**Caritas Damayan**

Damayan is the umbrella program of Caritas Manila that covers: (1) preventive health, (2) plant-based food security, (3) feeding and nutrition, (4) crisis intervention, and (5) disaster relief and rehabilitation.

Its sub-programs are:

1. **All is Well** - Through the help of its partners in the medical field, Caritas Manila *offers health services in 28 clinics* in Mega Manila.
2. **Gen129** -*\* This program advocates lifestyle change through plant-based living. In this program, we teach the poor \*how to grow their own food* for a more sustainable future.
3. **Munting Pag-asa** -*\* This program aims to \*counter malnutrition* by providing healthy supplemental meals to poor malnourished children for 120 days.
4. **Unang Yakap** -This program provides healthy meals and vitamins to *poor pregnant/lactating mothers* for 120 days to ensure the optimum health of the mother and their child. Beneficiaries also receive seminars on financial literacy to improve their living condition.
5. **Caritas in Action** - In cooperation with Radio Veritas 846, the CIA program provides medical, legal, hospital bill, laboratory, psychosocial, and burial assistance.
6. **Cadamay** - It *provides emergency relief response* within 24 to 72 hours by distributing food packs, hygiene kits, bedding materials, and shelter repair kits. It also provides livelihood assistance to victims of calamities and church reconstruction assistance to affected parishes.

**Restorative Justice**

It is a program designed to *help Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs)* heal their relationships with their families and the community. It also aims to help them be reintegrated into society as self-sufficient individuals.

**Sanlakbay**

Sanlakbay para sa Pagbabago ng Buhay is a parish/community-based rehabilitation program that aims to transform lives, restore human dignity, and *reintegrate* d*rug dependents* into their communities.

**Segunda Mana**

It is the donated goods program of Caritas Manila that *converts in-kind donations into cash* in our 47 charity outlets in Mega Manila to:

- Fund over 5000 tech-voc and college YSLEP scholars
- Support the livelihood of over 300 micro-entrepreneurs and their families from informal sectors like BASECO and Payatas
- Strongly promote the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle)

**Institute for Servant Leadership and Stewardship (ISLaS)**

ISLaS is the *volunteer arm of Caritas Manila* which mobilizes around 5,000 volunteers within the Archdiocese of Manila.

Partnering with medical centers to fund training and research, enhancing care for children with epilepsy since 2006.

The Care & Cure Institute seeks to remove the financial obstacle of the final step of training for doctors who want to advance their careers in treating pediatric epilepsy.

By partnering with hospitals and academic centers throughout the United States, The Institute plans to fund the training of at least 100 fellows by 2030. The ultimate goal is to fund a pediatric epileptologist and establish a Pediatric Unit in each Level 4 hospital throughout the nation.

By funding pediatric epileptoligst training, there will be an immediate return as doctors are placed into service during and immediately following their training and can begin to care for kids quickly. Further, by using a Master Endowment, Fellows will be financed in perpetuity. The Care & Cure Institute believes that this endowment will be the fastest and most cost effective way not only to improve treatment access for children, but also to cure pediatric epilepsy entirely.

Improving health in the Peruvian Andes by training and empowering indigenous women as community health workers. 

Sacred Valley Health is a community-based, public health nonprofit that partners with vibrant, indigenous communities in the Andes of Peru. **Our core purpose is improving  health and well-being in underserved, marginalized communities through a community health worker program that empowers local women with education, resources, professional development, and economic opportunities.**

Does it work? There is strong evidence that distributing LLINs reduces child mortality and malaria cases. AMF conducts post-distribution surveys of completed distributions to determine whether LLINs have reached their intended destinations and how long they remain in good condition. AMF's post-distribution surveys have generally found positive results but have some methodological limitations. (More)

What do you get for your dollar? We estimate that the cost to purchase and distribute an AMF-funded net is $4.95, or $4.65 excluding in-kind contributions from governments. The numbers of deaths averted and other benefits of distributing LLINs are a function of a number of difficult-to-estimate factors, which we discuss in detail below. (More)

Is there room for more funding? We believe that AMF is likely to be constrained by funding. We estimate that AMF could use up to an additional $37.8 million to support LLIN distributions that will occur between now and late 2023.

