Dear Friend Of Blue Dragon, You may have heard that Vietnam has been pounded by some heavy storms recently. The latest, Bualoi, brought yet more torrential rains and winds of over 100 kilometres per hour.  In rural Nghe An Province, which is still recovering from the impacts of Tropical Storms Wipha in July and Kajiki in August, rivers have burst their banks, causing floodwaters to rise through towns and villages. Landslides continue to destroy homes and lives. The water levels in Hanoi’s Red River are also rising rapidly. Families living around the river are being evacuated. As we do in any emergency, Blue Dragon has switched into crisis mode to get children and families to safety. We've moved 54 people into short-term accommodation away from flood zones and the kitchen at the Blue Dragon center is fully focused on preparing meals for families who are unable to cook. Help people who have lost everything: $20 gives a packet of emergency food for a family in need. $50 provides pots, pans, bedding and other basics for a family. $1,000 pays for a family’s house to be repaired.

Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to hit Vietnam in 30 years, took a devastating toll on the lives of millions of Vietnamese people. After Typhoon Yagi hit, torrential rains, floods, and landslides destroyed many houses in Ha Giang and Dien Bien provinces. These provinces are located in the northern area of Vietnam and are on the front line of climate change, experiencing more severe wet seasons that cause major floods and landslides. In Hanoi, the typhoon and subsequent release of water from hydropower plants caused rivers to rise quickly. Many families and children Blue Dragon supports in Hanoi live on boats or in slum areas along the Red River. These people, highly vulnerable to natural disasters, have lost their homes and belongings. Blue Dragon is coordinating a direct response to Typhoon Yagi. Our frontline workers in Hanoi, Ha Giang, and Dien Bien are working around the clock to deliver aid to those who need it most. Any funds remaining after Blue Dragon has distributed emergency aid will be used to rebuild homes and get families back on their feet. Here're how you can help: $20 will purchase a packet of food for a family. $30 will give emergency shelter for a week. $50 gives a week of food and shelter through the crisis. $100 buys essential household supplies for a family to get back on their feet. $600 supports one family repairing or rebuilding cattle sheds and pigsty. $1,600 supports one family to repair houses.
