Community through Colors, Inc started in 2016 as a group of people using art, volunteerism, and open dialogue to spread hope and awareness of the similarities between all humans, despite geographical or cultural boundaries. That initial project showed many of the values that run deep within the human species and make us all members of one community.
Founded in 2017 in response to the devastating Atlantic hurricane season across the Caribbean, Sail Relief Team Project’s mission is to bring disaster relief and preparedness to remote, isolated, and under-served coastal communities. We address three core needs – Response, Recovery, and Resilience – to preserve life in times of emergency and rebuild communities in the aftermath. Sail Relief Team operates on volunteer work, grants, and donations from supporters.
Sail Relief Team operates a volunteer house and small-scale sustainable farm in Vieques, Puerto Rico, home to La Finca de Hamberto and educational project AVES (Apoyo en Vieques para la Educación y la Sostentabilidad).
La Finca operates as a learning farm, hosting educational seminars, assisting others with at-home gardening and livestock raising, and preparing for natural disasters through food security. Currently, 95% of food on Vieques is brought from mainland Puerto Rico by ferry.
