Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) provides farming families in Central America with the training and tools to restore our planet's tropical forests while overcoming poverty.
Our programs help family farmers:
- adopt sustainable farming practices,
- enhance small businesses, and
- build self-sufficient communities.
Purpose
More than half of the world’s tropical forests are already gone and we are losing the other half at the rate of one acre every second. As a result, more than half the species of plants and animals in the world are disappearing, along with carbon stores, which stabilize the global climate.
Vision
People and the environment thriving in a healthy balance.
Did you know?
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), harmful farming practices are responsible for 90% of global deforestation. These unsustainable methods degrade soil health, reducing crop yields and food security. As productivity declines, farmers often clear and burn more forests to create new farmland—trapping them in a destructive cycle that threatens both people and the planet.
By adopting sustainable and regenerative practices, family farmers help heal the planet while feeding their communities.
Regenerative Agriculture
- restores ecosystems,
- feeds families, and
- improves livelihoods.
“I must admit that before Sustainable Harvest International, I was a destroyer of the forest. I am very regretful of this. My field trainer has taken my blindfold off and made me conscious of the importance of protecting the forest.”
— Adan Jose Rivera, SHI-Honduras farmer
