The Kyiv Independent is **Ukraine’s fastest-growing English-language media outlet**, established in November 2021, just three months before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Kyiv Independent was born out of a **fight for freedom of speech**. It was co-founded by a group of journalists who were fired from the Kyiv Post, then a prominent newspaper, as the owner attempted to take the newsroom under control and end its critical coverage of Ukrainian authorities.

Just three months after the Kyiv Independent was launched, Russia invaded Ukraine. **Our team stayed in Ukraine and kept on reporting on what was now a war against their country.**

The team’s resilience and **uncompromising reporting quickly made the Kyiv Independent a key source of news** from Ukraine for millions of people around the world.

**We vowed to serve the principles of honest journalism even during an ongoing war**. We have published investigations, including into misconduct within the Ukrainian military. It has solidified our readers’ trust in us as an independent news source. The Kyiv Independent has won multiple awards for its work.

We had to grow fast. Today, **the Kyiv Independent is a dynamic organization** producing stories, video reports, newsletters, documentaries, and more. In March 2023, we formed a separate unit within the team to investigate Russian war crimes. The team has **published nine documentaries so far, uncovered multiple war crimes, and seven international awards** for its work. 

**Unlike many news organizations, the Kyiv Independent has no single owner** or external source of financing. Instead, the majority of our funding comes directly from our readers — most of whom give just $5 a month. In 2024, 70% of our revenue was from membership and donations. 

Thanks to the support of our readers, the Kyiv Independent doesn’t need to depend on a wealthy owner — and doesn’t have a paywall. Our journalism is free and accessible to everyone, regardless of ability to pay, because we believe that everyone should have access to accurate and reliable information.

1. **We reach almost 3 million monthly readers in 2025.**  Millions of people now read the Kyiv Independent every month. Our monthly website audience grew from 13,000 readers in January 2022 to close to 3 million monthly readers in 2025.
2. **Over 30,000 stories have been published** since launching the Kyiv Independent, including daily news updates, war coverage, business, culture, and opinions.
3. **We have published more than 150 field reports**, including dozens of stories from the front lines, bringing you on-the-ground coverage from places like Avdiivka, Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, and Vovchansk.
4. **We have conducted 30 investigations**, including an award-winning investigation into alleged misconduct in Ukraine’s International Legion and leaked documents showing Russia’s plan to take over Belarus by 2030.

Our professional team of academics, guides, educators, and community leaders provide meaningful and engaging customized tours of Poland's multicultural landscape, infusing each encounter with illuminating personal stories and insights from those engaged in Polish Jewish life and committed to the preservation of Polish Jewish heritage. TJHTalks Series Having suspended our flagship program, Taube Jewish Heritage Tours, we launched TJHTalks in April 2020 as an interactive way to maintain contact with past and future tour participants and to broaden the Center's audience. Yerusha: Professional Development Program The year-long program, now in its second year, distinguishes itself from other Jewish professional development opportunities in that the operative language is Polish and all workshop facilitators are based in Poland. Resource and Educational Materials The Taube Center has developed a sophisticated set of resource materials in several languages that support our educational programs and are especially valuable for our study tour program. Our publications have been disseminated at the POLIN Museum and the Galicia Jewish Museum and through Polish embassies and cultural institutions around the world.

We are musicians from Ukraine, raising money at our concerts to support our country, our city, and our people.

**Who We Are**

KMLX began as the Philanthropic Arm of the Ukrainian musical group [Kommuna Lux](https://kommunalux.com/).  When war came to their country in 2022, these musicians soon realized they could do more good with their instruments than with guns.  They began touring Europe to support charitable causes in Odesa.  [This video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOIU5HF19XA) shows some of the ways they spent their donations that year.

That success led them to the USA, where they founded this 501-c3 nonprofit to streamline the donation process.  Soon two more music groups joined the cause, sending money to projects in Lviv and Kyiv.

99.9% of your donation goes to Ukraine.  We have no paid staff, no office, no overhead--our only "administrative costs" are for our annual business license, wire transfer fees when we send money to Ukraine, and occasional supplies. Kommuna Lux continues to explore options with the Rotary Club of Ukraine, after successfully funding the Burn Unit Beds project for hospitals at the front lines.  The project for Odesa is now halfway funded, thanks to a generous contribution by the Rotary Club of Ithaca, NY after our concert in September.

**2025 Update**:  Our success has taken a new turn!  Several other bands from Ukraine are also raising funds through KMLX!

[Vopli Vidopliassova (VV)](https://www.krainamriy.com/en/gurt-vv)--Ukraine’s legendary pioneers of punk, rock, and folk —  return to North America with a powerful 40th Anniversary Tour, using their voice not only to celebrate Ukrainian resilience, but to mobilize global solidarity. All charity efforts from the tour support[ Misto Dobra](https://misto-dobra.com.ua/en/home/) (The City of Goodness), a Ukrainian shelter offering emergency care, housing, and rehabilitation for women and children affected by war. Donations are directed through the [Kraina Mriy Foundation, ](https://www.olegskrypka.com/)founded by VV’s frontman Oleg Skrypka, one of Ukraine’s most trusted cultural and humanitarian platforms.

