions.

Access Bridge improves access to evidence-based reproductive health services by building the capacity of emergency departments.

[Access Bridge](https://bridgetotreatment.org/reproductive-health/access-bridge/) is a novel program that improves access to evidence-based reproductive health services and increases health equity by building the capacity of America’s emergency departments (EDs) to serve as reproductive health safety nets. **You have the opportunity to support a realistic reproductive healthcare reform that will impact patients immediately and address threats clinicians face in the post-Dobbs landscape.**

In a post-Dobbs era, 24 states have implemented abortion bans, leaving many emergency physicians without clear guidelines for treating pregnancy emergencies and reproductive health issues. Concurrently, there has been a growing reliance on the emergency department as the only access point for patients needing urgent or emergent reproductive health care. As this continues, we will see an increased dependence on the emergency department as the only access point for patients needing urgent or emergent reproductive health services. With your continued financial support, we will expand our work in EDs and continue to teach skills in the diagnosis and management of common pregnancy emergencies, provide information on the provision of non-coercive access to contraception and emergency contraception, and develop further partnerships for research and data collection.

We currently have new and graduated fellows working at over 40 hospitals across 23 states and are scaling rapidly. Your support will fund:

According to the WHO, depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and is a major contributor to the global burden of disease. In Africa, an estimated 66M women have depression and 85% have no access to treatment. Since 2014, StrongMinds has treated over 200,000 individuals for depression symptoms, with 80% measuring as depression-free after therapy. When a woman recovers from depression, she is more engaged in the community and her economic activity increases. Her family eats more meals and her children go to school more often. When you invest in mental health, you invest in the future of an individual, their family, and their community.

The mission of Upstream USA is to expand opportunity by reducing unplanned pregnancy across the U.S. We work in partnership with health centers to strengthen reproductive care and autonomy by increasing equitable access to the full range of contraceptive options. 

Patient-centered contraceptive care is at the core of Upstream’s work. We deliver high-quality training and technical assistance to healthcare providers of all types, including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), hospital systems, state and local health departments, and Primary Care Providers. All at no cost to our healthcare partners.

A social initiative of Udhavum Ullangal Public Charitable Trust, poised to transform the landscape of cancer care in Tamil Nadu.

We are 24yr old charitable trust, in Chennai, working in the areas of cancer care, women empowerment and education. We channel the goodwill of communities and bring hope to people in need.

Since 2011 our Nellai Cancer Care Centre in Tirunelveli has been offering comprehensive cancer care services to underprivileged people. **We have so far raised awareness for over 200k+ people, screened more than 60k+ individuals, conducted over 2800 cancer camps, treated over 1500 patients, and currently provide home-based mobile palliative care services to over 300 patients**. All our initiatives align with the **WHO framework** for cancer care and **SDG Goal 3** for health and wellbeing.

We are now working towards establishing our very own cancer speciality hospital to bridge the growing access-affordability gap in cancer care in Tirunelveli.

Our **[Nellai Cancer Hospital](http://www.nellaicancerhospital.org/)** - a 70-bed facility - will be situated on [a 5.35-acre lush landscape in Sengulam](https://youtu.be/Ij3ErArnajw?si=Gkau13HtITZ3k9Bl) to serve 2 million across the region, spanning several districts.  Equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostics and inpatient care, it is poised to deliver high-quality and holistic cancer care services to patients.

The entire project is being **guided by the Cancer Institute (WIA)** in Adyar, Chennai and several eminent advisors across industries.

So far we have

1. Acquired 5.35 acres of land for the hospital, generously donated to us.
2. Developed a comprehensive architectural plan for a 70-bed hospital, with the initial phase 1 covering approximately 29,000 sq. ft. 
3. Secured the necessary approvals to construct up to 40,000 sq. ft. at the site.

Protecting children's brain development through salt iodization


Entering pregnancy with adequate iodine in the diet protects children's brain development and helps them to grow and learn better. The small amounts of iodine needed can be obtained by using iodized salt in cooking or in food products. It costs just 5 cents a year for a lifetime of protection.

