The Earthquake and Its Impact

On August 15, 2026, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. As of August 19, 68 people have lost their lives, homes and public facilities have been damaged, and thousands of people have been displaced across several districts.

Aftershocks continue, while landslides, damaged roads, power outages, and disrupted communications are making it difficult for some communities to access essential assistance.

For families who have lost their homes, the emergency is far from over.

Many are sleeping in temporary evacuation sites. Children, older people, and families with young children are facing shortages of food, clean water, shelter, medicines, lighting, and other basic necessities. In some affected communities, electricity remains unavailable or unreliable, while access to medical care and essential supplies is still limited.
