The Surfus Foundation

The Surfus Foundation is an LGBTQ+ foundation in Grand Rapids, MI focused on policy and research to advance and support the LGBTQ+ communities of West Michigan and beyond. Previously known as The Council for Human Rights, The Surfus Foundation is named after our Founder and President Dr. Chris Surfus. Past successes include education and advocacy efforts that led to Holland, MI adopting an LGBTQ-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance, which then led to similar protections in Grandville, MI. Additionally, The Surfus Foundation has assisted corporations in becoming more inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community, advocated for anti-bullying policies, and worked to improve the quality of life of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