Despite not being directly related to schools, removing this barrier to healthy development is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to support children's educational outcomes. 

IGN is only organization with a sole objective to protect the world from iodine deficiency.  The problem has never fully disappeared, and changing dietary patterns are causing deficiency to re-emerge, even in some of the world’s wealthiest countries.  

Without our work, the global progress achieved over the past few decades could disappear*.*  It would be a major loss to humanity to see this progress slip away when we know how to prevent it. It may be a humble intervention, requiring relatively small amounts of funding, but its impact is enormous.  Thanks to all of you for your past and future support for our work.

Our History and Our Present:

CHILA was started by Brian Smith, MD in the town of Chisec, Guatemala.  Brian served as a member of the Peace Corps in the region and witnessed firsthand the lack of access to healthcare for the population in the area.  Once he returned to the United States, he changed his vocation from engineering to medicine.  He entered medical school and became a physician while concurrently traveling back and forth to Chisec to build and open a medical clinic.  CHILA has grown with the belief that no person should die or be denied healthcare because of where you were born.  After years of providing care to many people in the region, CHILA was recognized as a nonprofit organization in 2019.

Currently, CHILA funds a small group of local medical professionals in Chisec who we pay to provide ongoing  and prescribed care for chronic and complex medical conditions.  Dr. Smith and a contingency of volunteer medical providers from the United States travels to Chisec annually to hold clinics in our Chisec location as well as a variety of villages in the region.  During these clinic days, we see cases of varying levels of complexity.  We are able to treat common ailments during these clinic days as well as establish longer term care plans for more complex and chronic issues.  We provide all these services with translators who can speak in the native Q’eqchi language.

SisterSong is a Southern based, national membership organization; our purpose is to build an effective network of individuals and organizations to improve institutional policies and systems that impact the reproductive lives of marginalized communities.

Medical Action Myanmar (MAM) is a medical INGO focusing on providing largescale access to free, quality healthcare for the marginalized people in Myanmar. MAM commenced its implementation of activities in 2009 with the first clinic in a huge shanty Hlaingtharyar Township in Yangon. Since then, we expanded to 20 clinics in Yangon, Kachin, Kayin, Chin, Shan, Mon and Sagaing. MAM has also expanded to other areas of need, such as child protection/education.

Furthermore, MAM has recruited and trained villagers in approximately 2300 villages across Myanmar to provide diagnosis and treatment for Malaria, TB and basic health care, amongst others. MAM’s clinics cover a wide variety of services for different diseases ranging from HIV and TB to Basic Healthcare or Hepatitis. In 2023 MAM conducted just over **2 million** medical consultations.

We believe no woman should endure a life of misery and isolation, simply for trying to bring a child into the world. 

Obstetric fistula is a devastating childbirth injury. It leaves a woman incontinent, humiliated, and—all too often—shunned by her community. Obstetric fistula ranks as one of humanity’s most disabling injuries—but it can be cured by a surgery that costs $624. Few investments in human health can yield such a dramatic impact on a woman, her family, and her community. 

At least one million women today suffer for want of a surgery that can transform their lives. Living primarily in rural areas of Africa and Asia, women suffering with untreated fistula or severe perineal tears (a similar childbirth injury that causes fecal incontinence) endure the burden of debilitating injuries on top of crushing poverty and gender inequality.

There are three main barriers that prevent them from accessing the care they need: Stigma and lack of awareness, poverty, and inadequate healthcare systems.

Fistula Foundation has a proven model: We help where the need is greatest. We partner with carefully selected doctors and hospitals that are trusted by the communities they serve. Funding 95 partners across more than 35 countries, Fistula Foundation has a vision—and a plan—to bring the suffering caused by fistula to an end in all countries where this condition persists today.

We give small mills everything they need to add vital nutrients into the food that millions of malnourished people eat the most.

Sanku combats hidden hunger and saves lives by giving small mills the tools needed to fortify maize flour, an East African staple. Our mission: Guarantee that every meal consumed by every mother & child contains vital nutrients, forever. 

