CONEXIÓN creates opportunities together with rural communities in Guatemala, recognizing women and youth as key actors for sustainable development. Through our regional programs —Youth & Resilient Bioeconomies and Vuela Libre— we work to reduce inequalities and generate better life opportunities for vulnerable people and communities across Latin America.

Our work focuses on co-creating and implementing innovative social impact models with local partners, scaling community-based solutions that respond to the shared challenges of rural territories.

🍲 The MISKA Schools: Gastronomy and Entrepreneurship with Identity

At the heart of our innovation lies the MISKA Schools, a model of social transformation that uses gastronomy and entrepreneurship as tools to connect identity, economy, and sustainability. MISKA (meaning flavor or mixture in Quechua) transforms traditional cooking into a space for learning, cultural pride, and economic empowerment.

The schools operate in three complementary modalities —fixed, itinerant, and mobile— allowing us to reach diverse territories and adapt to local contexts.
Through these formats, MISKA strengthens the skills of young people and women in sustainable gastronomy, agroecology, and hospitality, promoting community-led businesses that protect biodiversity, celebrate culture and generate dignified livelihoods, linking food systems with environmental stewardship and market opportunities.

The MISKA model has inspired a growing movement across Guatemala and Mesoamerica —a network of young chefs, producers, and entrepreneurs who are proving that preserving culture and biodiversity can go hand in hand with creating dignified livelihoods.
