Reflecting on the spirit of the Arabic word مَكَان makān, meaning “a place, a location, a station, a situation, a position, habitation, dwelling, an abode, a house, a home, a room”, Makaan Arts offers a communal hub for Bay Area and visiting CWANA artists. It is a place for creative exchange, for artists to reflect, experiment, collaborate and share their works with the Bay Area arts community.

Makaan provides project-based residencies with the space and production tools needed for development and fabrication. Centering artists from the CWANA region, from Central and West Asia to North Africa.  it aims to create a much needed space for dialog between artists of the region and its diaspora with centuries-old interwoven connections amongst the diverse people of the region.