Worldwide, 8,000 children die every day and 2 billion suffer from preventable illness because their diets lack basic vitamins and minerals. Fortification (adding life-saving micronutrients to processed foods) is the most cost-effective nutrition intervention, but it has failed to reach the 6.5 billion people in developing countries who rely on small, often rural, mills for most of their food.

Sanku developed a technology and business model to enable the small mills that feed the most malnourished people to conveniently and affordably fortify staple grains. Our technology adds precise levels of nutrients into flour during processing and our business model leverages economies of scale to offset any additional costs for millers and their customers, providing Sanku with revenue margins that increase as we scale. We are currently reaching 3 million East Africans with the basic human right of nutritious food and have a plan to reach 100 million this decade, which will prevent millions from death and disease, boost productivity, and save billions of dollars in GDP.  

A donation of ~$1 is enough to give one person access to nutritious food for an entire year, so even a small donation can go a long way in the fight against malnutrition.

In Israel alone, statistics show that cases of PTSD, suicide and emotional distress have more than doubled. When trauma and mental health goes unhealed, it can manifest physically, God forbid.

Maim Haim is dedicated to restoring the resilient soul of Am Israel through our intensive three-day healing retreats. Through Torah based holistic healing, ancient wisdom & transformative therapeutic practices, along with community support, we help individuals release trauma, regain strength and step into a renewed sense of peace, purpose & resilience.

About HOPE USA:

HOPE Charities USA is a volunteer-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization working to better the socioeconomic forefront of impoverished citizens in Pakistan.  Estimates of poverty in Pakistan range anywhere from 25 percent to almost 40 percent.  Health indicators suggest that it is the lack of accessible healthcare — not terrorism, drones or the energy crisis — that is the greatest adversity facing Pakistan.  Additionally, in a country where 60 percent of youth are illiterate and only 1 in 3 women can read and write, education becomes a scarce commodity which inhibits freedom from poverty.  HOPE USA’s mission is to end poverty in Pakistan through a calculated, multi-pronged interventional approach which focuses on Healthcare, Education, Vocational Training, Clean Water, and Disaster Relief.

Currently, HOPE has a countrywide presence throughout Pakistan which includes 4 Hospitals, 3 Formal Schools, 200 Informal Schools, 7 Vocational Centers, 1 Basic Health Clinic, 2 Mobile Health units, and 6 Maternal and Child Health Clinics.  Altogether we have grown to a network of hospitals and schools that treats over 750,000 patients per year, educates 11,000 students annually, and provides income-generating skills to over 2,000 young adults yearly; 70 percent of our beneficiaries are women and children.

All of HOPE USA’s health, education, and vocational training facilities provide free/nominal cost services to the impoverished. Additionally, HOPE has been on the frontlines of every emergency relief effort that has impacted Pakistan, from the 2005 Kashmir earthquake to the current 2022 catastrophic flooding crisis.  Our emergency relief efforts have generated aid to over 100,000 victims of natural disasters over the years and we have established 130 hand pumps in remote and rural areas to provide clean water to 130,000 people total.

As a nonprofit organization, HOPE USA has an outstanding record of performance. With almost 15 years of experience, we are currently at the stage where we are a small organization with tremendous impact potential.  Major corporations/governments have vetted us and trust our work.  Some recent grantors include Procter & Gamble, Paypal, Target Corporation, US Aid, Unicef, and the Centers for Disease Control. Additionally, HOPE USA has received corporate matches from Cisco, Microsoft, Salesforce, Oracle, Facebook, Linked In, Adobe, Paypal, Mastercard, and Dreyers. 

We are a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) boasting some of the lowest overhead rates one will see in the nonprofit realm (less than 3 percent). In 2021 we were awarded a medal by Pakistan President Arif Alvi for our poverty alleviation model in Pakistan – we were 1 of just 2 organizations to receive this honor. We are also the only authorized distributor of Procter & Gamble PuR water sachets in Pakistan which become critical during times of natural disasters such as the 2022 Pakistan Flood Crisis.