Focus on a program with excellent evidence of effectiveness and cost-effectiveness.
Processes for ensuring that nets reach their intended recipients and monitoring whether they remain in homes and in good condition over the long-term.
Room for more funding – we believe AMF will be able to use additional funds to deliver additional nets.

The Against Malaria Foundation

Protecting children's brain development through salt iodization


Entering pregnancy with adequate iodine in the diet protects children's brain development and helps them to grow and learn better. The small amounts of iodine needed can be obtained by using iodized salt in cooking or in food products. It costs just 5 cents a year for a lifetime of protection.

Despite not being directly related to schools, removing this barrier to healthy development is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to support children's educational outcomes. 

IGN is only organization with a sole objective to protect the world from iodine deficiency.  The problem has never fully disappeared, and changing dietary patterns are causing deficiency to re-emerge, even in some of the world’s wealthiest countries.  

Without our work, the global progress achieved over the past few decades could disappear*.*  It would be a major loss to humanity to see this progress slip away when we know how to prevent it. It may be a humble intervention, requiring relatively small amounts of funding, but its impact is enormous.  Thanks to all of you for your past and future support for our work.

ConnectMyVariant's mission is to end hereditary disease by bringing families together.

ConnectMyVariant is an educational health-focused 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports individuals and families with hereditary disease in their early detection and prevention efforts. We provide unique value by leveraging our evidenced-based family connection protocols to help people identify other at-risk relatives and help those relatives access genetic testing so that they can get optimal medical care. ConnectMyVariant brings people with the same genetic risk together through our variant database and community engagement events to share experiences and find common ancestors. ConnectMyVariant also works to increase awareness of the benefits of family outreach among physicians, others who provide prevention care, and the broader genealogy community.
 
Our key activities are:

- Working with patients to implement personalized family outreach plans
- Interactive educational workshops about sharing information on inherited disease risk
- Variant specific family reunions to share stories and plan outreach to cousins
- Genealogy assistance to help connect individuals in variant groups
- Individual equity and inclusion grants for family and community outreach

Need and Impact:
When hereditary disease risk is known, family outreach has been proven to be the most effective and cost-effective intervention for early detection and prevention. This family outreach, also known as cascade testing, is recommended by multiple guidelines. Despite overwhelming evidence, family outreach assistance is not reimbursed by insurance or integrated into healthcare. Many people suffer and die from hereditary disease that could have been prevented or caught early.
 
We have shown that our strategies to encourage family outreach can act as a communication multiplier. Our pilot research at the University of Washington showed that this approach enhanced patient experience, was considered ethical, and was appreciated by newly identified relatives. Our approach is low-cost and is 25 to 50 times more effective than awareness and education interventions that target the general population.

CANCER SCREENINGS (Stats 2020/21)
• Over 54 210 conducted in total (with abnormalities referred accordingly).
• Conducted over 6 260 pap smears and facilitated 2 989 in partnership with the Department of Health (DoH).
• Carried out more than 20 570 clinical breast examinations.
• 8 848 Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests completed and 351 done in partnership with DoH.
• Over 3 010 skin examinations using the FotoFinder Mole Analysis device took place.
• Expanded workplace screening and wellness programmes.


HEALTH SCREENING, EDUCATION AND AWARENESS (Stats 2020/21)
• Approximately 40 727 individual information and education sessions conducted with screenings.
• Over 7 560 people assessed to determine their lifestyle risk, with 2 361 glucose tests performed for diabetes.
• More than 465 900 people reached through 1 738 talks and 4 531 exhibitions with the help of 795 health promotion volunteers.
• Over 150 radio talks hosted for cancer education.
• Distributed over 71 110 information leaflets to promote health awareness campaigns.


CANSA ORGANISATIONAL PROFILE
• More than 79 700 youth reached through 402 school programmes.
• Our CANSA Helpdesk responded to over 12 680 enquiries for support and information via telephone, WhatsApp, email, website and social media.


