Founded in 2003 in New York, WINGS is the only organization of its kind awarding unrestricted funding to high-achieving women scientists and explorers making important strides in traditionally male-dominated spaces. We shine a light on their discoveries, leadership and impact, ignite interdisciplinary collaboration through our global network and forums, and support them as role models for future generations.
WINGS has awarded over 200 grants across more than 100 countries and published the original findings of some 50 women-led Flag Carrier field expeditions on land, in the sea, and in the air. Pioneers in their fields, WINGS Fellows and Flag Carriers have discovered active volcanoes and novel peptides for therapeutic development in cancer; set records for deep-sea discoveries and traversing the poles; completed the first map of the ocean, the first global survey of ocean plastic pollution, and the first successful breeding of rare/threatened coral species.
Through monthly Explorer Talks, Global Forums, and school presentations, these visionary women and their groundbreaking, solutions-oriented work have had a profoundly positive impact and are driving change toward a more prosperous, equitable and sustainable planet.
WINGS fills a critical role keeping them in the field, publishing their findings and creating opportunities for them to write history with their discoveries and ideas, while building a global community of role models reflecting the diversity of our world.
