Experimental Theater Social Artistic Laboratory

We are a space of itinerant, artivist, and collective creation social theater, residing in the occupied territory of the Nacotchtank and Piscataway peoples who are future, present and past in this territory (the DMV area - Washington DC , Maryland and Virginia).

We consider and approach theatrical art, sociodrama, music, the body and performance, from a liberating and transformative role, through a decolonial and abolitionist perspective (anti-racist, anti-extractivist, anti-classist, anti-patriarchal), facing the social realities of our communities and their struggles for land and territory. In our collective, community organization and art as a means of expression and social denunciation prevail over the vision of the arts as spectacle and entertainment.

-- (ENG) Experimental Theater Social Artistic Laboratory We are an itinerant social theater space, artivist, and of collective creation, residing in the occupied territory of the Nacotchtank/Piscataway peoples, who are future, present and past in this territory (the DMV area - Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia). We unite, collaborate and share, to create community-artistic spaces of collective creation, co-learning and reflection; we exist to be a safe, organizational and cultural space, intended to serve the communities and their needs, through popular education and theatrical experiences to transform the historical and present wounds of oppression, in repair and healing, sharing from solidarity, different artivist forms of community organization. For this reason, each season we open calls and invite people from the immigrant community, the working class, activists and community organizers to join our theatrical workshop, laboratory and popular education spaces. We are here to promote and provide spaces to cultivate a culture of artistic expression, mobilization and resistance that seeks to dismantle systems that oppress, constrict and separate our communities. Fostering, together and in constant growth, artistic and educational spaces aimed at the liberation of all.

Recovering funds from extra expenses

(Spanish below) Hello! Thank you for participating in the Theatre of the Oppressed intensive workshop, facilitated by Amanda Nolasco and Geo Britto, who visited us from Brazil to share theatrical tools for community organizing. If you didn´t participate on this workshop but you support this efforts your donation is greatly appreciated it. From the TELAS team we seek to open accessible spaces to the entire community, so we make sure to have food, child care and interpretation in the space. In this effort we have exceeded the budget that we had planned for this intensive workshop, we appreciate any contribution you can make to recover the funds and continue mobilizing our next projects. -- Hola!