CURRENT PLANS AND THE FUTURE
CANSA’s service and income generation is managed and deployed centrally with national teams, placed across the country. We streamline and modernise our service and fundraising efforts regularly. We have CANSA Care Centres around the country with certain CANSA Care Centres operating as ‘Virtual CANSA Care Centres’ where employees work remotely to offer services within their surrounding communities assisted by willing volunteers.


Our country’s economic recovery post COVID-19 will take a few years. The need for our normal services continues and even more patients and caregivers need help. We are aware of our duty to continue to educate South Africa about the cancer burden and find innovative ways to help lower the cancer risk, while providing support and care to the communities we serve.

We are a research hospital that treats patients in all medical disciplines, focusing on oncology, neurology, and diagnosis.

The Fondazione Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza – Opera di San Pio da Pietrelcina (transl. Home for the Relief of Suffering Foundation – Work of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina) is a not-for-profit research hospital located in the city of San Giovanni Rotondo (FG), in the Puglia Region, Southern Italy.
As per Canon 1303 §1 of the Code of Canon Law, it has public, canonical and civil legal personality; it is therefore subject to the supervision of the Holy See and, on its behalf, of the pro-tempore Cardinal Secretary of State. 
Many of the stages that have thus far marked the history of the Work of San Pio of Pietrelcina have been achieved thanks to the loving generosity of many benefactors who, sharing the mission indicated by San Pio da Pietrelcina, the relief of suffering, wanted to donate to his work.

HISTORY
The hospital was founded and inaugurated by Saint Pio of Pietrelcina on May 5, 1956 with a capacity of 250 beds. It took on the status of Provincial Hospital on 4 August 1971 and then of Regional General Hospital on 2 June 1980, thus becoming part of the Italian National Healthcare System. Since 16 July 1991, with a Decree of the Minister of Health and the Minister of University and Scientific Research, it has been a Research Hospital. Originally, the object of its scientific activity was limited to genetic and hereditary-familial diseases; subsequently, the Minister of Health, by the 5 December 2012 Decree, extended the research areas of its competence to "Genetic diseases, innovative therapies and regenerative medicine". Recently, on the occasion of the presentation of the research lines for the three-year programme of the Italian Research Hospitals 2022-2024, Casa Sollievo identified “Diagnostic acitivity, Neurology and Oncology” as its main research thematic areas, thus becoming a polythematic Research Hospital.

MISSION
The Foundation's mission is to provide health care and carry out research activities. In addition, the Foundation offers training activities for its personnel.
Around 2,750 people work at the Foundation.
The Foundation (hereinafter “CSS”) consists of three structures based in San Giovanni Rotondo: the hospital Casa Sollievo, the polyclinic Giovanni Paolo II, where outpatient activities are carried out, and the ISBReMIT research center for regenerative medicine (Institute for Stem-cell Biology, Regenerative Medicine and Innovative Therapies); and the Mendel Institute in Rome, where research and diagnostic activities are carried out. In San Giovanni Rotondo, it also owns and runs a retirement home for the elderly.
In addition, CSS owns 3 hospitality facilities where affordable accommodation is offered to hospitalized patients’ relatives who have to assist them; and another facility (Casa Zeni) where accommodation is offered free of charge to the parents of the little patients hospitalized in the oncology-hematology unit.
Moreover, the Foundation includes the Padre Pio Prayer Groups Centre, which was also founded by San Pio and coordinates the Padre Pio prayers groups throughout the world, according to the Founder’s wish that Prayers Groups live and testify the importance of prayer and pray for CSS.
Lastly, CSS publishes a monthly periodical and posts on the Foundation’s official channels on the web updates on its research and clinical activity and its spiritual activity and the teachings of the Founder.
The hospital offers assistance also to people from underdeveloped countries. 
Moreover, a free-of-charge shuttle service has been provided for many years to radiotherapy patients coming from Bari and surrounding cities (Southern Puglia).