**Our History**

Kommuna Lux decided to tour the United States in 2023, in hopes of connecting with Americans, raising awareness and empathy for the war in Ukraine, and raising some money too.  The tour was a huge success on all fronts!  Donations were so generous that we founded this 501-c3 nonprofit for our future tours. With two US tours planned in 2024, the band felt like they could strive for something greater than the small, local Odesa projects they had always supported in the past.  They soon found a willing partner in the [Rotary E-Club of Ukraine](https://rotaryeclubukraine.org.ua/), who had numerous projects in need of funds.  The musicians decided to help supply a new type of hospital bed for victims of severe burns, to hospitals serving the front lines.  That project was funded and completed in 2025!

Now the band has chosen to support two Rotary projects dedicated to children:  [the construction of a new playground in their beloved Odesa](https://rotaryd2232ukraine.org/rcprojects/christmas24/project?prid=133), and a larger project titled "Ukrainian Children Don't Have a Stop Button: Early Intervention Services in Conflict Zones."  For every dollar donated at a Kommuna Lux concert, 30% will go directly to these Rotary projects. 

The other 70% of your donation will support our regular grassroots causes, such as food, water, and medicine to besieged cities, bomb shelters and other safety projects in our hometown of Odesa, and our direct support of the heroes at the front with gear, tools, and vehicles.

The PDMSh was founded in 2014 to provide medical aid in the areas of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and, since May 2018, the Joint Forces Operation (JFO). Before full-scale invasion of Ukraine, our volunteer medics had provided timely and qualified medical care to more than 56,000 patients. We worked at 50 locations in the east of Ukraine, including frontline hospitals, entry-exit control points (EECPs) and temporary deployment points.

Now we face greater challenges due to unprovoked and brutal invasion of our country. Since the first day of this invasion, our dedicated volunteers have been on the frontline in combat areas across the country. They selflessly risk their lives to help both civilians and combatants, the wounded and the sick.

After our active participation in the Kyiv campaign in February-April 2022, where we managed to simultaneously provide 12 ambulances and carry out thousands of trips and medical evacuations from the front line, our focus shifted to Eastern Ukraine. In May 2022, we set up medical stations in the east of Ukraine, including in Bakhmut, Sloviansk, Chasiv Yar, Kostyantynivka, Lyman, Rai Oleksandrivka and Symy (the latter three are still operating).

The big international organizations like International Red Cross (ICRC) or Doctors Without Borders (MSF) are not present due to the extreme and difficult conditions.  We are however just a volunteer organization, and we need your support now more than ever.  While working in the most difficult areas in the east of Ukraine from May 2022 to May 2024, Pirogov First Volunteer Mobile Hospital volunteers provided medical assistance to more than 47 224 patients. 

Throughout its operation, PDMSh has provided assistance to 103 224 patients.

The active areas of development of PFVMH are increasing the number of medical teams and ambulances that will work as emergency units for medical evacuations from the most difficult areas in the east. The expansion of the voluntary membership of the PFVMH will require more funds to ensure the accommodation and security of the personnel and their ability to treat wondered, which will allow us to save even more lives.

Among other necessities, there are the capability of the fast and complete maintenance of vehicles, availability of sufficient amounts of fuel, medical products, and medicines, as well as proper conditions for accommodation of volunteers and ensuring their protection.

Delivering medical aid where it's needed most — independent, neutral, impartial.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.

In over 70 countries around the world, MSF saves lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most—in armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and other crises.  The people who work for MSF are doctors, nurses, midwives, epidemiologists, water-and-sanitation experts and many others who combine their professional expertise with a commitment to the world’s most vulnerable people.  Each year, these medical teams run close to 470 projects where they care for millions of people.  

As an organization, MSF is neutral and operates independently of any political, military, or religious agendas. It does not take sides in armed conflicts, provides care based on needs alone, and advocates for increased independent access to victims of conflict and disaster as required under international humanitarian law. Medical teams conduct evaluations on the ground to determine a population's medical needs before opening programs, aiming to fill gaps that exist (rather than replicating services that are already offered) or reach communities that are not being assisted.  Over the years, the organization has been the recipient of several awards that recognize its work, including the 1998 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize, the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize, the 2012 J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding, the 2015 Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award, and the 2017 Pardes Humanitarian Prize for Mental Health.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) 

Friends of Be an Angel provides humanitarian aid & civilian evacuations for the most vulnerable in Ukraine during a time of war.

Friends of Be an Angel, together with Be an Angel and the Women's For Future organization, provide for those most in need in Ukraine during a time of war. We work with in-kind donations and humanitarian aid, then organize delivery to the most severely affected regions in Ukraine. Additionally, the team coordinates the evacuation of vulnerable people from Ukraine. So far, we have managed to provide 4,700+ tons of aid and have evacuated 18,000+ civilians.

