Le Secours Catholique was created in the aftermath of WWII when poverty was thriving amongst almost any kind of populations. It aims at fighting any kind of poverty whether caused by unemployment, precarious housing, family conflicts; homelessness etc. As a fundraising organization Secours Catholique has a budget of 145M euros/year, relies on more than 63.000 volunteers and has a staff of 900. It's one of the largest NGO in France. 03/2022 Update : Ukraine crisis and our emergency actions Secours Catholique - Caritas France stands with its Caritas partners to support the victims of the ukrainian conflict. As the conflict intensifies, we are committed to help civilians. 2 millions of displaced people and refugees in European countries, but also Ukrainians who have stayed behind, are in urgent need of humanitarian aid. In this crisis Secours Catholique - Caritas France will : Set up with the Ukrainian Caritas the emergency needs of the population in Ukraine - basic needs (food, health, hygiene kits, clothes, night shelters) - psychological support Set up with the border Caritas (Poland, Slovakia and Romania) for the reception of refugees - setting up of supply points - reuniting families - support for registration by local authorities - transporting women and children to reception centres or families - psychological support Set up reception and accommodation for refugee families in France (still being evaluated but will be gradually increased) -emergency accommodation in conjunction with the government and local authorities -fraternal support