HOPE USA's Story:

Health Oriented Preventive Education (HOPE) was the inspiration of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, a pediatrician by profession who helped eradicate polio from Pakistan in the early stages of her career.  In 1997, while working in Karachi’s government-sponsored hospital for the needy, Civil Hospital (where she currently still practices), Dr. Mubina thought of a vision for the betterment of the citizens of her country.  She and a small band of volunteers joined forces to establish HOPE as a nonprofit governmental organization in Pakistan.  

Due to Dr. Mubina's medical background, HOPE's initial objective was to provide the poor with better access to medical centers and hospitals.  In a country grappling with basic issues such as lack of access to clean drinking water, poor maternal and infant health, malnutrition in children, prevention and treatment of diseases such as malaria, cholera, and tuberculosis, it already seemed as though HOPE had enough of a challenge on its hands.  

But soon Dr. Mubina realized that the cornerstone of a productive and forward-thinking community relies on both a healthy body and healthy mind.  She honed her vision to an integrative approach that was twofold: health and education.  Today, HOPE has evolved to an organization that prioritizes the health and education opportunities of underserved women and children in Pakistan.  HOPE aims to empower females with education and health so that they become self-sufficient and productive members of society. 

As a single woman in a male-dominated country, Dr. Mubina faced many challenges and setbacks; it was through perseverance and hard work that HOPE grew from a dream to a reality.  Today, HOPE has a countrywide presence throughout Pakistan which includes hospitals, formal schools, informal schools, vocational centers, basic health clinics, mobile health clinics, and maternal health clinics, all which provide free or minimal-cost healthcare and education.  Additionally, HOPE has been active in disaster relief efforts throughout Pakistan. 

In the course of 25 years, HOPE has emerged as a viable solution in bettering the socioeconomic forefront of the people of Pakistan, particularly women and children.

Every child deserves access to education. It is a basic human right. Yet in Sub-Saharan Africa, over one fifth of primary school aged children are not in school. That’s just not right. 

So They Can is an international NGO on a mission to change this. They work with vulnerable communities and their governments in Kenya and Tanzania to educate and empower children, so they can break the poverty cycle, realise their own potential and meet their own needs. 

Over a 7-10 year development cycle, So They Can works closely with a community to understand their needs and implement projects that will best support them. Throughout the cycle, they develop relationships and ensure transfer of knowledge and management skills to these communities to ensure sustainability of the programs. This enables them to eventually shift to a governance role so we can expand our focus and core resources to help other vulnerable communities.

Since being founded in 2008, the DFAT accredited NGO has partnered with 42 schools and helped deliver quality education to over 24,000 students.

So They Can

VCCA works to educate Virginian communities, health professionals, and lawmakers about the health impacts of climate change.

In 2015, pediatrician Dr. Samantha Ahdoot was asked to testify in front of the Virginia General Assembly, on behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics, in support of a clean air bill. Virginia legislators were surprised and initially confused that a physician was speaking out about climate change, but many noted that the pediatrician's statement led them to support the bill, and the bill passed. 

Following this experience, Dr. Ahdoot realized that the voice of health professionals was needed, and lacking in statewide discussions about climate action. She and other health professionals began meeting in the hospital conference room to talk about how they could educate, empower, and mobilize other health professionals to become advocates for climate solutions in Virginia.

Almost 10 years later, VCCA has over 650 members, with committees including Healthcare Sustainability, Nutrition, Legislative Advocacy, Education, and Climate Justice, who are engaged in action at health professional schools, communities, and health systems across the state of Virginia.

Nyanam is a restorative justice organization preparing widows to lead positive community transformation.

We are a restorative justice organization, preparing widows to be leaders of positive social transformation in their communities through integrated programs in leadership, health, livelihoods and justice. Our work alleviates widowhood poverty, mitigates the impact of HIV/AIDS, and gives widows the tools to tackle oppressive cultural, economic, and social practices that undermine widows’ dignity and limit their agency.