The are nearly 6.6 millions of internally displaced persons in Ukraine and over 9 million people have crossed the Ukrainian border since Russia invaded the country. Almost 2.2 millions Ukrainian citizens had to leaved their home in eastern Ukraine. Unfortunately, they currently have no place to come home to because their houses have been destroyed. Ten percent of internally displaced persons have not gotten any assistance from the Ukrainian government. They have dire needs, especially in light of winter coming soon. At least three million families are in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions, that are occupied by the Russian troops. They have no opportunity to buy simple everyday products such as meals, hygiene products, medical supply, and more. Even a simple cold or fever could lead to death! Also, Ukrainians are facing the coldest winter in the history of independence! The room temperatures are expected to be at 13-14°C inside homes at best during winter.

The mission of Sunflower Seeds Ukraine is to save the lives and strengthen the resolve of Ukrainian Defenders by providing medical aid, protective equipment, and field gear to small groups of Defenders, and humanitarian assistance to affected civilians.

We are a 100% volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Boulder, Colorado and Rivne, Ukraine. Founded in 2022, we operate as a multinational grassroots network with direct contacts on the front lines of the war in Ukraine. By managing our own supply chain, we ensure vital aid reaches the front lines quickly and directly, getting life-saving supplies to those who need them most.

Our Core Initiatives:

Medical Aid: We supply advanced individual first aid kits, which include tourniquets, hemostatic dressings, and chest seals. We also supply lifesaving equipment for field medics and hospitals.

Protective Equipment: We provide electronic earmuffs to save hearing, drone detectors, and other protective items to small groups of defenders.

Defender Support: We provide high-quality field gear such as backpacks, sleeping mats, camelbacks, sourced from the USA and delivered to Ukraine through our logistics network.

Humanitarian Assistance: We provide summer camp tuition for children who have been displaced by war, lost a parent, or have a parent currently defending Ukraine. For these kids, camp can be a life-changing experience. We have also supported a village school by repairing the heating system, upgraded their underground shelter, and installing an air alert system - making in-person learning possible for 500 students.

Impact Highlights:

Since the beginning of the invasion in 2022, we have provided more than 12,000 Defenders with over 50,000 items of aid. The generosity of more than 2,000 donors, combined with 1,000s of volunteer hours, makes incredible things possible. Over the past year, Sunflower Seeds Ukraine has delivered more than $600,000 worth of critical aid to the front lines. These supplies have sustained Ukraine’s Defenders and supported the civilians they protect.

**Food Yoga International (FYI)** is a global nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger through **compassionate, plant-based food relief**—serving meals that nourish **body, mind, and spirit**, and protecting the dignity of every person we reach. Formerly known as **Food for Life Global**, we **rebranded in May 2024** to better reflect our “Food Yoga” philosophy: using food as a force for healing, unity, and positive transformation.

Our roots trace back to **1974 in India**, when a simple request—“no one should go hungry”—sparked a grassroots movement of volunteers serving nourishing meals to those in need. Over the following decades, that effort expanded across the world. 

In the early 1990s, the international headquarters was established in the United States to help coordinate and support the growing global network, and we were **registered as a U.S. nonprofit in 1995**. From a small team working with limited resources, we grew into an international organization connecting partners and communities around the globe.

FYI serves as the international headquarters for a network of **250+ affiliate projects in 65 countries**, delivering **over 1 million plant-based meals every day** through local community kitchens, school programs, mobile outreach, and emergency relief efforts. 

Collectively, our network has provided **over 8 billion free meals** to date—proof that consistent, compassionate action can scale into real global impact.

WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.

Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises. Applying our model of quick action, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time, WCK has served hundreds of millions nourishing meals around the world. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes with the urgency of now to start cooking meals for people in need. WCK serves comforting meals to survivors of disasters quickly by partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of local restaurants, food trucks, or kitchens. To support regional economies, WCK prioritizes purchasing local ingredients to cook with or distribute. Food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis.

Our mission is to protect LGBTQ+ youth in Poland from the harms of homelessness and refugeehood. 

The Warsaw House Foundation's mission is to protect homeless and refugee  LGBTQ+ youth in Poland and provide them with the tools they need to live independently. Our inspiration was the  Ali Forney Center  (AFC)  n NYC, which is largest organization in the world offering support to homeless LGBTQ+ youth. We are honored that Carl Siciliano, the AFC's founder is on the board of the Warsaw House Foundation and works as an advisor. We place extra attention on HIV and STI education, support and prevention with the help of board member Dr. Joanna Kubica and the Smart Life Clinic in Warsaw.  After we took in our first LGBTQ+ youth to house on February 14th, 2023  we have been flooded with calls for housing and support from young people in need.  These are Polish Trans 18 year-olds from the Polish countryside in desperate need to escape their abusive and intolerant homes, young queer people with PTSD and untreated mental illness who need housing and support immediately, LGBTQ+ refugees from Ukraine and several young gay men from Iraq who suffered torture in their homeland, were detained and imprisoned at the Polish/Belarussian border for up to two years, and are now trying to build their lives in Poland.  We are also housing and supporting young LGBTQ+ people from Uganda and Egypt,  We are raising money to support the young people under our care, to house and feed them and pay for their medical needs and courses needed for them to start an independent life,  We are also raising money to hire staff (all of WH's work is now done by volunteers), to continue the renovation of our residential building and for short term emergency rentals.  We have a committed and professional team and a well planned strategy for both emergency and long term care.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Razom, which means “together” in Ukrainian, is an organization with a singular mission: to build a more prosperous Ukraine. Razom was born out of the Revolution of Dignity in 2014. Following the unprovoked, full-scale attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Razom quickly mobilized an Emergency Response Fund focused on saving lives. Your generous contribution has allowed us to provide critical medical and humanitarian aid, support vulnerable civilians, and amplify the voices of Ukrainians during this ongoing crisis.

