American Friends of the International Centre for Mathematics in Ukraine (ICMU)

Believing firmly that science and research play a crucial role in the future reconstruction and long-term development of Ukraine, a group of mathematicians of Ukrainian origin founded the International Centre for Mathematics in Ukraine (ICMU).

ICMU enables Ukrainian mathematicians to remain actively engaged with the international mathematical community. The Centre places special emphasis on supporting young mathematicians at this challenging time.

Through its programmes, ICMU provides opportunities for direct academic exchange and continued scientific collaboration. From 2023 to 2025, ICMU organised eight summer and winter schools, delivered 15 online mini-courses, and welcomed seven distinguished visiting mathematicians to Kyiv for lecture series. Together, these activities brought more than 500 participants to ICMU programmes.

We are currently seeking support for two key programmes:

The Book Translation @ICMU Programme makes modern mathematical books accessible to students, teachers, and motivated high school students by translating them into Ukrainian. ICMU provides grants to translators and oversees the editing and publication process of the books, helping to spark interest in mathematical science among the next generation.

The Collaboration @ICMU Programme supports joint research projects between Ukrainian and international scientists. It enables researchers to work together in person in Ukraine, exchange ideas, and remain actively integrated into the global mathematical community.