THE CLINICAL ACTIVITY
CSS has around 756 beds, 38 medical and surgical inpatient units, 26 operating rooms, in addition to services, diagnostic and multi-specialist outpatient units.
In 2022, the hospital recorded over 30,000 hospitalizations and 870,000 outpatient performances. 
Regarding the advanced technological equipment, CSS has 1 "Da Vinci" surgical robot, 1 PET/CT device, 3 linear accelerators, 4 CT devices, 1 CT simulator for radiotherapy, 4 NMR equipment, 3 digital angiographs, 2 gamma cameras and a RIS/PACS system for the filmless management of the radiology department.
Furthermore, CSS hosts an Umbilical Cord Bank and a Human Milk Bank.
Recent Achievements
In addition to the many important activities carried out in CSS, 3 new units have been opened: 1. a new Emergency Room hosting an Observation and Assessment Ward; 2. an Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Center. 3. an Sub-Intensive Geriatric Unit. 
CSS has also established a Stroke Unit, a Lung Unit, a Breast Unit, a Head and Neck Unit, and a Molecular Tumor Board to guarantee appropriate, quality and homogeneous procedures.
Future goals
Important technological investments have been planned for the years 2023-2025 in the following areas: oncology/nuclear medicine, diagnostic imaging, ICU, and surgery. 

THE RESEARCH ACTIVITY
The research activity is conducted in the Polyclinic, the ISBReMIT research center and at the Mendel Institute, for a total of 17 research groups.
Recent achievements
The consolidated experience of the staff working in CSS in the study of genetic diseases since 1991 and the continuous updating of technologies, instrumentation and genomics and post-genomics skills have made it possible to direct the research and clinical-assistance activity towards two complementary research lines: "personalized medicine - system biomedicine" and "regenerative medicine" based on the study of tumor stem cells and the use of normal stem cells.
The scientific fields in which the Institute is mostly involved in "personalized medicine" concern the identification of the genetic causes of rare diseases and the identification of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive markers in complex pathologies, including tumor pathologies. Regarding the identification of the genetic causes of rare diseases, we use the new next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and the skills acquired by the bioinformatics unit, one of the first established at national level. In parallel, the Institute boasts a large collection of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), produced from patient fibroblasts, in which pathogenetic variants have been identified, and use the skills acquired in differentiating them into mature cells, in particular astrocytes, neurons and oligodendrocytes.
Regarding regenerative medicine, two important studies were conducted and concluded: a phase I trial on anti-Multiple Sclerosis therapy based on the use of human neural stem cells, approved by the Ministry of Health and the Italian Medicines Authority AIFA (EudraCT code 2015-004855-37); and a phase I/II trial on anti-glioma therapy with biological drugs (EudraCT code: 2016-001761-92). The results of these studies will published in prestigious international journals.
In 2015, the new ISBReMIT Regenerative Medicine Research Center was started. It is a cutting-edge structure in terms of conception and equipment in the field of translational medicine for genetic, degenerative and oncological diseases. The structure hosts, together with the highly technologically equipped laboratories, a cell factory and a laboratory for the production of biopharmaceuticals under Good Manufacturing Practice, i.e. for clinical use, including somatic stem cells and iPS, vectors for gene therapy and biomaterials.
It should be noted that CSS has recently become part of three Networks of the Italian Research Centers: since 2016 it has been an Ordinary Associate of Alleanza Contro il Cancro; since December 2018, of the National Research Network on Aging; and, finally, since March 2020 of the Neuroscience Network. Starting from 2022, CSS has been part of the European reference networks for rare and uncommon diseases (European Reference Networks - ERN), in particular ERN-SKIN on diseases of dermatological interest, and ERN ReCONNET on musculoskeletal diseases and pathologies of the connective tissue.
Researchers publish about 200 scientific articles in the most renowned journals (Science, New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Genetics) every year. They are engaged both as Principal Investigators and as partners in research projects in the biomedical field and ICT, obtaining funds from the EU (H2020 and FP7) and national or regional calls.
CSS is also a partner in Research and Innovation projects funded by private and public bodies, e.g. from the EU both under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, in the field of digital transformation of healthcare. The main areas of involvement concern Assistive Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data generated by consumer devices, eHealth, Digital Therapies, the Internet of Things and Cybersecurity.
Future goals
Starting from the identification of the genetic causes of diseases, the goal is to develop advanced therapies to bring to the patient's bedside and tailored to him/her.
Furthermore, at the end of 2023, the phase II study "Neural Stem Cell Treatment for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A multicenter, randomized placebo controlled and biological endpoints clinical Trial" (EudraCt 2018-002373-22) will be launched. This involves the use of neural stem cells on patients suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