We were able to build up our operations in Ukraine quickly not only because we already had an established operation on the ground, but because Razom is a network of trusted  professional colleagues, classmates from high school and university, friends from kindergarten and family members. We are passionate because this is personal to us. Today, our team throughout Ukraine includes over 40 drivers, warehouse staff, accountants, logistics managers, and project coordinators.

Together we delivered hundreds of thousands tons of critical medical supplies, tens of thousands of the individual first aid kits for the soldiers, evacuated children from disability from war zone, and to provide tens of thousands of hot meals, distribute thousands of grocery packages to the elderly and disabled, evacuate critically ill patients and families from dangerous areas, support families of veterans, renovate homes for displaced families, among other initiatives.

Razom for Ukraine

Providing Ukrainians, a supply of food by partnering with local Ukrainian based organizations such as bakeries and suppliers.

Ukrainian Care Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing Ukrainians a direct supply of food and humanitarian supplies by partnering with locally based Ukrainian organizations such as bakeries and other food production facilities.

We provide nourishment to Ukrainians in need.

By preventing hunger and malnutrition, we empower Ukrainians to overcome injustice, displacement and poverty while rebuilding their lives.

Founded in March 2022 in Oregon, Ukrainian Care began as a local organization dedicated to humanitarian supply collection and shipment directly to Ukraine. 

As of today, they have collected more than 900 boxes of supplies that were shipped via air and sea freight. Those items were then distributed to Ukrainian communities by local humanitarian organizations within Ukraine.

We are currently focused on providing affected Ukrainians a direct supply of free bread.

The founder, Klavdia Ancheta Moore, is an American citizen, but grew up in Berdyansk City, Ukraine. Klavdia currently resides in Oregon and founded Ukrainian Care because of her love and dedication to her home country and its people.

The war in Ukraine has brought immense misery and suffering to the local population. Thousands have died, while countless children and women have been subjected to violence. The country's infrastructure and economy are crumbling, leaving people to face a harsh reality. Over 6 million of those affected are women, girls, and the elderly who are fleeing across borders.

The U.S. government has created the Unite for Ukraine program, which allows any American citizen or green card holder to sponsor and rescue Ukrainian citizens by inviting them to the United States. The program provides each Ukrainian who arrives with a work permit, health insurance, and minimal food assistance.

However, since the Unite for Ukraine program is relatively new, it can take up to 3 to 9 months for these benefits to be provided. Ukrainian refugees not only need to find sponsors to bring them to the U.S. but also require help in bridging the gap until the program's benefits become available.

We take no political stand on the situation. Our concern is the ordinary people affected by the conflict.

Our two main programs cover the following:

1. Providing financial assistance to refugees displaced by the war currently living in various countries.
2. Providing refugees the ability to come to the United States under the "Unite For Ukraine" program.

IILA provides transformative services for refugees, immigrants, survivors of human trafficking, & families in the greater LA area

The International Institute of Los Angeles (IILA) began in 1914 as a response to the needs of women and girls immigrating from Europe and East Asia in adjusting to their new lives in Los Angeles.  Our founding was part of the larger revolutionary vision of a social welfare worker named Edith Terry Bremer, who established the first International Institute in New York in 1910. The **International Institute movement** was unique for its time in its philosophy and approach to this work. It **embraced cultural pluralism by celebrating ethnic diversity** and encouraging immigrants to maintain their native languages, traditions and folk cultures, while also becoming engaged US citizens who contribute to their communities. 

**IILA has played a prominent role in every major refugee and immigrant wave since its founding.** For over a century, we have offered a wide range of services to assist limited-English proficient and low-income individuals achieve self-sufficiency and thrive. Over time, we also **expanded our services** to include a wide array of legal assistance, resettlement of refugees and asylum applicants, survivors of human trafficking, and free or low-cost child care and transportation. We employ over 150 people in 13 locations in Los Angeles County and have a budget of over 20 million dollars. We also have a long history of employing newcomers, who serve as valuable team members who can provide culturally sensitive assistance to those in need.

Our **commitment to upholding the dignity and supporting the self-sufficiency of refugees and immigrants** is as unwavering today as it was at our founding.  We know that new arrivals bring a vibrancy and richness, as well as economic strength, to Southern California and the wider United States that is vital for our continued growth and success.

