Pronatura’s mission is to conserve the flora, fauna, and priority ecosystems of the Yucatán Peninsula, promoting a harmonious development with nature. Operating in Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, our goals include conserving biodiversity, integrating environmental policies, and promoting sustainable practices in economic activities. We focus on various ecosystems, from coastal-marine areas to the Mayan jungle, aiming to protect species like jaguars, sea turtles, birds, and whale sharks, along with their habitats. Our efforts involve developing management methodologies for protected areas, ecological regulations and regional planning tools. We use digital tools (https://satif-ppy.hub.arcgis.com/) to prevent and suppress wildfires, and restore critical habitats like mangroves and coastal dunes. Additionally, we promote sustainable tourism, create geographic information systems, support sustainable rural development and work to advance legal tools for the conservation of private and common-use lands.

Rescue the Giants: Protecting Sea Turtles from Extinction.
Why This Project Matters Sea turtles have roamed our oceans for millions of years, playing a crucial role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. However, in just a few decades, human activities such as over-exploitation, pollution, and habitat destruction have pushed these ancient creatures to the brink of extinction. Protecting sea turtles is not just about saving a species; it’s about preserving the delicate balance of our marine environment and ensuring the health of our oceans for future generations. How Your Donation Makes a Difference Your support is vital to our mission of restoring sea turtle populations in the Yucatan Peninsula. Each donation directly contributes to the protection of 79 km of critical nesting beaches, where an average of 2,358 nests are safeguarded annually. With your help, we can conduct daily night surveys during the seven-month nesting season, protecting these nests from threats like poaching, predation, and wave action. Donations enable us to: Employ and train local technicians who monitor and protect major nesting sites in the Yucatan Peninsula. Relocate vulnerable nests at risk of inundation, increasing hatchling survival rates. Conduct beach clean-ups to maintain safe nesting environments. Deliver environmental education programs to raise awareness in local communities about the importance of sea turtle conservation. Measuring Your Impact $10 can help protect five nests and save 10 hatchlings. $50 can protect 100 meters of nesting beach for one season, ensuring the safety of hundreds of hatchlings, and save 50 hatchlings. $100 can fund a week of night surveys by trained technicians, safeguarding dozens of nests from poaching and natural threats, and save 100 hatchlings. $500 can support a community beach clean-up and education event, engaging local residents in conservation efforts and promoting long-term stewardship, and save 500 hatchlings. $1,000 can provide essential equipment and resources for monitoring and relocating nests, directly increasing hatchling survival rates, and save 1,000 hatchlings. By contributing to this project, you are playing an essential role in the recovery of endangered hawksbill and green sea turtle populations. Together, we can ensure that more hatchlings make it to the sea, increasing their chances of survival and helping to restore these magnificent creatures to their rightful place in our oceans.