CONCLUSION
Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza was born of the visionary mind of a poor friar, one of the most important, recent and internationally recognized and prayed Saints, Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, right after the II World War, in a poor corner of the Southern Italy of those times. 
CSS, by its Statutes, is a not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to protect LGBTQ+ youth in Poland from the harms of homelessness and refugeehood. 

The Warsaw House Foundation's mission is to protect homeless and refugee  LGBTQ+ youth in Poland and provide them with the tools they need to live independently. Our inspiration was the  Ali Forney Center  (AFC)  n NYC, which is largest organization in the world offering support to homeless LGBTQ+ youth. We are honored that Carl Siciliano, the AFC's founder is on the board of the Warsaw House Foundation and works as an advisor. We place extra attention on HIV and STI education, support and prevention with the help of board member Dr. Joanna Kubica and the Smart Life Clinic in Warsaw.  After we took in our first LGBTQ+ youth to house on February 14th, 2023  we have been flooded with calls for housing and support from young people in need.  These are Polish Trans 18 year-olds from the Polish countryside in desperate need to escape their abusive and intolerant homes, young queer people with PTSD and untreated mental illness who need housing and support immediately, LGBTQ+ refugees from Ukraine and several young gay men from Iraq who suffered torture in their homeland, were detained and imprisoned at the Polish/Belarussian border for up to two years, and are now trying to build their lives in Poland.  We are also housing and supporting young LGBTQ+ people from Uganda and Egypt,  We are raising money to support the young people under our care, to house and feed them and pay for their medical needs and courses needed for them to start an independent life,  We are also raising money to hire staff (all of WH's work is now done by volunteers), to continue the renovation of our residential building and for short term emergency rentals.  We have a committed and professional team and a well planned strategy for both emergency and long term care.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!! A social initiative of Udhavum Ullangal Public Charitable Trust, poised to transform the landscape of cancer care in Tamil Nadu.

We are 24yr old charitable trust, in Chennai, working in the areas of cancer care, women empowerment and education. We channel the goodwill of communities and bring hope to people in need.

Since 2011 our Nellai Cancer Care Centre in Tirunelveli has been offering comprehensive cancer care services to underprivileged people. **We have so far raised awareness for over 200k+ people, screened more than 60k+ individuals, conducted over 2800 cancer camps, treated over 1500 patients, and currently provide home-based mobile palliative care services to over 300 patients**. All our initiatives align with the **WHO framework** for cancer care and **SDG Goal 3** for health and wellbeing.

We are now working towards establishing our very own cancer speciality hospital to bridge the growing access-affordability gap in cancer care in Tirunelveli.

Our **[Nellai Cancer Hospital](http://www.nellaicancerhospital.org/)** - a 70-bed facility - will be situated on [a 5.35-acre lush landscape in Sengulam](https://youtu.be/Ij3ErArnajw?si=Gkau13HtITZ3k9Bl) to serve 2 million across the region, spanning several districts.  Equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostics and inpatient care, it is poised to deliver high-quality and holistic cancer care services to patients.

The entire project is being **guided by the Cancer Institute (WIA)** in Adyar, Chennai and several eminent advisors across industries.

So far we have

1. Acquired 5.35 acres of land for the hospital, generously donated to us.
2. Developed a comprehensive architectural plan for a 70-bed hospital, with the initial phase 1 covering approximately 29,000 sq. ft. 
3. Secured the necessary approvals to construct up to 40,000 sq. ft. at the site.

StrongMinds provides life-changing mental health services to women in Africa using innovative community-based group therapy.

