Imagine not having the words to tell your mom you love her, ask for a snack, or say you're in pain. For many children with autism, cerebral palsy, apraxia, and other conditions that affect speech, that's daily life.
At Joyful Noise AAC, our mission is to empower Oklahoma children who have no, minimal, or unreliable speech by providing them with free access to AAC—short for augmentative and alternative communication—devices and ensuring their voices are heard. We are committed to supporting families and professionals through comprehensive training, fostering meaningful connections, and promoting inclusion, so every child can express themselves with confidence and joy.
Sarah Hunter founded Joyful Noise AAC in 2025 after years as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) watching Oklahoma kids go without a voice. This was not because a communication device didn't exist, but because a family couldn't afford one, didn't know where to start, or got stuck fighting insurance. We close that gap. Every child we serve receives a fully configured AAC device at no cost, plus hands-on training and follow-up. To keep costs low, we typically use donated, refurbished iPads. We serve children statewide, with special emphasis on rural Oklahoma, where SLPs and funding are hardest to find.
We are inspired by our clients like Vanya, a 16 year old who had never had a reliable way to communicate. We placed an AAC device in his hands and support around him, and now for the first time in his life he can tell people what he is thinking! What matters to him. What he wants. He can be known. 16 years is too long to wait for a voice! This is what Joyful Noise AAC exists to change.
