The Allen Institute for AI (AI2) is a leader in the field of AI, and our mission is to contribute to humanity through high-impact AI research, engineering, and applied technologies. Transparency, accessibility, and collaboration are at the core of our work. As a nonprofit organization, we are able to take on research endeavors that universities can’t and private corporations won’t.
Founded in 2014, AI2 is the largest 501c3 nonprofit AI2 research organization in the world. Our team is composed of 200+ world class AI researchers and engineers from around the globe, centered around our Seattle offices where collaborative problem solving drives our impact-related efforts.
From making AI more accessible to underrepresented communities to protecting wildlife and our oceans, we have several teams at AI2 taking on some of the world’s biggest challenges.

Semantic Scholar: A free, AI-powered research tool for scientific literature, accelerating scientific breakthroughs by providing a better way to discover new knowledge and key insights
Climate Modeling: Creating faster, more efficient, modernized open-source models to advance the important research into global climate model projections
EarthRanger: A free software solution that aids protected area managers, ecologists, and biologists in making more informed operational decisions for wildlife conservation
Skylight: A platform that helps improve maritime transparency and combat illegal fishing by surfacing suspicious events and providing actionable intelligence to protect our oceans
Wildlands: Delivering AI-backed tools that improve the health and resilience of our wildlands by supporting fire management