Emile Foundation (formerly Orphans Feeding Foundation) was founded in the Netherlands, with a primary goal to support orphans and vulnerable communities in Western Kenya, who had to fight poverty, hunger and corruption to survive. Over the past decade, the organization has provided medicine and food to various orphanages in Asia and Africa, raised funds to fight against hunger and poverty in Europe, and built schools in various remote locations of Africa.

In February 2022, as the full-scale war on Ukraine broke out, the foundation activated its network of government members, ambassadors, pharmaceutical companies and logistics providers to deliver - in person - emergency humanitarian relief to the civilians and hospitals all along the front line, from Kharkiv to Kherson. Over the next 2 years, more than 150 tons of food, medicine, generators, stoves and warm winter clothes were personally delivered to hospitals and civilians in need, oftentimes under constant shelling.

Since May 2023, Emile Foundation works under a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Presidential Office of Ukraine to support the return of the thousands deported children through their Bring Kids Back UA program.

Thousands of children are known to have been illegally deported away from their homes in Ukraine. And thousands more are still missing! According to the Ukrainian authorities, 19,546 Ukrainian children have been identified as illegally displaced. But this number is very likely much higher, as it is impossible to know exactly what happens beyond the front line. The opposition even claims to have “saved” 744,000 Ukrainian children from the war, while the Yale Institute estimates the number to be between 200,000 and 300,000.

In the past few months, Emile Foundation has been able to successfully return 48 children from Russian deportation. And we are in a position to return many more with your help!

We use magic to create a just world full of possibility in communities worldwide. Entertaining, Educating and Empowering.

We believe that learning, practicing, and performing magic transform at-risk youth’s lives by awakening dreams and the hope that the impossible is possible. 

I the past year we have visited Ukraine in three ocations and have created our education chapter there, in Lviv.

We created a unique long-term education program that increases a child’s self-confidence, discipline, focus, and self-esteem. This allows them to raise themselves out of poverty and enthusiastically create a hopeful future. 
	
This program is implemented in the slums of big cities. Mainly in Latin America: Bogotá, Medellín, Barranca de Upía (Colombia), Curridabat (Costa Rica) Ahuachapan, Santa Ana, San Salvador (El Salvador) , India (Mumbai), Cape Town (South Africa) and the United States. The magic classes of 10-20 children meet weekly to learn, practice and eventually perform magic. These classes continue for at least a year; some have been going on for as long as seven years. 

We also give them entrepreneurial skills training so that they can sell magic services to gain extra income.

Since 2002, Magicians Without Borders has traveled to over thirty countries using magic to entertain, educate and empower. By UN estimates we have entertained over 500,000 of the most forgotten people in the world –mostly refugees and orphans living in desperate, difficult and often war torn parts of the world. Detailed accounts of this work can be found on our Our Travels page. We are also educating children in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Mumbai, India and Bogata, Colombia to become magicians. As they study magic, they develop self-confidence, self-esteem, discipline, focus and a sense of personal power. We have also established a Scholarship fund to empower these children to finish High School and go on to college, nursing school, and culinary school.

Humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable people in Ukraine​ 


We are all following the news - the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military is creating one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world, with millions of people in need of food, shelter, and emergency assistance.  In consultation with local partners, the King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS) launched a Humanitarian Response Fund for Ukraine. The fund is pooling contributions, to be distributed to three local nonprofits working on the frontlines - Caritas Ukraine, People in Need Ukraine, and the Polish Red Cross.     These three organizations work hard to provide food, shelter and medical assistance to vulnerable individuals across Ukraine and to the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians who are seeking refuge across borders. People in Need - Ukraine https://www.peopleinneed.net/ Established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents, People in Need is one of the biggest nonprofit organizations in Central Europe. Its core focus is on humanitarian assistance, based on the ideals of humanism, freedom, equality, and solidarity. Its local team is now working out of Lviv in western Ukraine, where the situation is deteriorating rapidly. They arrange for convoys of trucks loaded with humanitarian aid - food, hygiene items, diapers, sleeping bags, mats, and other goods - to assist the hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people flocking to the city and provide support to those waiting for safe crossing into the Slovak Republic. With more than 40 local organizations in 20 regions of Ukraine, Caritas Ukraine is dedicated to assisting vulnerable persons affected by traumatic events—regardless of age, sex, nationality, religious or political beliefs. Since 2014, following Russia's annexation of Crimea, Caritas Ukraine has been providing humanitarian assistance to hundreds of thousands of  survivors of hostilities in Ukraine, especially vulnerable groups -children, single parents, people living with disability, and the elderly. Caritas Ukraine is currently providing food, clean water, shelter and hygiene kits across Ukraine and at Ukrainian borders. Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine, hundreds of thousands of people have crossed the Polish border – mainly women and children seeking shelter. The Polish Red Cross is providing food, shelter and medical assistance to Ukrainian refugees arriving in Poland. Volunteers and employees of the Polish Red Cross organize reception points along the Polish-Ukrainian border and are also present at railway stations in various cities across Poland. Humanitarian Response Fund for Ukraine

The ICMU is supporting top-level research in mathematics, with emphasis on training younger generations of scientists in Ukraine.

