Zera Bolivia Foundation

Zera Bolivia is an educational foundation founded in La Paz in 2013 and led by Aymara educators. We teach children and young people three things: how to regulate their emotions, how to think critically, and how to name and face racism and sexism.

Our first class, in March 2015, was thirteen children who live inside a women's prison with their mothers. Weeks later, their mothers wrote asking for the second level. Since then we have reached more than 12,300 children across all nine departments of Bolivia, and at our peak we were inside every prison where children live with their mothers and across the whole national children's hospital network.

When governments changed, those programs stopped. So we redesigned. Today we train rural authorities, young leaders from El Alto, teachers, and cultural centers, who go home and become facilitators in their own towns. The program now lives in people, not permits.

Sembradores are our monthly members. $10 a month, kept for a year, is one child's full program and its replication: her workbook, materials, a facilitator from her own community, a graduation, and what it takes for the next facilitator to take the program home. Four times a year our founder writes to you herself.
