Matlhogonolo Community Outreach Centre (MCOC) is a transformative force in South Africa’s township communities, delivering integrated education, mental health, digital skills, and youth development programs. We were founded in 2017 in response to the urgent need to address educational inequities and social exclusion in underserved townships. Our mission is to ensure that every child and young person, regardless of their background, has access to quality education, psychosocial support, and future-ready skills.

Our work is deeply rooted in the realities of township life. We operate in communities where resources are scarce, where access to digital tools and mental health support is limited, and where young people often face multiple barriers. Our programs meet learners where they are, we run literacy and numeracy sessions in public spaces, schools, and Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD), offer digital training in community libraries, and deliver mental health workshops in schools. By embedding ourselves in daily life, we build trust, visibility, and long-term engagement.

Our impact is measurable, since inception, we have benefited over 5,000 learners. We have supported them in improving literacy scores, and we have placed over 300 young people in accredited tech skills opportunities through strategic partnerships. These placements have enabled them to secure employment, giving them a pathway to financial stability and growth. Beyond these numbers, we see each learner as a story of resilience and possibility.

As we look ahead, MCOC plans to deepen its impact by scaling programs to more townships, introducing mentorship pathways, and strengthening partnerships with tech, education, and mental health organizations. Our vision is a future where every township is a center of opportunity, where young people thrive, and where dignity, confidence, and hope are the norm.

We invite funders to join us in this mission. With your support, we will scale these programs, deepen their impact, and create lasting change for South Africa’s youth. Together, we build a brighter, more equitable future, one learner, one community at a time.

Every Child Deserves to Learn,Every Youth Deserves to Thrive

Every child deserves the ability to read, every young person deserves hope, and every community member deserves the opportunity to thrive. At Matlhogonolo Community Outreach Centre , we believe that education, mental wellness, and digital inclusion are the foundations of a stronger and more prosperous community. Many of the children, youth, and families we serve face significant challenges, including limited access to quality educational support, unemployment and mental health barriers. Without intervention, these challenges can prevent individuals from reaching their full potential. We see firsthand how a child who struggles to read falls behind in school and how untreated mental health challenges can affect families and entire communities. Our Centre exists to change that story. Through literacy programs, mental health support, digital skills training, and youth development initiatives, we create pathways to opportunity, confidence, and long-term success. Every day, we witness lives transformed when someone gains the skills to secure employment, improves their academic performance, or finds the support they need to overcome personal challenges. To expand our impact, we are seeking support to purchase 40 tablets for our Digital Skills Program, which serves more than 200 learners . Access to technology is essential in today's world, yet many of our learners do not have the opportunity to develop basic computer and digital literacy skills. These tablets will provide hands-on learning opportunities, helping young people gain the digital competencies needed for education, employment, and lifelong success. We also need to purchase books, educational resources, and stationery for children participating in our literacy and after-school programs. These resources will help learners improve their reading, writing, and academic performance while fostering a lifelong love of learning. Who Will Benefit? Your contribution will directly benefit: Children and learners who need literacy support to improve reading, writing, and academic achievement. More than 200 learners who will benefit from access to tablets and digital skills training. The wider community , which benefits from a more educated, skilled, and resilient population. Every donation brings us closer to creating a future where every learner has access to the tools, knowledge, and support they need to succeed. Support Matlhogonolo Community Outreach Centre today and help us purchase 40 tablets, provide books and stationery, and empower futures through literacy, mental health, digital skills, and youth development.
