Who We Are: EcoNusa Foundation is an Indonesian non-profit dedicated to empowering IPLCs in Eastern Indonesia to protect forests, oceans, and their cultural heritage. We believe that the people who live closest to nature are its best stewards, and that lasting conservation is only possible when IPLCs have the rights, resources, and influence to manage their lands and seas sustainably.
Our Mission: To promote sustainable and equitable management of Indonesia’s natural resources by strengthening local capacities, supporting IPLC rights, and advancing climate action, for the benefit of people and the planet.
Why Eastern Indonesia Matters: Eastern Indonesia—including Papua and Maluku Islands—is home to some of the world’s richest biodiversity. These rainforests and coral reefs are vital for global climate stability, fisheries, and cultural heritage. Yet they face threats from deforestation, unsustainable resource extraction, and climate change. Protecting these ecosystems is not only critical for IPLCs, but also for the world.
