Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) was founded in 1986 as Korea’s first research-oriented university, with the mission of advancing science and engineering research, educating talented students, and contributing to the nation and humanity. Since its establishment, POSTECH has pursued excellence in education, research, and industry-academia collaboration, cultivating students with integrity, creativity, and a pioneering spirit.
POSTECH’s core activities include undergraduate and graduate education in science and engineering, world-class basic and applied research, technology transfer, entrepreneurship support, and collaboration with leading universities, research institutions, and industry partners. The university has built a strong research ecosystem through affiliated research institutes, global partnerships, and interdisciplinary programs that address scientific, technological, and societal challenges.
POSTECH is currently advancing its long-term vision, POSTECH 2.0, to become a global value-creating university leading a sustainable future. Its strategic priorities include education that transcends disciplinary boundaries, research excellence, next-generation industry collaboration, sustainable management, and future-ready campus infrastructure. POSTECH is also pursuing an AI-Native University initiative to integrate AI across education, research, administration, and institutional innovation.
Through support from donors, including alumni and friends in the United States, POSTECH seeks to expand scholarships, student support, internationalization programs, research and innovation initiatives, and strategic projects that will help educate future global leaders and create lasting public value.
