The Universal Coalition of Affirming Africans Uganda (UCAA-UG) is a coalition of faith leaders, people of faith, and faith-based institutions working to advance human rights and inclusion of marginalised communities in Uganda, particularly LGBTQ+ individuals, by leveraging the power of faith. Uganda is a deeply religious country, with over 95% of the population affiliated with a faith tradition, according to the 2024 population census. Despite this, LGBTQ+ people continue to face widespread discrimination, often justified through religious rhetoric.

UCAA-UG seeks to address this by challenging faith-based stigma and promoting inclusive spiritual leadership. Our programs include dialogue sessions with faith leaders on issues related to same-sex relationships, supporting families in reconciling with their LGBTQ+ members, helping LGBTQ+ individuals reconcile their faith and sexuality, awareness campaigns, and providing socio-economic support for LGBTQ+ people who are displaced due to their identity.

Support mental health and safety of LGBTQ+ youth in Uganda.

Providing urgent care: shelter, food, and mental health support for 50 young LGBTQ+ Ugandans facing violence and homelessness. In Uganda, being young, LGBTQ+, and visible is dangerous especially now. With the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 (AHA) in full force and national elections on the horizon, LGBTQ+ youth are once again being scapegoated to score political points. The result? A heartbreaking surge in family rejection, school expulsions, evictions, arrests, and suicide attempts. We are launching an emergency support program for 50 LGBTQ+ young adults (ages 13–25) in Uganda who have lost everything home, safety, community just for being who they are. What your donation supports: ·      Emergency shelter: Safe housing for those made homeless ·      Food and basic supplies: Immediate relief for those with nothing ·      Mental health bootcamps: Safe spaces for healing and resilience-building ·      1-on 1 professional counseling: Every young person will have access to a licensed mental health provider. ·      Crisis response coordination: Transport, safety planning, and check-ins from trained community organizers.   Every dollar will go directly to restoring hope, dignity, and safety to these young people many of whom have nowhere else to turn. They are not statistics. They are artists, students, caretakers, dreamers. They deserve better than fear and isolation. Why now? Uganda’s elections are near. This is the time LGBTQ+ youth are most at risk of being targeted in the media, in schools, and on the streets. If we don’t act now, we risk losing more lives to depression, violence, and despair.  Let’s send a powerful message: They are not alone. With gratitude, UCAA Team.
