Restaurant Organizing Collective (ROC-DC)
ROC-DC is building power with restaurant workers in DC to create a more just, dignified and equitable restaurant industry.
Background
ROC-DC has been building power with restaurant workers since 2009. We are a small worker-led organization that utilizes base-building, organizing and worker-led advocacy to move our mission forward. We have a strong focus on community building and leadership development to strengthen our ability as a restaurant worker community to make the changes we want to see in our industry and in DC. ROC-DC is fully independent organization from ROC-United (circa June 2024).
Addressing the Current Moment
ROC-DC has been specifically equipped to support workers during crises, and have provided systems of support, training and mutual aid during the threats of Trump's first presidency, during the COVID-19 pandemic and currently under the federal occupation of Washington, DC that is putting so many of our members and restaurant workers at risk. ROC-DC has not only been providing necessary mutual aid support to our members, but also building out systems where workers can support one another during this time. We have provided comprehensive resources to restaurant owners/management supported members with creating Emergency Family Plans and provided ongoing community & healing spaces to share resources and stay in community during such a stressful and isolating time.

Restaurant Worker Mutual Aid Fund!
Restaurant workers have faced numerous hardships over the past year and are many workers are still struggling to make ends meet and support their families. ROC-DC has launched a Mutual Aid fund for restaurant workers who need additional cash support at this time. Please consider donating to directly support workers! 100% of these donations go to our mutual aid fund and will be distributed to DMV restaurant workers in need.

EXPO Zine
EXPO is a print publication for restaurant workers, by restaurant workers, about life in the service industry, based in DC and focused on the surrounding DMV area. Tens of thousands of people work in the restaurant industry in DC, yet our voices are rarely heard. We are particularly vulnerable to exploitation, as 20% are immigrants, 17% live below the poverty line, and less than 2% are unionized. Our opponents — restaurant owners and their profit interests — have hundreds of millions of dollars to pour into suppressing worker rights. Most of us make less than the minimum wage. EXPO will be sold directly in local shops, bookstores, and online. In order to maximize outreach to workers, we need your help! Through the generous donations of our friends and allies, we can expand our reach to workers themselves. Donate now to support EXPO and our fight to represent our own voices!
