Preble Street provides accessible barrier-free services to empower people experiencing problems with homelessness, housing, hunger, and poverty, and advocates for solutions to these problems.
We have served Mainers since 1975. What began as a small social work agency is now a statewide organization, home to the largest direct service emergency food program in northern New England. Every day and night of the year, our low-barrier programs meet people where they are — no hoops to jump through, and no one turned away.
From a nutritious meal to crisis intervention, from clean clothes to healthcare, from a safe shelter to a permanent home, our work meets urgent needs and creates lasting solutions. We walk alongside individuals and families, young people, women, Veterans, and survivors of human trafficking — more than 11,000 Mainers each year.
We don't do this alone. Preble Street works with more than 200 partners across the state, all of us invested in housing people, feeding people, and building a more just Maine. Housing people works. Feeding people works. Compassion works.
