Science & Technology

WOMEN AT THE TABLE is the first organization to focus on systems change by helping feminists gain influence in sectors that have key structural impact: the economy, democracy and governance, technology and sustainability. As a pioneering think tank, we don’t just analyze feminist AI, we actively construct it.

Our mission is to forge technology that eradicates bias and elevates gender equity.

We work to ensure that the data machines ‘learn’ from reflects the world we want to live in. Because this data is used to create the algorithms that decide what matters, who will be hired, which resources will be allocated…

But today’s data is implicitly biased against women and marginalized groups. It defines yesterday, not tomorrow. That means the ‘rules’ we will live by for years to come are being written to reinforce the way things were.

To correct the bias, women and girls in all their diversity must be heard. We need a seat at the table. By connecting the right people, at the right place at the right time, women can and must be involved in all levels of policymaking.

Our activities include:

  • AI & EQUALITY:  A HUMAN RIGHTS TOOLBOX — An online course and a community to equip technologists, decision makers and industry innovators with the tools and concepts to build a human rights-based approach to the core of the code
  • A+ ALLIANCE for Inclusive Algorithms — A global coalition of technologists, activists and academics championing feminist AI around the globe, Recognized as a World Changing Idea by Fast Company and spotlighted at the Paris Peace Forum
  • FA+IR NETWORK — A consortium incubating innovation and networking change-makers to weave inclusion into the fabric of emerging technologies
  • G-APP: The Gender Gap — Equips organizations with hard data to address diversity in conferences and events by measuring the difference between representation, participation, and influence
  • ADVOCACY for a Paradigm Shift — Our message resonates from the halls of power to international forums, influencing discussions on trade, technology, democracy and inclusive policies.

THE PATH FORWARD Ten years of proven impact. One unwavering mission: building AI that works for all—not just the privileged few. Not fixing broken tables—building new ones  Our work confirms what we've always known: transformation doesn't come from adding chairs to broken tables. It comes from designing new tables altogether—ones built for our collective intelligence and shared humanity. We're accelerating our impact by: Cultivating transformative collaborations between technologists, social scientists, and affected communities Engineering technology that solves communities' most urgent needs Shaping multilateral policy that ensures AI governance works from local to global levels Creating tools that put power back in people's hands—giving communities real agency over their digital futures Building tech WITH communities, not FOR them  Through Women at the Table, the <A+> Alliance, and the <AI & Equality> Human Rights initiative, we're not imposing technology from above—we're building systems designed with and for the communities they serve. Your Impact: Every $100 enables us to document and share community-led solutions globally $500 sponsors side events that bring marginalized voices into policy spaces $1,000 funds collaborative workshops bringing technologists and community leaders together $5,000 transforms research into prototypes that communities can test and shape Who Benefits: Communities gaining control over their digital futures Women leaders shaping AI policy globally Local organizations building tech capacity Policymakers developing rules that protect rights at every level—from village councils to UN forums Fund the tables that make democracy strong.   "The future belongs to those who build new tables—where local wisdom meets global expertise, where communities shape the tools that shape their lives. This is how we forge resilient democracies."

Fuel the Future of Fair AI

Women at the Table is a Geneva-based civil society organization dedicated to advancing equity and inclusion in AI development through our human rights-based approach. Our AI & Equality community , now with nearly 300 researchers from diverse academic backgrounds, offers vital tools and spaces for creating AI that respects and promotes human rights. Our flagship <AI & Equality> Toolbox course equips technologists, policymakers, data scientists, and others with the critical analysis and shared vocabulary needed to develop AI systems grounded in equality and human rights . To expand our impact, we are currently developing new Toolboxes tailored to different sectors and regions, such as ones specifically designed for Africa, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Environment. Each Toolbox will focus on specific use cases, incorporating the unique challenges and opportunities of its sector or region. However, we need your support to continue this vital work. Your donations will help us expand our programming, build new Toolboxes, and enhance our online community. Your generosity can make a profound difference.
