A Story About Our "Why"

In January 2023, 14-month-old Virgil VanKleek was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. While Virgil is now cancer-free, the toll on his family was overwhelming—physically, emotionally, and financially. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, the Jose Wejebe Memorial Foundation was able to give the VanKleek family eight days in the Florida Keys filled with joy, adventure, and healing. From fishing and snorkeling to exploring coral farms, encountering marine life, and fulfilling his mother, Amanda’s, lifelong dream of swimming with dolphins, the family experienced hope and happiness they never thought possible.

From cooking their own catch to learning about conservation, the boys experienced what it means to be cared for and supported, often for the first time.
