Reimagining What Is Possible After Trauma

At the My What If Foundation, we believe that people facing trauma, PTSD, crisis, and profound life challenges deserve more than help managing what has happened to them. They deserve help imagining what could still be possible.

Our mission is to expand access to innovative, trauma-informed mental health support that helps people rediscover hope, strengthen their sense of agency, and begin envisioning a future beyond the experiences that have shaped their past.

MyWhatIf was created around a simple but powerful idea: What if hope itself could become a starting point for healing?

For many people living with the effects of trauma, imagining a positive future can become extraordinarily difficult. The future may feel limited by the past. Possibility can be replaced by fear, uncertainty, or a sense that nothing will change.

MyWhatIf is designed to help interrupt that pattern.

Instead of asking people to begin by repeatedly revisiting or reliving traumatic experiences, MyWhatIf invites them to begin with their own meaningful “What If?”

What if I could feel like myself again?

What if my past did not have to determine my future?

What if I could reconnect with the people I love?

What if I could believe that something better is still possible?

From that question, our technology creates personalized, emotionally resonant narratives designed to help a person imagine a different future and reconnect with hope, possibility, and personal agency.

We call this process activating the “Hope Switch.”

A Different Approach to Trauma-Informed Support

MyWhatIf is being developed as a trauma-informed digital mental health platform, informed by mental health and trauma experts and designed to complement, not replace, professional care.

Our approach is intentionally different.

Many traditional trauma interventions require people to discuss, process, or revisit painful memories. Those approaches can be valuable, but they are not right, accessible, or comfortable for everyone.

MyWhatIf explores another path: beginning with possibility.

Through personalized storytelling, artificial intelligence, emotional calibration, and human connection, we are working to create an experience that meets people where they are and helps them take a meaningful step toward where they want to be.

The goal is not to erase the past or promise a quick solution.

The goal is to help people see that their future may contain possibilities they cannot see today.

Why This Work Matters

Trauma affects people across every community.

It can affect veterans and first responders, survivors of violence and abuse, people experiencing grief or displacement, individuals affected by incarceration, young adults, families, and people navigating experiences that have fundamentally changed how they see themselves and their future.

Yet accessing mental health support can still be difficult.

Cost, stigma, geography, long waitlists, fear of judgment, shortages of trained professionals, and discomfort with traditional approaches can all become barriers to getting help.

Technology gives us an opportunity to rethink that equation.

We envision mental health support that can be available when someone needs it, wherever they are, without requiring specialized equipment or forcing them to begin their journey by recounting the most painful moments of their life.

Our goal is to make hope more accessible.

Technology With a Human Purpose

Artificial intelligence is transforming nearly every part of society. We believe one of its most meaningful applications may be helping people reconnect with their own capacity to imagine a better future.

But technology alone is not the mission.

People are.

MyWhatIf uses technology to create deeply personalized experiences while keeping the individual's own hopes, questions, and possibilities at the center.

The person is not simply receiving a generic message of encouragement. They are participating in the creation of a narrative shaped around a future that matters to them.

That distinction is important.

Hope becomes personal.

Possibility becomes imaginable.

And the question changes from “What happened to me?” to “What could happen next?”

Building Evidence Alongside Innovation

We believe innovative mental health tools should be evaluated carefully and responsibly.

That is why an important part of our work is advancing research and clinical validation around MyWhatIf's approach, particularly its potential relationship to hope, agency, and trauma recovery.

We are working to build the evidence needed to understand where this approach can be most helpful, for whom, and how it can responsibly fit within the broader mental health ecosystem.

We do not believe technology should make promises that evidence cannot support.

We believe it should earn trust.

What Your Donation Can Make Possible

Your support helps the My What If Foundation advance this work and expand its potential reach.

Donations can help us:

  • Expand access so that financial circumstances do not determine who has the opportunity to experience innovative mental health support.
  • Advance research and validation to better understand the impact of our approach and build the evidence required for responsible adoption.
  • Improve the MyWhatIf experience by continuing to develop technology that is personalized, trauma-informed, accessible, and centered on human needs.
  • Reach underserved communities where stigma, cost, geography, or limited mental health resources can make traditional support difficult to access.
  • Build partnerships with researchers, clinicians, community organizations, veteran communities, and other groups working directly with people affected by trauma.
  • Strengthen human connection and support alongside technology, recognizing that healing and hope are fundamentally human experiences.
  • Help bring this approach to more people who may feel that existing options have not worked for them or are simply not accessible.

Every contribution helps us move closer to a future in which someone struggling after trauma does not have to believe that their hardest experience has written the rest of their story.

The Future We Are Working Toward

Imagine someone awake in the middle of the night who feels overwhelmed and cannot imagine things getting better.

Imagine a veteran who has spent years carrying experiences they do not want to repeatedly recount.

Imagine a survivor who wants support but is not ready to talk about what happened.

Imagine someone who has simply stopped believing that their life can change.

Now imagine giving that person another place to begin.

Not with their worst memory.

With a possibility.

With a question.

With a glimpse of a future they may have stopped believing was available to them.

What if things could be different?

That is the future the My What If Foundation is working to build.

We are bringing together technology, storytelling, research, trauma-informed principles, and human connection around one fundamental belief:

No person's past should have the final word on what they believe is possible for their future.

When you support the My What If Foundation, you are helping us explore a new frontier in mental health support and helping make that support accessible to people who need another path forward.

You are investing in research.

You are investing in access.

You are investing in innovation with a human purpose.

Most importantly, you are investing in hope.
