Red ADELCO: Transforming Communities Through Local Economic Development

Red ADELCO is an organization with over 15 years of experience promoting Local Economic Development (LED) in Colombia as an effective response to strengthening territorial economies and offering sustainable alternatives to the most vulnerable communities. Our work is primarily carried out in rural areas, where limited access to markets, infrastructure, and financing hinders the creation of formal economic opportunities. Red ADELCO has worked tirelessly to reduce dependence on illegal economies, promote social inclusion, and generate economic stability.

Our mission is to transform living conditions in rural territories affected by drug trafficking, armed conflict, and socio-economic exclusion by facilitating access to lawful and sustainable productive opportunities. We focus especially on youth, women, ex-combatants, and conflict victims, recognizing their fundamental role in the social and economic reconstruction of these territories.

Our objectives

  • Reduce dependence on illegal economies by strengthening legal and sustainable value chains in rural areas.
  • Empower women, youth, ex-combatants, and conflict victims through access to training, financing, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
  • Promote decent employment and inclusive development in rural areas, ensuring equitable participation in economic opportunities.
  • Strengthen local governance and social cohesion in rural communities, working alongside authorities, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Incorporate environmental sustainability strategies, promoting productive models that respect ecosystems and contribute to the conservation of natural resources, particularly in high-biodiversity areas threatened by drug trafficking and deforestation.
  • Promote fair trade and market connections, ensuring that small rural producers receive fair compensation for their work and can access national and international markets under equitable conditions.

Red ADELCO has successfully implemented Local Economic Development strategies in various rural regions of Colombia, generating a positive impact on vulnerable communities. Some of our key initiatives include:

  • Women: Training and financing programs have strengthened their economic and social autonomy, promoting their participation in high-potential value chains and supporting infrastructure development projects.
  • Youth: Technical training and youth entrepreneurship programs in sustainable productive sectors foster decent employment, prevent involvement in illegal activities, and promote generational renewal in rural economies.
  • Ex-combatants: Productive reintegration initiatives focus on income generation and economic stability within the framework of peace agreements, facilitating market access and the creation of collective enterprises.
  • Conflict Victims: Socioeconomic strengthening projects provide access to financing and commercial networks, promoting their resilience and reconciliation efforts with ex-combatant populations.
  • Strengthening sustainable value chains, including cocoa, community tourism, handicrafts, coffee, and shrimp farming, improving access to national and international markets for small rural producers.
  • Promoting alternative productive initiatives, enabling small rural producers to voluntarily replace illicit crops with profitable and sustainable economic options.
  • Implementing environmental conservation strategies, such as soil restoration, watershed protection, and agroecological practices for sustainable production. We promote bioeconomy and reforestation as key pillars of rural development.

To expand our impact, we aim to:

  • Expand program coverage to new rural regions, prioritizing territories with high socio-economic vulnerability and the presence of illegal economies.
  • Develop a social investment fund to provide direct financing for productive projects in rural communities.
  • Strengthen alliances with the private sector and international organizations to ensure the scalability and sustainability of our initiatives in rural settings.
  • Expand our environmental initiatives, promoting innovative solutions for the sustainable management of natural resources in rural communities and reintegration processes.
  • Develop innovation and rural digitalization programs, enhancing the competitiveness of rural enterprises and facilitating access to global markets.
  • Consolidate fair trade networks, enabling small producers to improve their incomes and connect with consumers who value social and environmental impact.

Red ADELCO’s impact is tangible, but the challenges we face require the support of strategic partners. Through Myriad, we seek to connect with donors who share our vision and want to contribute to the growth of effective solutions against illegal economies and social exclusion in rural areas.

Every investment in Local Economic Development is a commitment to peace, social justice, and sustainability. We invite Myriad donors to join our cause and be part of the transformation we are driving in Colombia.
