Fondation Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL)
The Fondation supports Université PSL’s education, and innovation to tackle global challenges in health, climate, AI, and energy.
Created in 2010, Fondation PSL supports and accompanies Université PSL in its core missions of research, education, equal opportunity, innovation, and the dissemination of knowledge. It plays a key role in enhancing PSL’s national and international visibility by fostering strong engagement within its academic community and building strategic partnerships with socio-economic actors.
Driven by a vision that combines excellence and equal opportunity, the Fondation PSL finances a wide range of initiatives, including research chairs, scholarships, international mobility programs, student housing, and cultural projects, thanks to the generosity of individual and corporate donors. Since July 2023, the Foundation has also become a hosting foundation, enabling PSL’s component institutions to create and manage their own philanthropic projects under its umbrella.
With 4,500 faculty members, 800 PhD graduates annually, and a strong commitment to innovation and intellectual property management, PSL stands as a world-class university contributing 8% of all research in France. The Foundation’s funded projects span critical areas such as sustainability, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion, reflecting its commitment to addressing the major challenges of our time.
Looking ahead, the Fondation PSL aims to strengthen its impact by expanding fundraising efforts, developing new partnerships, and continuing to support transformative projects that combine academic excellence with societal engagement.

Protecting the Sustainable Pacific Ocean (SPO)
The Sustainable Pacific Ocean (SPO) project is a multidisciplinary research initiative led by Université PSL . SPO responds to an urgent reality: Pacific island communities and coral reef ecosystems are among the most vulnerable to climate change , yet they remain underrepresented in global research and decision-making. Coral reefs support the livelihoods, food security and cultural heritage of millions of people. Rising ocean temperatures, acidification and biodiversity loss are already disrupting these ecosystems, with direct social and economic consequences for local populations. Through its five research–action axes , SPO produces knowledge that is both scientifically robust and directly useful: data collected through long-term field missions in the Pacific, interdisciplinary analyses linking environmental change and human well-being , close collaboration with local researchers, institutions and communities , evidence designed to inform public policies, conservation strategies and philanthropic action .
