The Marketplace: School Supply Depot

The School Supply Depot is part of New Hope’s Marketplace: a seasonal, dignity-centered shopping experience for families in our community. This year we are striving to serve at least 250 students. With over 1,800 school-aged children in Prospect Park and Haledon, and more than half of them facing economic hardship, the need is real. And New Hope is stepping into the gap. $25–$45 Equip a student Covers a full set of school supplies tailored to a child’s grade — from crayons to calculators. $100 Equip 2–3 students Covers full supplies for multiple children across different grade levels. $250 Stock a shelf Provides a full supply category (e.g., pencils and pens or notebooks) for the pop-up store. $500 Sponsor a classroom Equips 10+ students with the tools they need to start the year strong. $1,000 Empower a neighborhood Expands the reach of the School Supply Depot to serve more families with dignity and choice. Rather than receiving handouts, parents are invited to shop for backpacks and school supplies at dramatically reduced prices — empowering them to choose what’s best for their children while preserving pride and agency. Your gift helps us stock the shelves and expand the reach of this pop-up store, ensuring more kids start school confident, prepared, and proud.

Invest in Youth. Grow a Leader. Change a Community.

Alejandro Barrios grew up in our community. He joined New Hope’s Teen Leaders program in high school, was elected group president his senior year, and is now a college senior studying cybersecurity. Today, he’s also New Hope’s very first Leader Launch Intern —a paid, mentored role designed to give young adults from our community the experience, skills, and support they need to step confidently into their careers. Through Leader Launch, Alejandro is building real-world tools—like a custom checkout system for our School Supply Depot and Christmas Marketplace and a digital platform to help run our programs. He’ll leave with a professional portfolio, a stronger network, and a clearer path into his future. Our goal is to raise $7,500 to fully fund Alejandro’s internship. Your gift directly supports his stipend, mentorship, and the infrastructure that makes this kind of opportunity possible. This isn’t just job training. It’s a launchpad. Give today to help us launch local leaders like Alejandro into a future filled with purpose and impact. Any funds raised beyond the needs of Leader Launch will be used to support New Hope’s ongoing compassion ministries throughout the year.
