A conductor invited refugees who’d never played instruments to join his orchestra. It changed his life

Dream Orchestra offers an open and creative space, promoting democratic participation in high-quality music education, where children and young people from Sweden, refugees and migrants from more than 25 different countries equally, become protagonists in celebrating their traditions together. Our goal is to positively influence their human development, offering a safe and joyful environment where they can obtain tools to express themselves, where mutual understanding is strengthened and their sense of self-worth and - esteem is empowered.

Inviting children, young people and their families from all levels of society, to learn to play an instrument in the context of the symphonic orchestra, presents an effective tool to foster social inclusion and peaceful coexistence.In a Dream Orchestra rehearsal you can hear more than 18 languages together.

DO’s learning model strives for excellence and doesn’t exclude anyone, as everyone brings its best to the orchestra and finds their place to add up and share.

Here you learn about music of the world, about the beauty and complexity of musical art and you experience the joy of achieving artistic results with teamwork, love, passion and solidarity.

Guided by its core values and its own safeguarding policy, the staff, teachers and volunteers focus on respecting students' individual rights and guarding their integrity.

The social and emotional impact of this activity in the lives of the children and young people who participate, contributes to better health conditions and gives them new perspectives for the future.

DO receives new students almost every week, not only from Gothenburg but also from surrounding cities. Families make new friends and broaden their social network when participating as volunteers in logistical or social activities. Dream Orchestra also supports training teachers in refugee camps and in countries like Ukraine.
