The One Day’s Wages mission is to alleviate extreme poverty by investing in, amplifying, and coming alongside locally led organizations in underserved communities. We believe local leaders best understand their communities’ needs and solutions, so we support them in addressing systemic issues and implementing sustainable solutions.

ODW was founded on the belief that if enough people give one day’s wage, we can make significant progress toward alleviating extreme poverty worldwide. Together, we aim to create a global movement for a more just and beautiful world.

Our core values are:

Dignity: We believe that every person and community matters. We approach our partnerships and storytelling with empathy, recognizing the strengths, capacity, and inherent worth of every person.

Locally Led: We believe that local leaders best understand the unique needs and solutions in their communities. We come alongside locally founded and led partners, providing resources and support so they can better lead change in their own communities.

Mutuality: We believe this is our collective story: one that community members, partner organizations, volunteers, and supporters all help shape. We build relationships rooted in mutuality, recognizing that everyone has something to contribute and learn.

Transparency: We believe that honesty creates opportunities for learning and growth. We make our financials and project impact reports publicly available, and we strive for open, consistent communication with our partners and supporters.

Impact: We believe our collective resources should be used well. We recognize that poverty is complex, and we prioritize projects that contribute to lasting change by building on the strengths and resources already present in communities.

These guiding principles inform our operations from our thorough grant vetting process, to how we post on social media, to how we engage with our partners on the ground. As a supporter of our grassroots movement, we believe you deserve to know what drives our work, and we invite you to consider these guiding principles in every simple act of generosity–at One Day’s Wages and beyond.