Believing firmly that science and research will play a key role in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war, a group of mathematicians of Ukrainian origin is founding a new center for mathematical research. The project was officially launched in January 2023 during an event organized by the Institut des hautes études scientifiques (IHÉS) near Paris. Governed by a prominent Scientific Board, ICMU will be flexible in choosing its activities to achieve maximal impact for the mathematical community.

The mission of ICMU is to support top-level research in mathematics, with special emphasis on training younger generations of scientists and the development of mathematics in Ukraine. At the beginning, the major regular activity of ICMU will be running thematic programs lasting from a month to a full semester. Proposals for programs in all areas of mathematics will be welcome, with some priority given to topics in which there is strong representation within Ukraine. These programs will include a range of activities, such as lecture series by distinguished visitors, weekly seminars, conferences, workshops and summer/winter schools for students. In the future, we will consider developing a foundation for long-term visiting fellowships and permanent chairs. ICMU will also develop outreach activities for school children and the general public.

We empower refugees by helping them reclaim access to education, develop modern media skills, and pursue professional employment.

At ReFOCUS Media Labs, our mission is to empower asylum seekers and refugees by equipping them with modern media skills to overcome the challenges they face, such as limited access to education, language barriers, financial constraints, mental health support, skills training and job placement.

Through our three Media Labs (Lesvos, Athens, Krakow) workshops and original content productions on location (Amsterdam, Berlin, Athens, Krakow) we provide comprehensive education in photography, filmmaking, audio engineering, and graphic design. Moreover, we actively collaborate with our students in the production of impactful dramatic films and documentaries.

Established in 2017 in Lesvos, Greece as a pilot project when we supported the residents of the infamous Moria refugee camp. in 2019 we officially registered ReFOCUS Media Labs as a foundation in Poland, and started formalizing our work. In 2022 we expanded our efforts by adding new media labs in Athens (GR) and Krakow (PL).  Athens was established to support refugees who struggled to secure access to education and job placement in the Greek system, and Krakow was created to support the massive influx of Ukrainian refugees who fled to Poland after the full-scale Russian invasion. Our work throughout our global network of media creation labs demonstrates our commitment to empowering our community members, and ensuring they have a seat at the table in determining our present and future direction. 

Our mission is to transform lives through education, career training, and psychosocial support, and ultimately sustainable employment. 

In Greece, we primarily work with minors and young adults, who are either stuck in the asylum system or struggling to integrate after receiving minimal asylum protection.  In Poland, our focus groups are women and young adults who fled the war, and now put down roots in Poland.  A key highlight of our training is the creation of professional portfolios, an essential tool that enables our beneficiaries to effectively showcase themselves to potential employers. This part of our program is particularly important as many refugees arriving in Europe have faced educational disparities due to conflict, poverty or discrimination in their home countries. Even those who have a university degree often struggle to be recognized in Europe as education systems in their home countries often fail to meet EU standards. As a result, many higher education graduates are forced to adapt and accept employment well below their skill and education level. In most cases this leads to exploitation on the European labor market.

Our programming aims to break the cycle of disadvantage that refugees and asylum seekers encounter in the labor market. By providing a platform for our students to showcase their original work, share their stories, and employ them as teachers, lab coordinators and co-creators we empower them to become skilled professionals within the global media industry. But our work goes beyond the technical training by providing foundational support and safe spaces for people with refugee backgrounds to be accepted and flourish. Put simply, we treat the whole human being. 

Since our establishment in 2017, we have successfully certified hundreds of media students, produced feature films and music videos; internationally published original photography and graphic design, and collaborated with mainstream media partners on investigative reportage.

We've been featured in National Geographic, collaborated on investigative reports with Forensic Architecture, Human Rights Watch, BBC Newsnight, Aljazeera, the Guardian, and BBC Panorama, and also produce our own original podcast "Fractured", which focuses upon refugee issues and human rights violations in Europe and around the world.

What sets ReFOCUS apart is our dedication to mentoring students beyond the traditional classroom setting. We actively collaborate with our students to create compelling films and documentaries based on their own scripts and concepts. Since 2019 ReFOCUS has produced several films directed, filmed and edited by our students and alumni including  “Even After Death”, “Nothing About Us Without Us”, “Dancing Bells”, “Dead End”, Interview" and "Erantzun", all of which were written and directed by community members. 

“Stitches” - our latest film is currently in post production and will premiere in March 2024 at Movies that Matter Film Festival. Our films and work has been internationally recognised and showcased at prestigious film festivals worldwide, including the Human Rights Film Festival Berlin (DE), Movies that Matter Film Festival (Hague, NL), CPH:DOX (Copenhagen, DK), Melbourne International Film Festival (AU), Rotterdam International Film Festival (NL), IDFA (Amsterdam, NL), New Delhi International Film Festival (India), the World International Film Festival (Amsterdam, NL), and the (in)Justice Film Festival (Chicago, US) and many more. 

