The Call

Imagine a world where villages are resilient, self-sustaining, and deeply connected to the land. This vision drives our work at the IDEP Foundation. Since 1999, we’ve been transforming communities across Indonesia, helping them stand strong against economic, environmental, and social challenges. From the islands of Indonesia to countries like Pakistan and the Philippines, IDEP’s proven approach strengthens local communities through Permaculture-based resilience.

Today, our mission is more critical than ever. Through our Strategic Plan, we’re developing Resilient Villages—holistic, sustainable communities equipped to protect their environment, preserve their culture, and secure livelihoods for generations to come—in six critical areas:

  1. Economic Stability: We boost local income, reduce household costs, and champion diverse economic opportunities that sustain families.
  2. Environmental Stewardship: From fighting deforestation to managing water resources, we work with communities to protect the ecosystems they rely on.
  3. Social & Cultural Empowerment: We strengthen community bonds, preserve cultural heritage, and support local leadership.
  4. Disaster Preparedness: We equip villages to anticipate, withstand, and recover from natural disasters, minimizing loss and speeding recovery.
  5. Education for Resilience: We enrich education with environmental and disaster preparedness skills that empower the next generation.
  6. Public Health & Well-being: We improve community health through access to healthcare and preventive health education.

Our Resilient Village model uses Permaculture zoning to guide change from within, starting at the family level and scaling across the village. Every initiative is evaluated at three levels—Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced—ensuring each community moves toward lasting, sustainable resilience.

Widespread flooding in Bali leaves thousands of families stranded and in urgent need of aid.

Bali Flood Emergency: Urgent Help Needed for Communities!

Heavy rains that lasted almost non-stop on September 9–10, 2025 triggered massive flooding across Bali, causing widespread devastation. The extreme downpour, accompanied by strong winds and lightning, was influenced by the active equatorial Rossby wave, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), which intensified the formation of heavy rain clouds. Although the rain eased on September 11, many areas remain submerged, with severe damage and casualties reported. The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Bali and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) have declared a seven-day state of emergency. Flooding has struck six major districts and cities—Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, Jembrana, Klungkung, and Tabanan. According to BNPB, at least 120 flood points have been recorded, with Denpasar being the worst affected. Thousands of homes are inundated, daily activities have come to a standstill, major roads are cut off, and markets as well as public facilities are heavily impacted. So far, at least 18 people have lost their lives, 5 are still missing, and 562 residents have been forced to evacuate to temporary shelters. Thousands more remain trapped in damaged or waterlogged homes. Conditions in the shelters are dire, with urgent shortages of food, clean water, healthcare, and psychosocial support. Search and rescue teams, volunteers, government bodies, and humanitarian organizations are working tirelessly to carry out evacuations, search for victims, and distribute emergency relief. Yet the needs remain far greater than what is currently available, especially for children, the elderly, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups. Your donation will directly help provide: Food and Clean Water for affected families. Shelter Supplies : sleeping mats and blankets. Health Support : medicines and emergency medical care. Household Essentials : cooking and cleaning supplies. Children’s Needs : school supplies and learning materials. Bali urgently needs our solidarity. With your support, families will gain access to life-saving supplies and safe shelter during this critical time. Together, we can bring hope and relief to survivors of the Bali floods.
