The Henry Martin Foundation is a U.S.-registered nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainable socioeconomic development by empowering underserved communities through access to essential services, economic opportunity, education and  health.

The Foundation has partnered with communities in Kenya to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations. One of its flagship initiatives has been increasing access to clean and safe water by drilling community boreholes in underserved areas. In regions such as Homa Bay County, where many families face water scarcity, access to clean water is transformative—it improves health, enhances livelihoods, supports agriculture, keeps children in school, and enables women and girls to spend less time collecting water and more time pursuing education and economic opportunities.

Today, the Foundation is expanding its impact through a strategic partnership with the International Centre for Access to Justice (ICAJ) in Western Kenya. Together, we are implementing programs that empower widows through sustainable livelihood projects, entrepreneurship support, financial literacy, and income-generating initiatives that foster long-term economic independence. The partnership also provides free legal aid and legal empowerment services, ensuring that widows can protect their rights, resolve disputes, and access justice.

The Foundation is equally committed to investing in young people by promoting civic education, leadership development, and active citizenship. Through mentorship, training, and community engagement, we seek to equip youth with the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible leaders and agents of positive change.

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by elderly men who have lost their spouses, the Foundation also supports widowers through business development initiatives, entrepreneurship training, and community support programs designed to restore dignity, promote self-reliance, and improve their quality of life.

At the Henry Martin Foundation, we believe that lasting change is achieved by empowering people with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities they need to build resilient communities. Through partnerships, innovation, and compassion, we remain committed to creating a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. We ensure that every cent we receive goes towards lasting and sustainable impact in the lives of those who need it most.

Justice, Dignity & New Beginnings for Widows in Rural Kenya

Every widow deserves justice. Every child deserves a home. Imagine losing your husband—and then, within days, losing everything else due to cultural and patriachial biases. Across rural Kenya, countless widows are forced from their matrimonial homes after the death of their husbands. They are stripped of their land, homes, livestock, and possessions by relatives, often in violation of the law. Many flee with nothing but the clothes on their backs and their children by their side. Without legal support, they have little chance of reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. Without an income, they struggle to feed their families, keep their children in school, or rebuild their lives. Too often, these women become trapped in a cycle of poverty, exploitation, and hopelessness. At the Henry Martin Foundation , we help them understand their legal rights, provide free legal advice and services and ensure they can meaningfully provide for their children. Our goal is to restore not only their property and inheritance rights but also their dignity and confidence. We equip widows with practical business and financial skills, provide seed capital and agricultural inputs to start sustainable livelihoods, support farming initiatives that improve household food security and income, and help women form table banking and savings groups so they can access credit, invest in small businesses, and build long-term financial resilience. Our approach transforms lives. A widow who secures her land can farm it. A mother with a small business can keep her children in school. A woman who joins a savings group gains not only financial security but also a network of encouragement and hope. Your generosity can help turn despair into opportunity. Your support can help provide: Free legal advice and rights awareness for vulnerable widows. Legal representation in inheritance, land, and property disputes. Business and entrepreneurship training. Seed capital for small businesses and income-generating activities. Farm inputs and produce to strengthen food security and household income. Financial literacy training and support for table banking and savings groups. Ongoing mentorship as women rebuild independent and sustainable lives. When you support this campaign, you are doing more than funding legal services or economic programmes—you are helping mothers reclaim their homes, protect their children's future, restore their dignity, and build lasting independence. Together, we can ensure that no widow is left to face injustice alone. Help us replace fear with hope, injustice with justice, and poverty with opportunity. Stand with a widow today. Restore a family. Change a future.