In recent years we have expanded to reach larger audiences and provide even more community members with employment and pathways to develop their own careers as freelance media creators. We also take a local approach to ensure the settled communities we work with have foundational support. A great example of this local approach is our Art Under Pressure Arts Festival, which was inaugurated in Athens, Greece (May 2023). The festival provided a platform for artists from Athens, both from within our community and the greater cultural community, to showcase their music, art, performance, design, photography, films and critical reportage on issues the community faces. In 2024 the festival will travel throughout Europe and North America in an effort to activate new local communities of artist who can learn from one another and create together. 

At the heart of our organization is a fundamental belief that individuals can make a difference in the issues they see in the world. Our extensive experience in the field working on the front line of the "refugee crisis" in Europe proves that civil actions can have a massive impact in the lives of people at risk, especially when media and governments claim otherwise. These challenges are not intractable, rather they are opportunities for us to think creatively, and work collectively to ensure we build the societies we know are possible. 

And so we remain committed to helping people with real lives in crisis develop the real skills needed to pursue the real futures they envision. No matter how many times the fast news frames people in need as "takers" and "burdens", we are proving every day that it is possible to cultivate givers who enhance and power our society into the future.

BEforUkraine is a non-profit with the mission to help the people of Ukraine in the most effective way.

BEforUkraine is a citizens’ initiative to help Ukraine 

Launched in March 2022 by a group of friends and entrepreneurs appalled by the war in Ukraine. The initial mission was to bring medical & technical equipment and to help Ukrainian refugees. 

In March 2022 we facilitated the arrival in Belgium of 240 Ukrainian refugees, mainly women, and children. We identified, vetted, and matched host families for the refugees. 

As of today, we successfully purchased and transported 68 ambulances and 2 school buses to Ukraine. 

The ambulances are converted into mobile hospitals.  

We are now raising funds to buy another school bus. More than 2000 schools (incl the school buses) have been destroyed by the war. This project was founded and is led by high school students because they believe that every child deserves the right to education. UC Berkeley-KTH Summer research internship program – this is a unique opportunity to support the development of a program for students at Bachelor's and Master's levels under a recently signed agreement for collaboration between UC Berkeley and KTH. A handful of students per year will be traveling in each direction, the first group of students in the summer of 2024. Each student will be working on a research project under the supervision of a faculty member.

With missiles hitting the city daily, he doesn't have time to apply for a project grant! He's literally hands-on saving lives every day. He needs tourniquets and Israeli bandages. His option is to use his own savings, or borrow from friends. Planet Humana stepped in to provide a cash grant to purchase those items, and to keep him and his crew and cars mobile.

Planet Humana draws its funds from a small circle of high wealth individuals. We outsource almost all our administration. We are growth-limited, with a view to maximising the flow of funds straight to where it makes the biggest difference. We're hands-on, and boots-on-the-ground.

In 2011 a University of Texas at Arlington study abroad trip to Eastern Europe birthed a deep desire in team members to help children in area orphanages. After meeting some family members of the largest Eastern European family, with over 50 adopted children, several conversations between Chris Burgin, Founder and CEO, Dr. Tatiana Baeva, Director of International Relations, and others led them to seek ways to render change. They set out to encourage and empower Eastern European university students to help orphans develop life skills in order to escape the poverty and hopelessness that awaits them.

In-country university students are uniquely positioned to reach the younger generation. Allies trains and invests in teams of university students to work with local orphanages. As mentors, these students build relational bridges, model the character of Christ and teach life skills to the orphans. Rondine Cittadella della Pace is an international organization dedicated to promoting peace and dialogue through educational and cultural initiatives. Founded in 1997 in the town of Arezzo, Italy, the organization focuses on empowering young people from conflict zones worldwide by offering them trasformative experiences that foster mutual understanding, leadership, and conflict resolution skills. The mission of Rondine is to prevent future conflicts and build a culture of peace by training a new generation of leaders who will promote intercultural dialogue and peaceful coexistence in their home countries. The organization's activities aim to create long-term peace by addressing the root causes of conflict, such as intolerance, lack of understanding, and cultural divisions.

**1. World House**

The **World House** is Rondine’s most significant initiative. It serves as a residential community where young people from areas of conflict live together for 18 months, studying, sharing experiences, and engaging in personal growth. The project brings together students from opposite sides of conflicts—such as Israelis and Palestinians, or young people from the Caucasus and Africa—who would otherwise never meet. The goal is to create a space for mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence. Participants undergo training in conflict resolution, leadership, and intercultural dialogue, with the aim of preparing them to return to their communities as ambassadors of peace. This initiative represents a microcosm of the organization's broader goal: to change the culture of conflict into one of collaboration and understanding.

**2. Quarto Anno**

The **Quarto Anno** program is a special initiative for **Italian high school students**. It offers a year-long opportunity for students in their fourth year of high school to live and study in an international, intercultural environment. The program focuses on the development of leadership skills, critical thinking, and conflict resolution, with a specific focus on building peace and understanding. Students participating in Quarto Anno engage in both academic studies and practical activities that encourage them to work across cultural and national divides. This initiative fosters a deeper awareness of global issues, especially conflicts, and trains students to become future leaders who are equipped to handle challenges in a peaceful and constructive way. Quarto Anno also involves direct interaction with students from diverse backgrounds, allowing participants to practice and apply what they have learned in real-world scenarios.

