🌱 Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary – Love All. Serve All.

Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary is Colombia’s first and only legally registered animal sanctuary, founded with a mission to protect the most vulnerable animals and educate the public on compassion, sustainability, and nonviolence. Nestled in the Andes Mountains just outside Bogotá, we offer a safe, loving home to more than 100 rescued animals—each with their own story of resilience and hope.

From abused cows and abandoned pigs to rescued dogs, sheep, rabbits, and chickens, our sanctuary is a living testament to the power of love and second chances.

🐄 Who We Are

Founded in 2006 by Juliana Castañeda, a passionate animal advocate and certified nutritionist, Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary began as a humble act of love and has grown into a nationally recognized safe haven for farm animals in Colombia.

Juliana works alongside her husband, Paul Rodney Turner (founder of Food for Life Global), and a small but dedicated team to care for the animals, manage the sanctuary, and spread a message of compassion throughout Latin America and beyond.

We operate as a registered nonprofit charity in Colombia and as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the United States. Our work is 100% funded by donors who believe in a kinder world for all beings.

🐷 What We Do

🛟 Animal Rescue & Sanctuary

We rescue animals from abuse, neglect, slaughterhouses, and factory farms. Every resident receives:

  • A safe, peaceful environment
  • Daily food and fresh water
  • Veterinary care and medication
  • Companionship, play, and affection

📚 Education & Advocacy

We believe change begins with awareness. Our public outreach includes:

  • School programs and educational tours
  • Online content promoting veganism and animal rights
  • Workshops and community events focused on conscious living

🌍 Community Impact

We collaborate with educators, animal rights organizations, and local leaders to:

  • Promote environmental sustainability
  • Inspire kindness and nonviolence in youth and families
  • Challenge speciesism

🐾 Why Our Work Matters

While companion animals like dogs and cats are slowly gaining legal protection in Colombia, farm animals remain invisible victims of cruelty and neglect. At Juliana’s Sanctuary, we make their stories visible. We give them names, we share their journeys, and most importantly—we give them the right to live.

These animals are not food, machines, or commodities. They are sentient beings who deserve to live in peace. We are here to honor that truth and inspire others to do the same.

✨ Impact at a Glance

  • 🐮 Over 200 animals rescued since 2006
  • 🍃 Hundreds of vegan education sessions in schools and communities
  • 🎓 Trained dozens of local and international interns and volunteers
  • 📣 Reached millions globally with a message of compassion
  • 🇨🇴 Colombia’s first and only certified farm animal sanctuary

💛 How You Can Help

Your support powers everything we do—from feeding our animals to expanding our outreach. Here’s how you can get involved:

💵 Become a Monthly Donor

Recurring donations help us provide consistent, quality care and plan for the future. Even $10/month makes a huge impact.

🧡 Sponsor an Animal

Form a personal connection by sponsoring a rescued animal. You’ll receive updates, photos, and the satisfaction of knowing you’re directly supporting their care.

🛠️ Volunteer or Fundraise

We welcome both in-person and remote volunteers. Have skills in writing, fundraising, digital marketing, or animal care? We’d love to hear from you!

🌿 A Vision for the Future

We dream of building a model vegan education center on our sanctuary land—complete with workshops, retreats, and school visits. A place where children can meet animals as friends, not food. Where compassion is cultivated, and where the next generation of changemakers can be inspired.

With your help, this dream is possible.

Sweet Rescue Dog Needs a Prosthetic Leg

When I left my volunteer position at Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary in September 2018, I made a promise to a very special dog named Fox. Fox had been abandoned, tied to a pole, and hit by a car at just one year old; he lost his front left leg due to injuries. At Juliana’s he was guaranteed a life of love, medical care, food, and fellow animal friends. I was fortunate to be his primary caretaker when he was rescued a month after my arrival, and he quickly became my best friend. Despite the cruelty he endured, Fox is one of the gentlest, most loving dogs I ever met. He’s successfully walked on three legs for seven years, but as he ages, a prosthesis would be helpful in reducing the pressure on his remaining limbs and giving him the quality of life he deserves.  Which leads back to the promise I made to Fox before I left the sanctuary.  I promised Fox I would take him home and specifically, that I would get him a prosthetic. Unfortunately, I was unable to adopt Fox and get him his new leg, but it is my deepest wish to provide this for him now.  This holiday season, please consider a donation to Fox’s prosthesis as a charitable good deed, a gift idea for yourself, or a gift in someone’s honor. No amount is too small!  I don’t need more material items, but I do want Fox’s needs met. If you too find yourself without a need for “stuff”, but have loved ones who want to spread holiday cheer, send them this link to give a very good boy the ultimate gift this Christmas. After all, what’s more cheerful than a happy dog?  Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary is in need of three other devices as well, and they have secured a $1000 per piece rate from a specialist. Every donation to this fundraiser goes to Fox’s prosthetic leg, and if we surpass the $1000 goal, surplus funds with be divided for Fox’s three friends at the sanctuary also in need of prosthesis or wheelchairs.  Thank you for your compassion and generosity this holiday season! If you’d like to support Juliana’s mission year round go to julianasfarm.org to sponsor an animal resident.
