The Call

Imagine a world where villages are resilient, self-sustaining, and deeply connected to the land. This vision drives our work at the IDEP Foundation. Since 1999, we’ve been transforming communities across Indonesia, helping them stand strong against economic, environmental, and social challenges. From the islands of Indonesia to countries like Pakistan and the Philippines, IDEP’s proven approach strengthens local communities through Permaculture-based resilience.

Today, our mission is more critical than ever. Through our Strategic Plan, we’re developing Resilient Villages—holistic, sustainable communities equipped to protect their environment, preserve their culture, and secure livelihoods for generations to come—in six critical areas:

1. Economic Stability: We boost local income, reduce household costs, and champion diverse economic opportunities that sustain families.
2. Environmental Stewardship: From fighting deforestation to managing water resources, we work with communities to protect the ecosystems they rely on.
3. Social & Cultural Empowerment: We strengthen community bonds, preserve cultural heritage, and support local leadership.
4. Disaster Preparedness: We equip villages to anticipate, withstand, and recover from natural disasters, minimizing loss and speeding recovery.
5. Education for Resilience: We enrich education with environmental and disaster preparedness skills that empower the next generation.
6. Public Health & Well-being: We improve community health through access to healthcare and preventive health education.

Our Resilient Village model uses Permaculture zoning to guide change from within, starting at the family level and scaling across the village. Every initiative is evaluated at three levels—Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced—ensuring each community moves toward lasting, sustainable resilience.