**3. Sezione Rondine**

The **Sezione Rondine** project aims to bring the **Quarto Anno** experience to other **Italian high schools** across the country. This initiative extends Rondine's peace-building programs to schools beyond its main campus in Arezzo, allowing students from various regions of Italy to participate in the Quarto Anno’s trasformative year-long peace and leadership training. In this decentralized model, Rondine collaborates with high schools to offer students the opportunity to engage in the same curriculum of conflict resolution, intercultural dialogue, and leadership development that is central to the Quarto Anno program. Students in Sezione Rondine receive the same educational experiences as those at Rondine’s central location, empowering them to become active peace builders in their own communities while forming a network of young leaders across Italy who are committed to building a more peaceful society.

**4. Leaders for Peace**

In December 2018, seventy years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and a century after the end of the First World War, Rondine’s students and alumni launched an Appeal to the entire world to take a first step towards decisive, positive shift concerning human rights at the global level. With the “Leaders for Peace” campaign, Rondine asks each of the 193 Member States to devote a symbolic sum from its defense budget to the training of as many young, global peace leaders. These new leaders will be able to intervene in the world’s most complex conflict scenarios, promoting the development of pacified social and political relations. Rondine also asks each UN Member State to consider including education on human rights in national education systems, integrating it with the Rondine Method for the creative transformation of conflicts. The objective is the gradual extinction of war contexts from the world through the affirmation of a new culture capable of unmasking the false concept of enemy, and of spreading among all citizens the skills to positively transform conflicts by integrating the teaching of the Rondine Method with human rights.

Rondine Cittadella della Pace, through these initiatives, addresses the critical need for education, dialogue, and leadership development in conflict regions. The organization’s projects aim not only to provide young people with the tools they need to become effective peace builders but also to change the broader narrative around conflict, promoting cooperation over division and dialogue over violence. Through its educational programs, Rondine continues to build a global community committed to fostering lasting peace.

Doctors with Africa CUAMM works to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities in Africa 

WHO WE ARE 
	Doctors with Africa CUAMM is the biggest Italian organization for the 
	 promotion of health among African populations . CUAMM implements long-term projects to improve access to health services, especially for women, girls, children and marginalized people. We operates in 8 sub-Saharan African countries ( Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania,Uganda and Central African Republic ) at hospitals, health centers and community level with more than 2,000 workers. AN INTEGRATED LOGISTICAL-MEDICAL INTERVENTION IN CHERNIVETSKA AND TERNOPILSKA OBLASTS Overview As a consequence of the ongoing armed violence and rapidly deteriorating security environment in most parts of Ukraine, over 18 million people have been affected by the conflict and 6 million of them are in urgent need of humanitarian support (Ukraine PHSA-Short Form, 3/3/2022), where the population most represented are women, children, older people, persons with disabilities, and ethnic minorities. Description Before the conflict, the procurement and supply of medicines, especially specialized drugs , was centralized in Kiev. With the conflict the all supply chain has been interrupted and most of the region of Ukraine have been left without stocks of drugs, consumables and medical supplies. In this crisis, the three main health risks that need to be addressed, identified by WHO, are Non-Communicable Disease (NCDs) being the leading cause of death in Ukraine (death occurring before the age of 70 years) even before the conflict; HIV-TB (with among the highest rate in Europe) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), since all of them foresee a strong retention into treatment. The conflict has disrupted many distributors which became non-operational, hampering the supply chains for medicines and medical supplies (especially procurement and distribution of medicines, of diagnostic materials and of treatments). For this reason, many people fail to remain retained into treatment, especially those with chronic medical conditions (both communicable and not communicable) such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer. Key attention must then be given to the health of people with disabilities and older persons (more than 60 years old) more prone to both NCDs and infectious diseases Objective CUAMM's intervention, based on its needs assessments, will mainly focus on health-related logistics activities (aimed at immediately procuring and delivering life-saving medicines) but also with the additional component of ensuring mobile health clinics in 2 targeted oblasts (Chernivetska and Ternopilska), with the final goal of ensuring access to PHC to the population residing in the most remote areas, as well as identifying severe cases to be promptly referred to a higher level of care. Černivici is currently accessible only via the Romanian border (Siret) due to attacks reported the Ivano-Frankivs'k area is isolated from the polish border. For this reason the project will ensure international quality procurement of medicines and supplies, delivered them to Černivici via Siret. Outputs 1) Provide essential and specialized medicines and supply to Ukrainian hospitals;  2) strengthening the medicines and medical supply of VRB hub, a Ukrainian community-based organization called Volonterskiy ruh Bukovyny   in Černivci and its distribution capacity;  3) Organize mobile clinics in the Chernivetska and Ternopilska Oblasts