According to the WHO, depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and is a major contributor to the global burden of disease. In Africa, an estimated 66M women have depression and 85% have no access to treatment. Since 2014, StrongMinds has treated over 200,000 individuals for depression symptoms, with 80% measuring as depression-free after therapy. When a woman recovers from depression, she is more engaged in the community and her economic activity increases. Her family eats more meals and her children go to school more often. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.

In over 70 countries around the world, MSF saves lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most—in armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and other crises.  The people who work for MSF are doctors, nurses, midwives, epidemiologists, water-and-sanitation experts and many others who combine their professional expertise with a commitment to the world’s most vulnerable people.  Each year, these medical teams run close to 470 projects where they care for millions of people.  

As an organization, MSF is neutral and operates independently of any political, military, or religious agendas. It does not take sides in armed conflicts, provides care based on needs alone, and advocates for increased independent access to victims of conflict and disaster as required under international humanitarian law. Medical teams conduct evaluations on the ground to determine a population's medical needs before opening programs, aiming to fill gaps that exist (rather than replicating services that are already offered) or reach communities that are not being assisted.  Over the years, the organization has been the recipient of several awards that recognize its work, including the 1998 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize, the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize, the 2012 J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding, the 2015 Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award, and the 2017 Pardes Humanitarian Prize for Mental Health.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) 

Fighting HIV/AIDS through innovative research and education 

First established in 1996 during the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Botswana, the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership (BHP, formerly the Botswana Harvard AIDS Institute) is a collaborative research and training initiative undertaken jointly by the Government of Botswana and the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. Located in Gaborone, Botswana, BHP houses the Botswana Harvard HIV Reference Laboratory, one of the largest HIV/AIDS laboratories in Africa, which serves as the reference testing lab for all HIV activities in Botswana.  A world-renowned educational institution of excellence in research and education pertinent to HIV/AIDS and other emerging public health challenges, BHP has between 250 and 300 employees at any given time, several active clinical research sites throughout the country, and high-functioning data, research laboratory, regulatory/ethics, human resource, finance, and administrative offices. One of the core missions of BHP is to build capacity through training African researchers, clinicians, and public health leaders. Dozens of African investigators and thousands of health workers have trained through BHP, at least half of them women.

Esophageal Cancer Action Network is a national nonprofit organization. It received its 501(C)(3) nonprofit status in 2008.

**ECAN's mission is to SAVE LIVES.**

We do it by:

- Sounding the alarm that reflux disease can cause deadly Esophageal Cancer,

COVID-19 response:

In March of 2020, CHILA just completed what would be, unknowingly,  the last annual dental and medical mission with Kindness in Action due to the pandemic.  2 weeks later, the COVID-19 pandemic was declared and the border was closed and just like that, our in-person clinics ceased operations for over a year.   Like all the countries in the world, COVID-19 hit the communities of poor and disenfranchised the hardest.  But the CHILA team of Chisec rised to the occasion.  The team immediately gathered all the reliable scientific information that was being presented and they were one of the first to organize educational videos on virus information and prevention, proper hand washing techniques, and self-care and mental health awareness during quarantine all in the Q’eqchi Maya language.  They organized seamstresses to mass produce masks for the community with proper distancing and mask wearing observed.  They put together and delivered PPE packs to the staff of the local Centro de Salud and delivered food parcels to those communities that were having hardships with food security. Our History and Our Present:

CHILA was started by Brian Smith, MD in the town of Chisec, Guatemala.  Brian served as a member of the Peace Corps in the region and witnessed firsthand the lack of access to healthcare for the population in the area.  Once he returned to the United States, he changed his vocation from engineering to medicine.  He entered medical school and became a physician while concurrently traveling back and forth to Chisec to build and open a medical clinic.  CHILA has grown with the belief that no person should die or be denied healthcare because of where you were born.  After years of providing care to many people in the region, CHILA was recognized as a nonprofit organization in 2019.

