El Directorio Guatemala (EDG) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the capacity, visibility, and collective impact of civil society organizations (CSOs) working to improve social wellbeing in Guatemala. Founded in 2020, EDG emerged from a recognized need for stronger connections, shared learning, and coordinated action among the thousands of nonprofit organizations, associations, and community initiatives operating across the country. Today, EDG serves as the only national-level network of its kind in Guatemala, bringing together organizations that work across diverse thematic areas and geographic regions, and providing them with tools, information, and collaborative spaces that help them thrive.

EDG’s mission is to foster greater connection, collaboration, and professionalization across the nonprofit sector, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and effective civil society ecosystem. We achieve this through three core functions: a national online directory of nonprofit organizations; virtual and in-person convenings focused on peer learning, professional development, and knowledge exchange; and strategic initiatives that respond to emerging needs facing the sector, including shifting donor priorities and funding challenges.

Our digital directory is a centralized, publicly accessible platform that showcases the work of nonprofit organizations throughout Guatemala. It enhances visibility for local organizations, facilitates partnership building, and helps donors and stakeholders more easily identify organizations aligned with their interests. EDG continuously updates and expands this platform to ensure it remains a reliable resource for the sector.

Beyond the directory, EDG organizes regular webinars, workshops, networking events, and thematic learning spaces. These events address the practical needs of nonprofit leaders, covering topics such as organizational strengthening, monitoring and evaluation, fundraising strategies, financial management, collaboration practices, and policy advocacy. Through these spaces, organizations learn from one another, develop new skills, and form connections that often lead to joint projects, shared resources, and long-term alliances.

EDG also plays an increasingly important role in sector-wide strategy and response. In recent years, major shifts in U.S. foreign assistance and philanthropic priorities have created substantial uncertainty for local organizations in Guatemala. Recognizing this, EDG has begun leading collective efforts to understand changing funding landscapes, communicate donor trends to its members, and create opportunities for direct dialogue between donors and civil society organizations. EDG also develops guidance and tools to help organizations diversify funding, adapt to new donor requirements, and strengthen internal capacity.

As EDG continues to grow, the organization is expanding its strategic priorities. Current and planned initiatives include the development of a verified accreditation program to support transparency and donor confidence; a funder-matching and grant information service to help organizations access new funding opportunities; initiatives to strengthen interorganizational collaboration at regional and national levels; and expanded programming to support advocacy and civic engagement. EDG is also deepening partnerships with philanthropic institutions, universities, and international cooperation agencies to catalyze broader support for civil society.

With a rapidly expanding network of member organizations across Guatemala, EDG is committed to fostering a stronger, more connected, and more resilient civil society sector. We envision a future in which nonprofit organizations—regardless of size or location—have equitable access to information, resources, partnerships, and opportunities that enable them to maximize their social impact. Through our convening power, strategic tools, and collaborative approach, EDG strives to be a trusted reference point and a catalyst for collective action in Guatemala’s social impact ecosystem.
