MMP creates fundraising for those whom can't afford mental health services through endurance sports & mountain climbing

DonateStart a fundraiser

Mental Mountains Project was founded by Keith Batenhorst after years of daily struggle with his own mental health including panic attacks, anxiety, and self-medication. He turned his personal journey into a movement motivated by the idea that no matter how tall, we all face our own mental mountains each day. Inspired by the symbolism is overcoming and climbing our challenges one step at a time, Keith created Mental Mountains Project to show everyone the human spirit is stronger than we think. We at MMP live our lives by the motto to "keep showing up." We aim to inspire, create awareness, and raise funds for those who otherwise would not be able to afford & receive proper mental health services.

Through ultra endurance challenges, and climbing expeditions we try to carry the weight of the world for the spirit that needs to know someone is out there fighting for them. It's possible to push past your self-imposed limits and live a life beyond what you could have dreamed of.

2026 FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

2025 challenged me to think beyond myself as the founder of Mental Mountains. This year is about pushing past those limits as we take take the same steps towards believing in our mission that we are hoping to inspire in our supporters daily! Through our partners, we're able to support one person's mental health needs for an average of $5,000 annually. That means every dollar provides someone with another minute of comfort. As we diversify our partners and reach, we hope to stretch our distributions even further as this year our goal of $50,000 which would double our support for those in in need of funds. Please follow along @keithbatenhorst on instagram as we start our season on the most iconic bike climb in the world on Mauna Kea as we aim to cycle up 13,803 ft and summit mountains in an entirely new space. In spring, we'll shift our focus to the Victoria, BC Ironman 70.3 as we gear up for the Lake Placid, NY Ironman 140.6 in July! We'll close out the season the season with two MMP athletes taking on back to back marathons at the Mont Tremblant 80K Relay and ending the season with a 50K trail run through the iconic Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland - taking on over 11,000 ft of vertical gain to end the year!

Lhakpa Ri Ski Fundraiser

As a former paramedic and a current leader in the mental health space, I’ve seen the immense "mental mountains" people face every day—and the financial barriers that often stand in the way of recovery. My mission is to help bridge that gap. The Mission: The Mental Mountains Project provides financial aid to those who cannot afford essential behavioral health services. While I tackle the physical challenge of skiing Lhakpa Ri and the North Col of Everest this season in Tibet, your support helps others navigate their toughest personal peaks. Your Impact: I self-fund my expeditions, so 100% of your donation goes directly toward funding treatment and support for those in need. Whether it’s $5 or $500, every contribution helps provide a lifeline to someone in our community. Join me in making mental health support accessible to everyone. Donations to this campaign will support the Seattle community - we are looking for mental health providers to partner with and fund care directly, or will provide the funds to the Seattle Children's Patient Assistance Fund (tagged specifically for mental health). https://mentalmountainsproject.org/ @justin.einstein (Instagram)
