DC SCORES’ mission is to empower youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world. DC SCORES programs provide inclusive spaces for children to explore their passions, identities, and lived experiences in an environment that embraces diversity and accessibility. DC SCORES strives to be an anti-racist organization committed to taking an intersectional approach to our work that values and supports all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds or identities.

DC SCORES operates in historically marginalized communities across D.C. and works closely with school staff, families, and community members to provide its comprehensive after-school programs. After a season of the program, 95% of poet-athletes say attending DC SCORES has made them care more about their school, and 98% report that they feel more confident in themselves.

DC SCORES relies on the generosity of a variety of supporters, from individual donors and volunteers to large corporate sponsors. The organization’s work is sustained by dedicated, paid coaches and teachers, most of whom work in the schools where they coach. DC SCORES is a community partner of D.C. United, the Washington Spirit, District Sports, and Busboys and Poets.

Our vision is to reach every child in the District who needs us. We promise to transform D.C. into a Poet-Athlete City by reaching every Title 1 middle and elementary school by 2030 and raising a new generation of healthy, resilient, and empowered poet-athletes.
