Deaf Empowerment Society of Kenya (DESK) is a registered non-governmental, non-partisan, and not-for-profit organization for and of Deaf persons in Kenya. DESK was founded in 2013 and became fully operational in 2015 with its head office in Embu County, Kenya. DESK has an overarching goal of being a leading thought-leader in all matters affecting the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Kenya and all over the world as it seeks to ensure equal opportunities in all walks of life for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons residing in Embu County and throughout Kenya. DESK was majorly established due to discrimination and prejudice against Deaf persons, in addition to the fact that there was no organization or program specifically targeting the needs of those persons. DESK established itself with the goal of equally supporting Deaf and hard of hearing people in Embu County and throughout Kenya to improve their standard of living. In pursuit of this goal, DESK has formed strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations, donors, experts, practitioners, and other key stakeholders. This support is in terms of human rights advocacy, health, education, and capacity building, and political, social, and economic empowerment.
