The National Upcycled Computing Collective, Inc. (NUCC) breathes new life into thrown-out computing equipment. We empower future cybersecurity professionals to build, tinker, hack, and experiment through the sustainable reuse of computing hardware.
We are based in Fullerton, CA, and currently support student-run cybersecurity clubs across California through mentoring or loaned hardware, including:
- Cyber@UCI (UC Irvine)
- Offensive Security Society (CSU Fullerton)
- Cyber@UCR (UC Riverside)
- Claw Command (CSU Los Angeles)
- Slug Security (UC Santa Cruz)
- Cyber Security Club at UC Davis (UC Davis)
- CSULB Cybersecurity Club (CSU Long Beach)
- Cyber and Intelligence Security Organization (CSU San Bernardino)
- Layer 8 (CSU Northridge)
We also provide hardware loans and donations nationwide on a case-by-case basis. NUCC began as an operation to support distributed computing research projects that required significant computing power (e.g., Folding@home, Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search) and eventually used upcycled computing equipment to support hands-on cybersecurity education through the deployment of upcycled cyber ranges. NUCC-sourced equipment has also been used to support different creative projects featured at DEF CON, such as the S.O.D.A. (Shell On Demand Appliance) Machine.
