The Society for Poor People Development (SPPD) is a grassroots, community-driven nonprofit based in Tamil Nadu, India, working since 1993 to uplift the most vulnerable populations—including underprivileged children, women, youth, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and smallholder farmers.

Our vision is to build a secure, inclusive, and sustainable society, where every individual—regardless of their socio-economic background—has access to education, health, dignity, and livelihood opportunities.

Our Reach & Impact

Over the years, SPPD has emerged as a trusted development partner with measurable impact:

  • 25,000+ children supported through education and development programs
  • 50,000+ women empowered through Self-Help Groups and livelihoods
  • 15,000+ youth trained in skills and employability
  • 10,000+ farmers engaged in sustainable agriculture initiatives
  • 40,000+ individuals reached through environmental and climate action
  • 25,000+ families supported with health and nutrition interventions

We operate across multiple districts in Tamil Nadu, focusing on rural and underserved communities.

Food Security-No Hunger-Give 1300 Children Nutrition Kits

SPPD has been involved in child and women empowerment activities since its inception in the year 1995. The children belonging to the project villages of Tiruchirappalli and Pudukkottai districts mostly are the kids of daily wagers and other unorganized sectors like hawkers and road side vendors. There has been a spurt in social evils such as child labour and child marriages in some parts of the working areas of SPPD due to the pandemic situation. And as these negative fallouts of the pandemic such as serious drop in livelihoods and massive inflationary trends have been seriously drying up the purchasing power of the underprivileged such as the rural communities here. The nutrition kits are distributed periodically every month to children whom suffer through the consequences of malnourishment and nutritional imbalance, this is issue is faced by a large population of children. In such circumstances these nutritious food kits have been going a long way in keeping the physical and mental health of the children.