Currently, CHILA funds a small group of local medical professionals in Chisec who we pay to provide ongoing  and prescribed care for chronic and complex medical conditions.  Dr. Smith and a contingency of volunteer medical providers from the United States travels to Chisec several times a year to hold clinics in our Chisec location as well as a variety of villages in the region.  During these clinic days, we see cases of varying levels of complexity.  We are able to treat common ailments during these clinic days as well as establish longer term care plans for more complex and chronic issues.  We provide all these services with translators who can speak in the native Q’eqchi language.

LEEP advocates for regulation on lead paint to reduce lead poisoning and improve the health, wellbeing, and potential of children worldwide. Lead poisoning is a colossal issue causing disability in 815 million children worldwide.

Currently, we are working on programs in Malawi, Zimbabwe, Madagascar and Pakistan, and are looking to expand to another 7 countries in the next year.

Medical Action Myanmar (MAM) is a medical INGO focusing on providing largescale access to free, quality healthcare for the marginalized people in Myanmar. MAM commenced its implementation of activities in 2009 with the first clinic in a huge shanty Hlaingtharyar Township in Yangon. Since then, we expanded to 20 clinics in Yangon, Kachin, Kayin, Chin, Shan, Mon and Sagaing. MAM has also expanded to other areas of need, such as child protection/education.

Furthermore, MAM has recruited and trained villagers in approximately 2300 villages across Myanmar to provide diagnosis and treatment for Malaria, TB and basic health care, amongst others. MAM’s clinics cover a wide variety of services for different diseases ranging from HIV and TB to Basic Healthcare or Hepatitis. In 2023 MAM conducted just over **2 million** medical consultations.

Sanku combats hidden hunger and saves lives by giving small mills the tools needed to fortify maize flour, an East African staple. Our mission: Guarantee that every meal consumed by every mother & child contains vital nutrients, forever. 

Worldwide, 8,000 children die every day and 2 billion suffer from preventable illness because their diets lack basic vitamins and minerals. Fortification (adding life-saving micronutrients to processed foods) is the most cost-effective nutrition intervention, but it has failed to reach the 6.5 billion people in developing countries who rely on small, often rural, mills for most of their food.

Sanku developed a technology and business model to enable the small mills that feed the most malnourished people to conveniently and affordably fortify staple grains. Our technology adds precise levels of nutrients into flour during processing and our business model leverages economies of scale to offset any additional costs for millers and their customers, providing Sanku with revenue margins that increase as we scale. We are currently reaching 3 million East Africans with the basic human right of nutritious food and have a plan to reach 100 million this decade, which will prevent millions from death and disease, boost productivity, and save billions of dollars in GDP.

Due to generous donation programs from the pharmaceutical industry, the annual cost of treatment per individual is, on average, 50 cents per year.** Demonstrating the uniquely cost-effective impact of NTD treatment, [a Nobel Prize-winning study](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1468-0262.2004.00481.x) showed that deworming is the most efficient means of improving children’s school attendance and capacity to learn. At a national level, a recent [report by Deloitte on Nigeria](https://www2.deloitte.com/za/en/nigeria/pages/strategy/articles/Ending_The_Neglect.html) showcases the significant gains affected economies stand to make should NTDs be eliminated, with Nigeria’s economy estimated to receive an $18.9b boost from now until 2030.

VCCA works to educate Virginian communities, health professionals, and lawmakers about the health impacts of climate change.

In 2015, pediatrician Dr. Samantha Ahdoot was asked to testify in front of the Virginia General Assembly, on behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics, in support of a clean air bill. Virginia legislators were surprised and initially confused that a physician was speaking out about climate change, but many noted that the pediatrician's statement led them to support the bill, and the bill passed. 

Following this experience, Dr. Ahdoot realized that the voice of health professionals was needed, and lacking in statewide discussions about climate action. She and other health professionals began meeting in the hospital conference room to talk about how they could educate, empower, and mobilize other health professionals to become advocates for climate solutions in Virginia.

Almost 10 years later, VCCA has over 650 members, with committees including Healthcare Sustainability, Nutrition, Legislative Advocacy, Education, and Climate Justice, who are engaged in action at health professional schools, communities, and health systems across the state of Virginia.
