Bees Abroad is a UK-based charity established in 1999 and formalised in 2005, epitomizing a grassroots movement, operated solely by volunteers until 2021. The charity aims to impart beekeeping skills, training, and support to foster community development, primarily in Africa. Our initiatives rest on three foundational pillars: creating opportunities, generating income, and environmental protection, ensuring our mission's success and impactful outcomes.

Our dedication lies in spearheading community-driven projects in collaboration with local partners. We have successfully trained over 7,000 beekeepers, realized more than 100 projects across 15 countries, and bolstered over 2,000 micro-enterprises to date.

Presently, our efforts are concentrated in African nations including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Projects are meticulously chosen for their potential for local support, community involvement, and significant impact.

We offer a variety of engagement initiatives, such as Hive Twinning, a robust social media presence, a complimentary newsletter, and a blog. Our volunteer opportunities are diverse, extending beyond beekeeping. Through numerous online events, we share information about our projects and raise awareness of beekeeping and pollinators' critical roles in the ecosystem. Annually, we participate in the Big Give campaign during the holiday season and a spring campaign, highlighting our volunteer partnership managers' diligent efforts and the progress within our projects and their participants.
