Disabilities
Since our inception we have created opportunities for people of All Abilities to be impactful within our local food system and community.  For our Farmers of All Abilities and their loved ones, we have tried to address the  issue of ‘aging out' of the school system, which often leads to lack of support services, isolation and fear for the future given the difficulties of living with a (dis)ability. At Orkestai our community tends to a no-till garden, pastured poultry, does yoga and other movement exercises and enjoys culinary and art projects. During Overwintering, we spend more time the forest, connecting with nature through shelter building, firemaking, wildlife tracking and more. Donations support our programmming, allowing us to provide year-round wholesome opportunities to be in nature, creating and growing in community.

Support Local Food Dignity in Nassau County

Across the county, communities are rallying to support food dignity. In the face of government funding reductions , people from Iowa, Arizona, New Jersey, Delware and more are stepping in to make sure farms are able to donate their produce to school children and vulnerable populations served by food banks. If you're visiting this page, there's a good chance that you value access to fresh, healthy produce to nourish your family and friends. That's an important reason why we founded and run Orkestai Farm . We couldn't imagine going for very long without fresh produce. And as a 501(c)3 non-profit community-based organization, we recognize that modern life does not often offer feasible paths toward good food and health for so many. As a farm, it is part of our mission to share our bountiful harvest as inclusively as possible. Since 2020, we're blessed to partner with NOSH , an organization founded at the start of Covid-19 to address food insecurity and injustice. We’ve donated nearly $20,000 worth of produce to them and our produce has been one of their most valued donations. For reasons of perishability and cost, quality donated produce is hard to come by. NOSH has conducted surveys revealing their target population wants fresh produce more than anything else. With food prices cutting into budgets like never before, there has never been a better time to make an impact on your neighbors’s lives.