Past and current activities 
Our unit of operation is the leadership circles, which are self-led widow-to-widow support groups that meet on a weekly basis. We also have youth mentorship groups that organize and meet weekly during school holidays. In the leadership circles, widows offer each other spiritual, emotional, and economic support, replacing isolation and loneliness with communities of friendship. These circles consolidate their collective voice to guide the design and implementation of Nyanam’s work. As an organization, we have five main program areas that guide how we engage with Nyanam widows and their children. We use capacity strengthening as the core approach in implementing our programs. Our holistic interventions in leadership, livelihoods, health, justice, and youth education are delivered through our unique curriculum called Voice of Change, a Nyanam’s unique and widow centric training curriculum tailored to respond to the needs and concerns of widows, and uses storytelling, deep listening, and social action as approaches for community transformation. 

Leadership: Widowhood thrusts women into household leadership in patriarchal culture where male headship is valued and expected. We affirm the leadership of widows and harness their potential for community transformation. From the leadership circles, we have trained 640 widows in our various capacities who have in turned trained 780 widows in the same knowledge and skills in their groups. Further, leadership circles conduct Bible studies for spiritual development, personal sharing for emotional support, and table banking for economic development. 

Livelihoods: Our livelihood program has two main components; economic empowerment and sustainable agriculture. We train Nyanam widows in sustainable agriculture, financial literacy, table banking and micro- business skills. We offer them seed funding for their group table banking and businesses, we provide them with vegetable seeds for planting, and new gardening resources (multistorey gardens). 

Health: Nyanam widows' health and well-being is our primary focus. In this program we train our widows in trauma healing, preventative health and counselling. Through our professional and trained counselors, we provide widows with individual and group counseling sessions which support and addresses each widows’ nuanced situation and unique set of challenges, as well as mental health workshops with specific themes at the request of the widows. Further, we have a team of trained community health volunteers that provide monthly health talk sessions in the different leadership circles as well as home visits and health referrals where needed. 

Justice: Access to, ownership and control of land is both a human right and an economic justice for widows. In this program, we raise awareness on widowhood issues and take action to address injustices related to land, housing and widows’ rights. We ensure this through community leaders education and training, conducting conflict resolution sessions among Nyanam widows and their relatives, provide direct legal support to widows who are pursuing their land and property inheritance and succession, provide housing support  by building Nyanam widows dignified houses in partnership with other stakeholders and undertake policy advocacy with different government agencies and policy makers on widows human rights. 

Youth Education: Widows’ children are particularly a population in need of support, as poverty limits the future of both the widows and their families. Guided by our 3-year youth education strategy, we provide capacity training to Nyanam widows children in comprehensive health education, technology and robotics and environmental justice. The training is multiplied in the youth mentorship groups by a group of trained Nyanam youth mentors supported by trained widow matrons. In addition, we provide need based secondary school education sponsorship to widows children to improves student access to secondary education, but also builds students’ communication skills and goal setting through the application and mentorship process. 

In the future we are planning to serve up to 10,000 widows in our region and establish a widow-led cooperative business for financial security and additional income for Nyanam widows improving their financial status and muscles. Further, we seek to expand the work to other communities through training of different partners and stakeholders in our intervention the Voice of Change as a key driver for positive community transformation in the communities of widows.

 The Fund for Congolese Women (FFC)   supports women's grassroots organizations through financial and technical assistance.  FFC is unique - the only women-led grant-giving NGO in the entire DRC. We provide grants to local women-led organizations that are often in the most remote, difficult to reach areas.   Why? We are unshakable believers in local solutions to local issues.  We know that the brave women and girls working at the grassroots level have the solutions. We know that when women become agents of change, they benefit, their families benefit, their communities benefit. Since its inception in 2007, FFC has funded more than 386 projects throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo. We support projects focusing on eliminating sexual violence against women, delivering empowerment programs for women and girls, educating women about HIV/AIDS and reproductive health, and advocating for environmental justice and access to resources and land for women.
