Education

Your gift will provide underserved communities free job training to close the racial wealth gap by teaching in-demand job skills and building generational wealth.

Our purpose is to provide educational and work training opportunities to formerly incarcerated individuals, victims of abuse, immigrants and at-risk youth, in the areas of code compliance and maintenance at no financial cost to the participant.

There are many real estate management companies in New York City and the surrounding area. These companies need people to manage their buildings- make sure the buildings are clean, up to code, and that rent is being paid. This is called property management or real estate management. Property managers in New York City can make as much as $190,000 a year according to Salary.com. No high school degree is required, and in fact, you can do this job with a criminal record, as our founder, John Davis, has found through his own experience as a formerly incarcerated youth.

Changing Lanes gives underserved individuals the skills needed to be successful in property management and real estate management in New York City. Our courses are free. In addition to free skills courses, we also give free career advising, financial education, mental health referral services, legal help, and credit repair.

Help Us Add More Courses!

At Changing Lanes, our goal is to turn out indispensable employees. Changing Lanes aims to help low-income, low-skilled, formerly incarcerated, and underserved communities access new opportunities. Specifically, we train these marginalized communities as property managers in New York City's many privately managed buildings. There are many real estate management companies in New York City, and they need people to help keep their buildings clean, up to code, and collect rent. Property managers in New York City can make as much as $190,000 a year. However, a university education is not necessary to be a high-earning property manager. One can even be a property manager with a criminal background, as our founder John Davis has found through his own experience. As an organization, we want to do everything we can to help our students turn their lives around, including giving them the most competitive skills for a stable, high-earning career. Our courses are entirely free, along with our other services, including career counseling, legal help, and financial education. This project is to create lesson plans for our New York City Department of Buildings Compliance course. We also need to hire an instructor for this course.
