SisterSong is a Southern based, national membership organization; our purpose is to build an effective network of individuals and organizations to improve institutional policies and systems that impact the reproductive lives of marginalized communities.

SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective was formed in 1997 by 16 organizations of women of color from four mini-communities (Native American, African American, Latina, and Asian American) who recognized that we have the right and responsibility to represent ourselves and our communities, and the equally compelling need to advance the perspectives and needs of women of color.

Support Repro Justice in the South

Sister Song has been leading the fight for reproductive justice for Black women, Indigenous women and women of color in the South for almost 30 years. With abortion bans robbing women of their bodily autonomy across the United States, Sister Song's work has become more urgent than ever. Black women already faced terrifying disparate maternal health outcomes prior to the Dobbs decision. In the 3 years since, health inequality in this country has only gotten deadlier. I am not a Black woman and I am not from the South, but I know that if Sister Song thrives, so will I. True justice strengthens the health, autonomy, and dignity of entire communities including my own. When Black women, who have long been at the forefront of this movement, gain greater freedom and access, we will have created a world that expands rights, safety, and equity for everyone. Like Fannie Lou Hamer, a brilliant Black Southern female organizer said, "Nobody's free until everybody's free."

Support Repro Justice for My Birthday

Sister Song has been a fierce defender of reproductive justice and women’s health in the South. As the right continues their assault on bodily autonomy and women’s rights, Sister Song’s work remains as important as ever. We all deserve access to healthcare. We all deserve the chance to flourish and thrive. SisterSong is a Southern based, national membership organization; our purpose is to build an effective network of individuals and organizations to improve institutional policies and systems that impact the reproductive lives of marginalized communities.
