The TM23 Foundation was established in 2018 to honor the memory of 3rd generation Angeleno, Tommy Mark, who unexpectedly passed away that year at the age of 12. Tommy was a huge spirit who sought out and connected with people of all ages, genders, races and cultures, and he united them through sports and his infectious spirit of play. The TM23 Foundation is dedicated to continuing Tommy’s impact through meaningful projects that bring people together and strengthen communities.
We achieve this, in part, by creating desperately needed public athletic fields in Los Angeles where children can play. We call each of them, “Tommy’s Field,” and so far there are two of them, with a third now in the works. For our first Tommy’s Field at Westwood Recreation Center we raised $1.2 million and gifted the funds to the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, which manages and maintains the field. We raised another $1.4 million to gift our second Tommy’s Field at a very special school called Vista del Mar, which not only serves as a high school to some of our city’s most challenged children, but also provides mental health services, foster and adoption services, and other essential family services across the city. Tommy’s Fields currently serve at least 130,000 children combined every year. To ensure that Tommy’s Fields are maintained at the highest standards, we activate our fields every year with special soccer tournaments that unite children from across the city and raise funds to refurbish each field in perpetuity, as needed.
