Join us to protect, restore and reimagine the Château de Belœil for future generations!
Preserving the legacy of Belœil — and imagining its future
The ASBL Fonds Château de Belœil is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration, maintenance and activation of one of Belgium’s most iconic historic estates: the Château de Belœil, its French-style gardens, its library, and all related heritage assets.
Located in the heart of Europe, Belœil has been the home of the Princes de Ligne since the 14th century. Once a medieval fortress, it has evolved over centuries into a princely residence of rare harmony and elegance. The estate, listed as Patrimoine Exceptionnel of Wallonia, remains privately owned — yet open to the public for visits, exhibitions and events.
Far from being static, Belœil is a living estate. Its richly furnished rooms, 20,000-volume library and 17th-century gardens continue to tell the story of European art, thought and diplomacy.
Yet preserving this legacy is a constant challenge: renovation needs, operating costs and the impact of global crises require resilient and visionary support. With no recurring public funding, Belœil relies on private and philanthropic generosity to sustain its mission.
Our mission: safeguard, share and reimagine
At the ASBL Fonds Château de Belœil, we aim to:
- Restore and maintain the built and natural heritage of the estate;
- Share it with the public through exhibitions, guided visits and cultural programming;
- Support research through access to our historic library and collections;
- Open it to new uses, from education to film production;
- And prepare it for the next generations, through bold ideas and international collaboration.
We believe that preserving heritage is not about freezing it in time, but keeping it alive, relevant and open to the world.
How you can help
We welcome support from foundations, individuals and companies who share our belief in cultural stewardship, heritage education and long-term thinking.
Your contribution will directly support:
- Urgent restoration campaigns (roofing, façades, interiors…),
- The digitization of the library and educational outreach,
- The sustainable reopening of unused buildings within the estate,
- And the development of new cultural and heritage-led initiatives.
Together, we can ensure that Belœil continues to inspire — for centuries to come.
